Orange and green should never be seen...

Advantagesgets items sold

Disadvantagesjunkies in your house, bad design, overpriced

"...I was ready to go. Gumtree.com is possibly the messiest website I know. Its layout makes me want to smash my head in with a brick. Thankfully this tends not to be necessary as long as you don’t look below the first navigation bar. All the important stuff (Post an ad, My Gumtree and Search) is at the top of the page. An endless stream of bumf is below it. Throw in the interesting green and orange colour scheme it really is a total headache of a site ..." Read review

Gumtree, nothing in life is free

AdvantagesFree advertising

DisadvantagesStinks of fraud

"This review is based on me ''trying'' to sell and ''trying'' to buy certain items on Gumtree. I write ''trying'' in inverted commas as that is the only way I can describe the relationship between myself and the adverts. I will talk you though what Gumtree is, how to sell and how to buy. If you have never heard of Gumtree or its use then I shall delve into a simple yet informative explanation. Here it goes.... ===What is Gumtree??=== It is a website ..." Read review

DisadvantagesDesign and Layout

"...email address of all of Gumtree.com - Please do not use this option to cancel from your daily alerts just go back in to subscribe and take out what ticks you do not want. ===Saved Ad's=== - Is just like My Ebay it saves all the ad's you have looked at and at the click of a button you have them all in front of you. ===Using the search engine=== For once a site that has a decent search engine, ok it's basic but it is fairly accurate with ..." Gumtree or... how I wasted plenty of hours on this website

Advantagesstill fees free! (for standard adverts)

DisadvantagesAny option costs money, plenty of time wasters, ads get automatically removed for no reason

"Gumtree is a website dedicated to free ads of certain areas of the globe. It is advertised as UK n°1 website for classified ads but it has branches also in other Worldwide locations (Australia, Poland, New Zeland, Asia and South Africa) plus European and North American partners, meaning other websites called differently but offering the same service. The website is divided into main areas of the UK and each main city in those areas have their own ..." Read review

From Jammy to Gummy?

Advantagesfree listings, easy to navigate

Disadvantagespotential for scammers and con artists, remember basic personal safety rules

"As I recently had a piece of very good fortune I found myself with a car to dispose of - a car which still has an MOT, and one which I fully intended to run myself for a couple of years yet so what to do? I'm tight fisted (sorry frugal as it should be known now) so I didnt want to go paying for listings on things like autotrader or the local paper, and I'm not a fan of ebay so for me at least ebay motors was out of the question. It didn't leave ..." Read review

Worth Sinking Your Tree Into?

AdvantagesNot too Java heavy, some customisation to be had with ad posting

DisadvantagesNeeds tighter moderation on regards to spam and scams

"Gumtree is a site for local community classifieds and which covers 60 cities across 6 countries. Whatever it is you might be looking for - whether it be a 5 string bass or NSA sex - then these are sorted into several sub-categories (under 'Flats & Houses', 'Business Services', 'Friends & Dating', 'Cars for Sale', 'Stuff for Sale', 'Community' and 'Jobs') for browsing through. The search engine allows for finding something specific fairly quickly, ..." Read review

BY GUM(TREE)..........good ,if you are careful.

AdvantagesFree & easy to use.

DisadvantagesDealing with total strangers.Care needed.

"I'm reviewing GUMTREE. I think most people will recognise the name, but in case you don't, it is an online selling/buying site. Think ebay ,but without bidding and with a wider range of things on offer. For example you can advertise for flatmates on there, rent out property ,advertise services, sell /buy animals. _________________________________________________ _ ****WHY I USED IT**** To sell items I no longer needed but knew someone would be happy ..." Scumtree

AdvantagesThe good and the...

DisadvantagesSCAMMERS

"I have to say that the first time that I decided to use Gumtree was around year ago, this was to launch my own hobby... Buying and selling mobiles while vigerously testing them to write up Ciao reviews... In a way then, I am very lucky, I am able to get hold of any phone I want... I review them and sell it on... In some case I broke even, made around £0.05 (due to Ciao) and actually made £80 on one phone.... In all honesty I thought it would be easy ..." Read review

General Online Ad Board

AdvantagesMany categories & ads, free ads, user-friendly

DisadvantagesSpam, Forum is poorly managed

"I first came across Gumtree when I was looking for a place to live in my student days, a friend mentionned it to me and I checked it out. I have since used it whenever I am looking for a new place to live and for job hunting too as there's often plenty of ads to choose from... That is what Gumtree essentially is: an ad board for all sorts of categories... The categories consist of 'flats & houses', 'jobs', 'cars for sale', 'cars for sale', 'stuff ..." Read review

Can't beat it for free advertising

AdvantagesFree (unless you want to upgrade), effective

DisadvantagesNone for me

"== What's Gumtree? == In case there's anyone who doesn't know, Gumtree is a website where you can advertise goods and services - for instance, we've sold a car, a dining table and a bike through this site and it's cost nothing. I also occasionally put an ad on for my English teaching (I teach English as a second language) and I've found extra students as a result. It's local too so it's worth advertising even small things on there. Equally, as you ..." Read review

Looking for a flatshare?

AdvantagesWide userbase and variety of ads.

DisadvantagesSite often experiences technical difficulty.

"I can't belive no-one out there has reviewed this already so on to business... What is it? Admittedly, this isn't going to be a review of the WHOLE site; I'm just using it to try to find somewhere to live when I move next month so this review refers to the flatshare search facility. So, in a nutshell, Gumtree provides a facility for posting ads for rooms available to let and to alert others that you are looking for a room UK-wide. Features The ..." Read review

Gumtree - not much to bother with

Advantageslots of adverts, easy to use

Disadvantagesno security measures, load of nothing

"Gumtree.com is a website that is basically a local listing site, nationally! When you go to the site you pick the nearest city or large town to you from a list, and then the adverts you see will be more relevant to your area. There is a large list of cities to choose from, so you should easily find something in your area. There is quite a range of different listings on the site, including items for sale, items wanted, job vacancies, property listings, ..." Read review
