Advantages: Alot of jobs Disadvantages: Slow server
Fish4jobs is one of the most popular online recruitment sites around at the moment. With over 44,500 jobs currently available through this website it certainly does not lack content. I have used fish4jobs for over 5 months now in the hope to find a good graduate IT job in the Yorkshire region, here are my opinions on what I have found. GENERAL Fish4Jobs is part of the Fish4 family, which includes fish4cars and fish4homes. The site is a single frame ... ...design looks really slick, recently it has been redesigned and this is a great improvement. The colour scheme is the same across the sight (light blue right through to dark blue with white background). The site has difficulties with Linux default browser but it works find with IE5 and Navigator. The amount of advertising is worrying though. Apart from the standard banner at the top of each page, they have adverts under the left menu system and also ...

Advantages: Lots of jobs Disadvantages: Incorrect job matches
I would like to start by just showing my opinion about online-recruitment, most of the online-recruitment websites are just lists of jobs, the better websites have a larger network of agencies so therefore a larger list of jobs. I was recently unemployed so I thought that I would take a look at the jobsites and see what they have to offer. I tend to find that I was looking through the same jobs across all the sites and applying through various emails. ... ...but I was looking for something special, not just a database of jobs. I would much rather prefer a service that makes me feel they are really interested in getting its users jobs that suit them, something that was a little more personal and wasn’t just a computer matching service. A lot of websites do have CV registration, however I felt that if they spent more time on finding new jobs and advertising them it would be a lot more beneficial ...

Advantages: Appears easy Disadvantages: Poor searhces and irrelevant jobs returned. Confusing help section
I have recently been between jobs and thought I would look at Fish4jobs after I saw an advert on the TV. I got to the site and was greeted by a simple to use job searcher - or was it? I thought as this was a serious thing, I should read all the items and check I knew what I was doing. When I read the description in the help though, I wasn't really helped at all. In fact, it was a total waste of time stating only the obvious. An example was in the ... ...you that 'this is where you should transcribe (why not put write?) the directory area into which you should prefer the location of your job to be held.' Thanks, I am more confused now than I was before I read the darn help. So, neglecting the help file I began to plough through using my own common sense, easy enough. I put in for a search for Customer Service jobs within 20 miles of Swindon. I got 34 jobs show up. Great I thought, until I found out ...

Advantages: Lots of national jobs. Disadvantages: VERY bad search engine and refinement process.
My mum just got sacked, so I thought I'd go on the Internet and find her a new one. She had just seen the advert for Fish4hobs on the TV and told me to go there first. So I clicked on the Secretarial, Ofiice & Support button and started a search. The screen looked quite good, it had lots of "Search tips" buttons down the side, which just explained the functioning of the boxes, which were pretty self-explanatory labled as "job title" and "location", ... ...language very well would need. Even then the search tips page wasn't very helpful, it just said the obvious pretty much.
The search engine was really bad. I did a search set at 20 miles around Newport, which showed up results in Central Woking, Newtown (in Tewkesbury). As I didn't want one there I further refined the search, and this threw up the result of a "Technical Support Engineer" in and around Ireland and Scotland, this wouldn't have been ...

Advantages: Variety: Recruiter profiles, psychometric tests and lots of jobs. Disadvantages: Takes a long time
After finding my new house on the fish4 Homes site, I thought that finding a job with the fish4 Jobs site would be equally successful. How wrong I was! To be fair, I think that the strengths and limitations that are largely dependant on what you want it to do. For those who have a clear idea of the sort of job they want, set up a few agents on Monster.com and you will be laughing, it is quicker and more thorough. If, like me, you are new to a location, ... ...of jobs in the area and the types of companies you should send your CV to, then this site is perfect.
For example, if you are looking for a job that has a clear title, i.e. Retail Manager or Software Engineer etc. then be prepared to sift through loads of jobs. The jobs are grouped into sets of 10 SUMMARIES and it takes AGES to get through the screens. In addition, the ‘DESCRIPTION’ on the summary comprises of the first few lines of ...

Advantages: rapid way to look for a job Disadvantages: non metered so anyone can advertise vague details like in my case
Fish4 sites have gained a lot of media publicity recently, with their new advertisement campaigns. However, I am wary of their fish4jobs site. Last October I was looking for a job. I wanted a job during the term and I wanted to try telesales. I did a search on the website. It is pretty specific, allowing you to choose the radius of the area from which you are searching and with keywords andconsitions of the employment, e.g. part-time permanent, full-time ... ...jobs had very little details provided with them. Excellent salary and bonus doesn;t provide a lot of detail when detail is exactly what you need. I thought to hell with it and rang about the job and went for an interview. It was in Sheffield, deep in the Wicker, in a building I first thought to be derelict. The job was sort of casual sort of you-were-never-here, working without a contract for £3 an hour and 17% commission on a sale. The office was ...

Advantages: okay if you don't bother looking in the paper for jobs Disadvantages: rehash of local ads
This really is a dreadful 'jobs' site. It's such a mess. I filled in the form carefully and made sure everything was correct. At first it just wouldn't accept it. Then it started telling me there was an error. Anyway, I eventually managed to get it to 'send' the form after about fifteen minutes. I sat back and waited for all those amazing job opportunties to arrive. You know, just like fishing. I casted what I thought was the correct bait upon the ... ...spratts but nothing capable of being hooked.
The first few emails I received were reasonable. They weren't quite what I wanted but they fitted my qualifications. Then I started to get jobs that were way beyond what I could do. There was one for a qualified civil engineer and I don't even know what that is (well not exactly!). Then a legal executive, teaching job, baker. The list was ridiculous. These jobs bore no relation to what I put on my CV. ...

