    GEMM (the Global Electronic Music Marketplace) is not a retailer (although it does handle some payments) but rather a directory containing the listings of thousands of second hand music sellers around the world -- over 11 million items are listed in total. Obviously delivery times and fill rates will vary greatly depending on the actual retailer, but GEMM does a good job of maintaining statistics to let you know how reliable your source is.     From a Seller's point of view, Gemm is the worst site I've sold on (out of five). So far I have had a thoroughly bad experience with it. The navigation is confusing, the whole site is laid out in tiny text with no graphics to speak of, and when I made my first sale they hauled me over the coals for invoicing the seller directly - the assistant's statement about it was: "Did you not pay attention at all to the text displayed when you signed up to become a seller on GEMM?"     Disadvantages Disadvantages VERY high frequency of fraud, buyers backed unconditionally, incviting/encouraging fraud

    Selling through GEMM made up about about 10% of our total sales, while GEMM supplied us with 90% of our problem customers. GEMM processed the orders, but withheld payment to us for 2 weeks. Frequently GEMM customers would complain about the orders they received, making demands over and beyond what they had paid, and often refusing to even return merchadise for refund. In 100% of such cases GEMM refunded the entire amount charged to the customer, who in most cases did not even return the merchandise. In other words, the buyer wins, no matter what.     Advantages Advantages gemm process payments, great customer service, large database of sellers

    I've been buying on gemm.com for more than ten years, just recently started listing records for sale on there. Gemm processes and guarantees payments. Since buyers have to go through the site to get refunds, gemm can keep better track of problem sellers and buyers. Their customer service has been a great help any time I've needed to email or call. For buyers their advanced search is a great way to find items by title, artist, record label, country of release, and you can even narrow down searches to show only items from sellers in specific countries, definitely a great feature for collectors ... more

    Buying records at gemm.com record website in 2011 - an update. The things I really like about GEMM are the amazing database and the unbelievably flexible search engine. You can type anything you know about your record and you'll find it. I look for both fairly common recordings and also very obscure ones and the search engines helped me find both types easily. I also appreciate the philosophy that they protect buyers and sellers and expect both to behave in responsible ways. And imagine a record dealer lost in the middle of nowhere anywhere in the world.
