Disadvantages Disadvantages junkies in your house, bad design, overpriced

Let’s get busy The last few weeks have been hectic. Between packing two houses, arranging finances and getting butt naked on stage for charity, I’ve realised that myself and my partner have a lot of furniture that won’t be able to fit into the new place all at the same time. Short of rotating the furniture out into the garden on a weekly or monthly basis, we decided it would be best to get rid of all the duplicate shi…stuff… ahem… that we have accumulated. A visit to the Gum My grandfather will hold onto anything. Bits of wood, packaging, any materials or objects that someone might wish to use ... more

This review is based on me ''trying'' to sell and ''trying'' to buy certain items on Gumtree. I write ''trying'' in inverted commas as that is the only way I can describe the relationship between myself and the adverts. I will talk you though what Gumtree is, how to sell and how to buy. If you have never heard of Gumtree or its use then I shall delve into a simple yet informative explanation. Here it goes.... What is Gumtree?? It is a website that allows you to post a free advertisement for pretty much anything you like. You can buy/sell anything from a packet of sweets to a car. You can ... more

Thought I would review a site that I check very often. www.gumtree.com Background Gumtree.com started back in March 2000 when a local classified ads and community site decided to connect people who were visiting the city or for people who planned to move here. Since those dark days Gumtree has went from strength to strength today they have over 1million hits per day, they are in 60 cities across 6 countries. These include UK, Poland, Ireland, New Zeland and others. In 2005 Gumtree became part Kijiji within Ebay The website When you first surf over to www.gumtree.com you are greeted with a ... more

Advantages Advantages still fees free! (for standard adverts)

Disadvantages Disadvantages Any option costs money, plenty of time wasters, ads get automatically removed for no reason

Gumtree is a website dedicated to free ads of certain areas of the globe. It is advertised as UK n°1 website for classified ads but it has branches also in other Worldwide locations (Australia, Poland, New Zeland, Asia and South Africa) plus European and North American partners, meaning other websites called differently but offering the same service. The website is divided into main areas of the UK and each main city in those areas have their own space for posting your ads. So if you live in Manchester you will post your ads in your local area. Also the search of items for sale is local, there ... more

Advantages Advantages free listings, easy to navigate

Disadvantages Disadvantages potential for scammers and con artists, remember basic personal safety rules

As I recently had a piece of very good fortune I found myself with a car to dispose of - a car which still has an MOT, and one which I fully intended to run myself for a couple of years yet so what to do? I'm tight fisted (sorry frugal as it should be known now) so I didnt want to go paying for listings on things like autotrader or the local paper, and I'm not a fan of ebay so for me at least ebay motors was out of the question. It didn't leave many options which I felt would be successful so while pondering I went off in search of my mums birthday pressie - a fishtank - which lead me to the ... more

Many will remember a time when the classified section of a local newspaper was all there was if you wanted to look for second-hand goods, or look for a place to live without going to an estate agent…but not anymore. Goodbye the classified section; hello Gumtree.com To quote the frontpage of the website, Gumtree advertises “Homes, jobs, cars, sofas, vintage records… anything, really”…and they’re not wrong! It lists it’s good in cities across the country. And not just the capital cities of the UK, but anywhere from Brighton to Nottingham, from Oxford to Aberdeen. This handy tool can help you ... more

Advantages Advantages Not too Java heavy, some customisation to be had with ad posting

Disadvantages Disadvantages Needs tighter moderation on regards to spam and scams

Gumtree is a site for local community classifieds and which covers 60 cities across 6 countries. Whatever it is you might be looking for - whether it be a 5 string bass or NSA sex - then these are sorted into several sub-categories (under 'Flats & Houses', 'Business Services', 'Friends & Dating', 'Cars for Sale', 'Stuff for Sale', 'Community' and 'Jobs') for browsing through. The search engine allows for finding something specific fairly quickly, as well as getting back to a previously visited ad instantly via the posting reference number. Although you can also save the ads. It is free to post ... more

I'm reviewing GUMTREE. I think most people will recognise the name, but in case you don't, it is an online selling/buying site. Think ebay ,but without bidding and with a wider range of things on offer. For example you can advertise for flatmates on there, rent out property ,advertise services, sell /buy animals. ****WHY I USED IT**** To sell items I no longer needed but knew someone would be happy to buy, and to buy something I couldn't afford as new. I also use a 'freecycle' site for passing on items, but some things WILL bring in a few ££££s and that being the case ,why not sell them & help ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Spam, Forum is poorly managed

I first came across Gumtree when I was looking for a place to live in my student days, a friend mentionned it to me and I checked it out. I have since used it whenever I am looking for a new place to live and for job hunting too as there's often plenty of ads to choose from... That is what Gumtree essentially is: an ad board for all sorts of categories... The categories consist of 'flats & houses', 'jobs', 'cars for sale', 'cars for sale', 'stuff for sale', 'services' and 'friends/dating?!' even.. The site is also divided into areas/locations; for the UK - most of the popular UK cities are ... more

What's Gumtree? In case there's anyone who doesn't know, Gumtree is a website where you can advertise goods and services - for instance, we've sold a car, a dining table and a bike through this site and it's cost nothing. I also occasionally put an ad on for my English teaching (I teach English as a second language) and I've found extra students as a result. It's local too so it's worth advertising even small things on there. Equally, as you can look nationally for something you want to buy, it's also worth advertising things like cars. The person who bought the car from us came from about 90 ... more