Advantages: Many jobs Disadvantages: Not extremely specialist
I am a year 12 AS level student and my career possibilities are always at the forefront of my mind. The internet contains hundreds of good quality job pages in the UK but I have always found fish4jobs to be the leader at present in the quality of bringing you high quality jobs of your interest. With fish4jobs, you have several main options by which you can generally follow.

For any of you who ... ...for a job , I highly recommend this site because of its benefits in cutting down jobs into specialist areas. For example, if you are interested in Computers, you have a very wide set of jobs that you can look at. This may include Systems analysts, programmers, networkers, it specialists etc which you can then cut down into jobs by location.
Jobs by location is another great feature to this site which is why I find it useful. Say if you are looking ...

Advantages: Easy to use, comprehensive Disadvantages: Slow, heavily advertised
I have been looking for a work placement for my university course and I had seen Fish4Jobs advertised heavily. I went to the site and found it more like an advertising site. They seem more interested in selling stuff for their sponsors than finding a job. The search facility is reasonably good but could be faster. This is a problem I have experienced with many heavily advertised sites in that the page takes so long load all the ads.
Apart from the ...

Advantages: You can narrow your search down a lot Disadvantages: Often get the same results over and over again
I found this site useful, but not as good as other internet recruitment sites. Fish4me found me very local jobs, which was good, I was searching for web designer jobs or computer engineering etc, each day when I did a search I got the same jobs thrown at me, which got a bit tedious, as on other sites, they were being updated everyday. I signed up for fish4me, not wanting to go to the site each day to enter all the same information in. I put in the ... ...e-mail with job listings in, great. The job listings themselves weren’t all that easy to read, it would have been better if they had offered a web link in the e-mail so I could view the positions clearly. I also got the same jobs e-mailed to me every day for at least 2 weeks, so I haven’t used them since. The other thing about fish4me, is that they hardly ever list the wage that you will be getting with the job, and often doesn’t list where the job ...

Advantages: E-Mail service is outstanding - good localisation Disadvantages: Bit hard to navigate
I went to Fish4Jobs to search for local vacancies in my area. Most job search engines and the like are too much like hard work to filter through; offering jobs that are nothing like what you are looking for and miles away from your home!
However Fish4Jobs displayed only the matches that met my criteria well and I was impressed with the hit rate!
What makes this web service shine, for me, is the e-mail service, allowing you to refine your search ... ...are looking for. Then you can e-mail them with the criteria and Fish will report to you every Monday & Friday with jobs that are new in for that week.
I found that Fish reported jobs on the Monday that were not in my local paper until the end of the week!. Fish also sent a lot of hits for my criteria which is not often the case with online recruitment services!!!
In short - worth a look!
Can't rate the support as I never used them. ...

Fish4Jobs is just one third of a major British website - they also do Fish4Cars and Fish4Homes. They have those really annoying adverts with people in fish costumes searching for semis in one town and porsches in another. Contrary to the advert, they seem to be quite good. Advantages: Good theory Disadvantages: Crap in practice (for me, at least)
I've read several opinions on this service, most of which have said they don't rate it, and I thought I'd just add my ywo pennorth to the debate.
In theoretical terms, sites like this are a pretty dandy idea. You fill in a questionnaire about yourself, your career history and your specific wants and they send you a list of any jobs which are a good match for your criteria. Wonderful, you might think, that's exactly what I need.
In practice, however, ... ...I signed up was a load of very tenuously connected jobs which were of absolutely no interest whatsoever to me. I would have had to take a pay cut of about ten grand, be moving about 75 miles away and going to an industry in which I had no experience. Sounds ideal to me!
I'm not sure what the problem is becaise they must have some sort of database of matches and they should be able to set something up which does match appropriate job requirements ...

Advantages: Lots and lots of jobs Disadvantages: Not information I request
On several occasions I have used fish4jobs to search for my ideal new career. Great idea I thought at first, but the further I got into the search, the more useless the information I was getting. When searching in my current career (leisure), absolutely nothing comes up, so I thought with my new qualifications and experience in IT, I would give that a go with a search. Hundreds of positions came up when I specified permanent / Manchester / IT. Unfortunately, ... ...and after that, I don't know because I had lost faith in this jobs search engine. Another day, I decided to try again. Yet again, I was faced with positions in London, and a couple elsewhere. What would happen if I searched London? Would I get Manchester? No, exactly the same jobs appear in London. Fish4jobs is advertised in all the local papers and on billboards, but it doesn't seem to offer what it promises. I am still looking for a position around ...

It has been necessary for me recently to look for a new job.
At the grand old age of 56 years!!!!!!!!!!there seemed, initially,to be a great lack of opportunities for me.
I registered with some 25 various agencies sending each a copy of my C.V. and a covering letter indicating the type of position I am looking for.
The majority of agencies replied in letter form stating that they had no suitable current vacancies that they were handling and they ... ...was just one agency who took an entirely different approach-- i.e. they telephoned me and we had an interesting conversation and I then made an appointment to go to their office in Enfield for an assessment.
This went successfully and on the strength of this I got an interview with a major company and it looks as if there is a distinct possibility of a job offer for early 2001!!!!!!!!
THE AGENCY IS A.T.A. Recruitment.
Very professional. ...
