    IMPORTANT UPDATE: The below reflects my personal experience with the site, some years ago. Due to financial difficulty, they cancelled the reward system whereby reviewers could earn free CDs (as described below). The site is still going, and reasonably successful, but it now seems only really worth band members joining to review each others' music.     *UPDATE* This site is no longer run by HMV and therefore you can only get cd's which are of the very urm.. amateurish sounding people who submit their work to this website. This is very disapointing as this site was promising. But I'm afraid it now has taken a slide down that slippery slope! This site is NOT your usual reward scheme, where you sign up to a load of websites (usually ones that while sober and in a sane frame of mind you would never think of signing up for) for a very meagre amount of money.     Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but sadly i have to tell you garageband is no more. You therefore don't need to read this article. Garageband is a site which lets you pretend you are a top music journo for NME or Melody Maker. You get the chance to listen to bands that are not signed up to a record label, and review their musical offerings. And as if this wasn't enough they will give you a $10 credit each month to buy CDs from the bands you like best. So how does it work?     And NO nothing to do with Napster, MP3s or anything of the sort this time - but REAL music, hard copies of CDs in your mail box for the minimum of effort. Well, ok you have to listen to songs by 20 new artists and leave a constructive review of what you have heard and the CDs you can claim are by artists on the site rather than big sellers and chart toppers but its still well worth checking out. This is the best place I have found showcasing new talent on the net so far and there quite a few of them.     For any music lover this is a cracking site and should be bookmarked now. What this site basically is is a site where unsigned bands can post their music to see what the general public think of it, the bands with the best reviews will then be signed to a record deal. When you first enter the site you are asked to create a user name and a password as is the norm on most sites nowadays. This is simple enough and then the fun really starts!     For a long time,the internet user who happened to like music and was in an international country,such as London, could not get involved with a program for a music fan.     Garbageband is a website which rewards you for your opinions on music, through free CDs. Earlier they used to reward you with points for rating songs which could be redeemed for cool stuff, but now they are giving away a CD of your choice from HMV for every 20 reviews you complete. It is great way of earning free CDs every month. You also choose the type of music you would like to rate from various genres. You can earn your free CD within 4 days as they allow you to complete only 5 reviews everyday towards the free CD. The website also has a great layout. ... more
