Advantages: Free, Easy to Use, Easy to Instal, Reliable Disadvantages: None so far
Anyone who uses a PC will know how important it is to have reliable anti-virus software installed. However, not everyone realises that you can download a brilliant package "free" over the Internet from www.grisoft.com.
I stumbled across this site whilst reading a magazine article about PC viruses & decided to download it as my pre-installed anti-virus software was quite old & I wasn't sure how reliable it really was anymore. I must admit that I ... ...whether this new software would conflict with other programs on my PC, but now I know there was nothing to worry about!
AVG was so simple & quick to download and I have been running it on my system successfully for the past three months without any problems whatsoever! It is also very easy to use. The interface is brightly coloured & cheerful & not only does it provide a boot-up scanner each time you turn on your PC, but it can also check individual ...

I Have been on the internet since 1996 and worked in IT the same length of time, I have used many Anti Virus products but for the last three years on my home pc's I wouldn't use anything other than AVG.
Why Use....
Well apart from the obvious reasons of stopping virus infecting your PC, the reason I would choose AVG is it has out preformed Norton and other well know AV programs in lots of industry tests: it has been tested and independently certified ... ...on a regular basis for the functionality and for 100% detection rate. There are not many Free products that out strip brought ones still around.
How to get AVG
AVG can be downloaded from www.grisoft.com, once you have filled in a form you will be emailed a serial code to activate AVG, you will be asked for this during the install.

Advantages: Its free, loads of updates on viruses Disadvantages: None that I've come across
We've got a fairly old operating system at home (Windows 98se) and we needed an anti virus package that was up to the mark and wasn't going to let us down.
A friend suggested AVG a free anti virus software package that you download from the internet. Go to www.grisoft.com and follow the links to download the software directly to your PC.
It downloads in no time and the set up is very straightforward and easy.
Navigation around the package is also ... ...it to run an automatic virus sweep or just do a manual one. It will deep scan all drives and directories and when found it will alert you to the virus. After finding the virus it will then "quanrantine" it and "heal" your machine. We've had numerous "Trojans" downloaded from various rogue sites etc. and this software is absolutely brilliant at detecting and getting rid of them. It runs in the background by which you can tell in your taskbar near ...

Advantages: A Free version, Easy to Install and use Disadvantages: Auto Update not always reliable
I have been using AVG Anti-Virus from grisoft for a long time and in general it is definately one of the best going, however theres a few things that it does not do that well.
AVG has a built in resident scanner which is scanning your pc constantly, whether its the free or paid version you have this feature installed, the only problem with it, it does not scan your files on your pc fully when you download something.
The email scanner again built ... ...it scans all your incoming and outgoing email thats such a good feature, it also marks all scans emails so that you know while reading it that it has been scanned and clear of viruses.
If a virus is found it will tell you what you should do, whether you want to delete the file or quarantine the virus, its nearly always better to quarantine something in case it wasn't really a virus and then you can restore the file.
Also bear in mind it doesn't ...

Advantages: Free to use with regular updates Disadvantages: none
A friend of mine told me about AVG from Grisoft and as I was already using a package that I had bought a while ago and needed to pay for an upgrade, I thought I would give it a try.
Once I had uninstalled my old package and downloaded the AVG software and run it, I noticed that my system was not crashing as it used to - deep joy!
I set it up and away it went, quietly doing what it was supposed to do without popping up and annoying me every five ... ...up, just to let me know there may be some nasty stuff trying to implant itself on my pc. A quick press of the return key later and voila, no more nasties.
There are regular free downloadable update from the site which is accessed through AVGs easy to use and understand control panel.
I ceratinly feel safer with AVG than I did with my bought package and I am confident that nothing nasty is getting through the measures AVG have in place.
If you ...

Advantages: Free, works well, does what it says on the tin Disadvantages: New definitions not always available daily
I had a bundled version of Norton Internet Security 2005 with a PC motherboard that I bought, so when my new PC was up and running, I installed it. A day later, I uninstalled it again, sick and tired, not to mention suspicious of the repeated requests to allow parts of the program server rights via my firewall (ZoneAlarm), and the ongoing pop up boxes which kept asking me to configure this or change that. Antivirus software to my mind should be painless ... ...I went, and downloaded AVG. I haven't looked back since. The software installs easily, and largely configures itself. All I needed to do was set my update and scan frequencies, tell ZoneAlarm to permit AVG's update module to access the internet, and tell the software I was using Outlook as a mail client, whereby it went off and plugged itself into Outlook automatically. It has created a folder in Outlook called "AVG Virus Vault" into which all infected ...

Advantages: Works great. Doesn't put much of a load on your system. Nice Interface. IT'S FREE Disadvantages: None that I can think of.
I have used AVG for some time on my own computer, and have installed it on several of my friends' computers as well. The product has always done exactly what an anti-virus is supposed to do: stop viruses without crashing your system. It has already stopped several from infecting my system. The updates are quite frequent, even with the free version, and some of the extra features (like certifying outgoing mail and making a backup disk) are very useful.
... ...like the interface, which is quite colourful and easy to use. If I have one criticism, it is that the updates are sometimes sluggish. However, that is extremely nitpicky, considering the overall quality of this program and the fact that it's absolutely free.
I'm not quite sure why anybody would want to pay a lot of money for an anti-virus when AVG does just as good a job for free. It's too good of a deal to pass up. ...

if you go through freeloadzone.com to download AVG or Avista please be careful. We signed up in November and since then they have been debiting charges to our bank account without authorisation. There is no customer contact and i would place this in category of scam.
Please look at website reviews.when you enter their website address. ...

Spending a lot of time on the computer, surfing the net and going into chat rooms I thought I should use some kind of protection. I chose Norton, and was pleased I did. It is well worth the money, and can also save you from people out there who for some reason or other get a kick sending out a virus. It is easy to use, and several times I've found a warning come up that a certain attachment contains a virus. Also I wasn't aware that scanning through ...
