Advantages: Make Friends, Easy to Download. Disadvantages: Addiction and Idiots!
Freeserve are and have always been my ISP. On the whole Freeserve/Wanadoo is a very informative easy to use server. My Review concentrates on the Chatroom as that is what I have most experience in. I first used the chatroom's in the year 2000.
Getting to Freeserve/Wanadoo Chat:
When you log onto the Freeserve/Wanadoo home page you are met with a huge quantity of options. First go to the left hand column and select 'chat and forums' then go again ... ...then met with several options on this page. These are to do with what age group or peer group you'd like to converse with. Select say for example '40 somethings'. This takes you directly to the log in page, for the first time ever you'll have to register a nickname and your email address this enables Freeserve/Wanadoo to send you a password.Once equipped with these you can log in straight away. If you have no Java configurations on your pc this is ...

Freeserve chat?? Well if that's "chat" I must have the wrong dictionary! The way I perceice chat to be would be along the lines of a continued exchange of sentences to get a point across. *NOT* a continued row of abuse, name calling, swearing, flirting (big style!), yet more abuse, oh and don't forget a few "private messages" with, dare I say it, "frank" note's wanting "cyber sex" from 50 year old blokes!! If that sounds like its up your street then ... ...I don't want to put freeserve down as a whole. If you're a parent reading this with younger teen's that use the internet, then I really wouldn't let them use freeserve chat. (She say's after years of using it!!) Although I used chat rooms sensibly, I never met up with anyone, nor gave phone numbers out etc. although the chances for me to have done were readily there. There were, and probably still are, some sick people using this chat. (As with all ...

After all, Freeserve have not bothered providing any decent chat rooms.
Freeserve had recently implemented changes into the chat system which theoretically improve the service no end. Unfortunately for them, the changes will make no difference to the majority of idiots that frequent the rooms. Previously when logging into Freeserve Chat you would give yourself a nickname. You would then enter a room right away. This means that there is no garuntee ... ...time you went in. And to make matters worse the choice of room was made, but limited to 30 members. After logging out and trying to rejoin, well the prospect of getting back into the same room within your selection was minimal. However, in the interests of 'Child protection' the old rooms have gone. The new rooms require you to register with a Screename and an email address. This measn you now have a fixed alias to use. And rooms are unlimited for ...

Advantages: Good design and images can be used Disadvantages: flooding and swearing by people in the site
Freeserve chat looks good on first appearances it has many and various chat communities so you can speak to people of a similar age or people with the same interests. It even loads quite fast.
When you enter the chat site you have a list on the right of users and the chat down the left. You are highlighted in red so you can follow private messages to yourself and find yourself on the list. The private messaging is a good option where a new box opens ... ...while to go away.
There are no sensors in the site so anyone can type anything they like and there is very little booting for bad behaviour.
For a chat site no many people actually seem to want to chat. The site cannot be blamed for this but everyone sits around flooding the page with obsenaties and pictures.
The pictures are quite cool icons and images can be placed amongst the text but this is often used to flood the site.
While I was there ...

Freeserve chat??? If that's what you call insulting, swearing and just plain boring, then freeserve chat is the place for you! I don't want to put freeserve down because it's the users not them and after actually using their isp for a while we found them ok. But freeserve like other chat rooms is not one i could recommend you or young teens to visit. After using it a few times you realise that most chatters? know eachother by now anyway so you most ... ...a while to load. If you want to try it out and form your own opinion well that's your choice but i'll warn you. I wouldn't expect a descent chat from anyone and maybe it would be more interesting if it was worldwide. As at the moment you can only speak to people in the UK and Ireland. ...

Advantages: Lots of rooms to choose from Disadvantages: Can have occasional technical problems
I have been using freeserve chat now for quite some time and find it a great place to meet people from a whole range of various chat rooms from 20 something to webmasters there has to be a room to suit you so you can chit chat, or mix and match your friends or On-line lurrvers! The only thing I do find annoying about freeserve chat is the fact that occasionally you keep getting some people who keep flooding the network, however freeserve have a facility ... ...so it isn't a big problem. The only other problem that I have found is sometimes if there site isn't working properly you can get senario's like you can't see all the people in the room, or your can't send a personal message to someone. However saying this I still enjot the service, adn you can also enrole in the 3D talk area, where you can communicate to each other in a visual cyberspace environment. ...
Advantages: No software download, easy to use Disadvantages: Popularity causes slow server and server crashes occasionally
Freeserve chat pages. Both easy and fun to use for the new chat user, yet frustrating when experiencing the all too frequent server crashes. One of the brightest, and most intuitive to use, and it is its popularity that causes those server problems. Too many people using it at the same time and causing a system overload on the servers. Is it worth it? The answer must be a definite yes! It is easy to use, free, and requires no software download. It ...
Advantages: many room to go in Disadvantages: no personal profiles
freeserve chat is a great place to meet others, to be honest its not the best chat room i've been in but it's not the worst, the goods things about it is there are a wide range of room which allows people to go to the room they like and talk about the topic of the room. this chat room isnt just for teens either, it's for older people too. i would say that the bad thing about this chat room is that people done have profiles so u cant find out about ... ...talking on freeserve safer aswell, but apart from that it's a good chat room, it also allows u too insert symbols into wot ur saying and pictures of things too, also another good thing about freeserve is that anyone caught swearing is kick out which is very good! all in all i think freeserve chat is a worth while chat room to vist! ...

