Disadvantages Disadvantages search could be improved

Nearly finished my first year in Uni now, studying Multi-Media Journalism at Bournemouth University, one of our assignments was to look at this website. I have re-read my review and edited it a bit due to my confusion with another website. I was tired when I posted the original review. So apologies! x The home page is aesthetically pleasing, with the layout displayed very simply. The latest, breaking news story is at the top of the listed articles. The main story of the day is to the right of this list, with a caption as the only text. The largely sized picture is used to catch the attention ... more

Advantages Advantages Superb range of content, free, excellent forums

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Some navigational problems

The Guardian newspaper’s own website, http://www.guardian.co.uk, boasts proudly that it is the “best daily newspaper on the world wide web”. Whilst I cannot claim to have visited the website of every newspaper in the world – and I doubt the editors of the site have either – I have to concur that it is superb website overall. Many newspaper sites offer little more than an online version of the newspaper with added search facilities. This in itself is extremely useful and a vital service to researchers and the general public alike. The Guardian site offers this facility via a simple search box ... more

Advantages Advantages Fairly easy to navigate

Disadvantages Disadvantages A badly maintained search engine

The Guardian website can be used for any number of purposes. There is news, reviews crosswords and discussion boards, to name but a few features. You can read The Guardian and The Observer. In 2003, Guardian Unlimited introduced an "advert free" version of the site which costs £20 per year. I don't use this version and as such, I often get "pop-up" adverts on my screen. It doesn't cause too much disruption, however. There are other services which used to be free but can now be subscribed to. These include "The Informer" which is a daily e-mail containing up to date news bulletins. This costs ... more

Advantages Advantages quality writing, good looking site, depth of information

Disadvantages Disadvantages a little slow perhaps, but not too bad.

The measure of the success of an Internet version of a paper product is not only making the same quality and depth of writing available, but using the Web's strengths to add something more. The Guardian's good-looking and easy to use site does this: all Guardian articles are easily reached, downloaded, emailed and printed. However it also has a number of huge additional sites; Film Unlimited, Football Unlimited and Work Unlimited, to name but a few, which include a wealth of other articles, features and fun all delivered in the same slick style and editorial quality as the main site. You can ... more

Advantages Advantages well designed easy to navigate and a full comprhensive list of links to other sites

Disadvantages Disadvantages none that I have found

The Guardians own web site is a really good site not just for getting the latest news but for its job hunting section and its financial pages. It is a well designed site that is very easy to navigate around. It is pretty fast as well. The links to other sites is also very good. I would recommend this site not just for reading the news bits but for all its other sections. I find that it is very informative and has helpt me in many ways especially the personal finance pages which are not just adverts they give good sound advice as well. Well worth logging on to! ... more

    Advantages Advantages Well written

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Heavily biased

I suppose if you are living in the comfort of Hampstead, the idea of having the tiny island we live on flooded with foreigners sounds good. Therefore I'm not surprised at the Guardian and its website championing the cause of illegal immigrants. (They are not, by definition, asylum seekers, as according to international law, an asylum seeker is obliged - and should be happy to - take residence in the first 'safe' country he enters.) Guardian.co.uk readers support illegal immigration, because it makes them feel good while enjoying their dinner parties in Hampstead and Golder's Green. After all ... more
