The site is reasonable to get around, although not utterly brilliant - there's lots of information that isn't there. They are also trying to act as a portal - like AOL do. The reason why I chose to use Freeserve as my ISP is because it was the first disc that I could lay my hands on. The service has always been quite good, the connection speeds were resonable and in general the e-mail service that I used was quite good.
For a long time I used hotmail.com, when I was at work or University as I wanted an e-mail account that I could access from anywhere. Advantages: free internet access Disadvantages: ignore customer service values
This was a wonderful company until I changed my banking details. I emailed them to let them know - they ignored me. I rang them - they sent me an email telling me to ring their customer service line again.
I was basically ignored until they tried to take a payment from my old bank account - which was obviously rejected. I then got cancellation orders via email, telling me to ring customer services. I did and got told that I would have to start the ... ...I had changed banks - but was told the same thing - oh and I had to log on before 8am else I wouldn't get the service I required!
I also found that I was sitting for long periods of time in front of the computer whilst all the lines were busy due to too many people logging on.
I gave up in the end - surely with 2 seperate means of communication they could have got this right - the rude emails I received furthered my belief that they are not interested ...

Advantages: Free. Solid. Disadvantages: Prone to being too busy
Freeserve was not the first free ISP. Freeserve was the first free ISP to make it big, it opened the flood gates that held the British public back from the Internet and for that we should thank it. Freeserve had two big advantages at the start;
1) The free Freeserve CD being handed out with every computer bought at a wide range of established computer retailers around the country.
2) The support and backing of a big company that eliminated the ... ...logged in.
Despite the backing from the parent company, Freeserve operates on a razor edge of a budget. It operates there very well but you can tell when things are starting to get scary. Even though people find it fashionable to slag off Freeserve, they still do a rather good job of giving you access to the web and mail for nothing. Remember - before this we had to pay through the nose for services (MSN anyone?).
Installation of the software can be via CD or manually if you already have an ISP.
This would be the best ISP/mail service for PC beginners, as each step of the way is dealt with at a suitable level of understanding.
... ...rates, but all of the info you need can be found at their FAQ section. The most complicated info that may be required is for uploading websites and again , the full details are there.
The FAQ also includes full details on how to set up multiple e-mail addresses for your domain.
All in all, the best for beginners and still one of the best ever! ...

Until recently I was a user of freeserve anytime, i was with them from 2000 when I first bought a pC. At first they were good and offered a reasonable service. But as time went on i found the service was getting considerably worse. The service is 13.99, going up to 14.99 i have been told (they are always putting the prices up), and for that you get unlimited internet access day or night. But do you? apparently if they feel that you are a perpetrator ... ...the small print), so maybe not so unlimited after all. I hated being cut off every two hours, can be annoying wheen you are in the middle of downloading, or when you are surfing. A lot of times i would find it vey hard to connect, and their home page seemed to down vey often. Also, pages load very slow. The same thing with getting emails, always down and sometimes it would take all day for me to be able to get my emails! Also their FTP server is ...

I am from the US, and service is number one because if you can't or won't provide customer service then someone else will. I joined freeserve through there one month free sign-up promotional disc. To me...one month free means ONE MONTH FREE. I popped in their disc and continued through the process. I followed all the steps to join the anytime account. This gave me access to the internet. I then signed up for broadband service through the only provider ... ...bill arrived I found I was billed 35.00 for the supposed one month free service. I called up freeserve where a snotty/rude kid named mike said that I had not signed up properly and that they had no record of my account, so freeserve ASSUMED that I wanted a pay as you go scheme. I have many an email address collected over the last few months, many of which I do not use at all, but fsmail.net I have recently started to use quite a bit. I find it very easy to use and if you go away on holiday or not going to be around for a couple of days you can set up an Auto Reply system with your own choice of words.
I als ofind their Customer Services very helpful although very expensive to phone at around 60 pence per minute, to compare ...