Advantages: Easy to use, mostly friendly chatters, good for beginners Disadvantages: System crashes and mindless idiots
I have been using Freeserve Chat for the last month or so, because this is one of the only chat rooms I can access from work becuase I am behind a firewall. During the day you can meet loads of people who, on the whole, are very friendly. I dont seem to get many problems with the system crashing although it is very slow. At night I use a direct system at home. This is where all the problems are. You get over 2000 users on the chat at any one time. ... ...is the acceptable norm. Freeserve blanks out the swear words but that can be annoying if you write "got it" because the system thinks you are writing "t it" and blanks it out. The idiots get around that by using foreign chatacters, so they still swear. Apart from the mindless few and the all too frequent crashes, Freeserve is friendly and easy to use and I have made many new friends. If you are new to chat, this is the one to try, if you can put ...

Advantages: its different !! Disadvantages: heavy on memory
I've used Freeserve Worlds 3d chat for about 9 months on and off. Yes it did have a tendancy to produce alarming windows error messages, but they recently did a bit of an upgrade and since then everything seems to be just fine. The basic download doesn't take too long and as you start to wander around the planet kind of place, it prompts you to download new scenes / rooms as you wish. Chatters on worlds are generally quite polite, USA types typically ... ...South Africa, Canada, some Europeans and a bit of SE Asia. The main advantage of Worlds is that its more personal than the usual chat rooms, since you can chat in the main box or in a private one to one (you can have as many one to ones going at the same time as you want. The main downside is the appalling background music in some of the rooms...although you can switch that of if you want. Its well worth a try I reckon, for something a bit different ...

Advantages: Can be entertaining sometimes Disadvantages: Lots of nutters and irritating people
Freeserve chat, like all of these types of service, is very much a mixed community ranging from relatively sane people to complete misfits.
First using the service in June 2000 the layout has changed but without any real difference to quality of user or interface.
Depending on the time of day that you log onto Freeserve chat, very much determines the people you will meet. Generally I found it to be most entertaining in the early hours of the morning ... ...plenty of idiots, but it's easier to find genuine people who like to chat, due to the lower number of users.
There are users who seem to spend their whole time starting arguments or flooding with icons, but as long as you ignore them you could find it an enjoyable experience. There are rooms to suit everybody including age, sexual orientation, location, hobbies, etc. Having spent many hours (ranging into the hundreds!) I have made a few friends ...

Advantages: easy to use Disadvantages: unreliable, too much nastiness
I used to think Freeserve chat was okay but recently have found hellish problems with it. Over the last few weeks you have struggled to get on using some of the chat clients, they even made one of the chat clients available to just Netscape users for a couple of days. Once on, they had problems with timeouts when trying to change rooms or lookup users.
Once you do get onto chat, you do get a lot of swearing and flooding of messages by people. One ... ...next word as it. Freeserve interprets it as “tit” and therefore blocks it out. This makes it difficult to make out some of your conversations.
I also find Freeserve to be very slow on load time and, once in, you can experience quite a delay when sending messages to people. I must admit though, despite it’s problems, I’ve made some good friends on their, but you do find a lot of people on there to be interested in swearing or talking dirty. ...

Advantages: No swearing; visually great; upgrades and options a-plenty Disadvantages: Sometimes the graphics run slow
Freeserve has teamed up with Worlds.com to provide access to thier international 3D chat service. You have to download a 7 meg file but if you aren't on unmetered access this kind of thing probably isn't for you anyway.
Once downloaded you can go straight on in and choose from a range of simple avatars and cruise a selection of rooms for new friends. There are a number of ways to upgrade your experience, including testing betas or (I am told) using ... ...have never tested the profanity filters which it apparently has, but then I have never seen any bad language either.
All in all it struck me as a fun, versatile system which avoided the pitfalls of regular chat rooms. No torrents of invective - just a lot of fun. Give it a try for free by surfing over to worlds.com ...

Advantages: Life like chat Disadvantages: Worlds take a while to download
...that I downloaded from the freeserve web site and I am glad that I did. It is great fun, you get to choose your own avatar (person) and roam around different parts of the world, there are also other worlds for you to download.
It is a new and fun way of being in a chat room as you can walk around and chat to people 'face to face'. There are specialised areas for chat such as different music rooms and various relationship rooms.
If you try it and ... ...then you are able to choose from a bigger choice of Avatars and customise them as in hair colour, skin colour, clothes etc. Your Avatar can also do actions when you are a VIP such as :- dance, wave, sneeze and flips to name a few.
I've found that one good idea is to arrange to 'meet' a specific group of friends there (I use it to talk to people who I know from a newsgroup) and you can chat to each other in real time. ...
