    Gumtree.com is a website that is basically a local listing site, nationally! When you go to the site you pick the nearest city or large town to you from a list, and then the adverts you see will be more relevant to your area. There is a large list of cities to choose from, so you should easily find something in your area. There is quite a range of different listings on the site, including items for sale, items wanted, job vacancies, property listings, services offered and much much more.     I can't belive no-one out there has reviewed this already so on to business... What is it? Admittedly, this isn't going to be a review of the WHOLE site; I'm just using it to try to find somewhere to live when I move next month so this review refers to the flatshare search facility.     Gumtree is an online website (gumtree.com) which allows you to place free classified adverts for many items. Some of the sections that are covered are: jobs, dating, freebies, items for sale, cars for sale, flats for rent, flats wanted etc. In each category there is the option to post for things that you would like to buy/or receive free (TV please LOL!). Depending on which city you live in whether people are using it but it is quickly spreading all over the world and is in over 30 cities and towns in the UK. Gumtree is broken down into different categories that you can search to find what you're looking for or post an advert.     I first used gumtree to serch for a job. Gumtree has many different towns to go on and browse different catagories for jobs. In some of the catagories there are spam posts linking to websites that are not real jobs however if you take time to look its easy to find some decent jobs. Many employers are now choosing to advertise on gumtree.I myself have found the majority of my jobs from the gumtree website going back about 4 years now.     Disadvantages Disadvantages Some sites may be a bit frivolous.

    Gumtree.com is like one of those ad newspapers (eg. Loot) but online and is extremely helpful and user-friendly. I have been using it a lot recently as I am back in England for a while and it is great for job hunting, accommodation and even finding friends! It is very user friendly and you can even post free ads without giving away all your personal details. You can also hone your searches by changing the town you want to search in and there is even an option to change countries : maybe a holiday rental in France or a job in Poland!     Gumtree.com. When you first hear about this website, you'd think they aren't serious. However, you know what they say, don't judge a book by it's cover. Gumtree is one of the best sites ever to search for a variety of things. The best thing is that not only are there job offers, but there are also cars and houses advertised for sale, many other items such as phones, tickets, instruments, baby and kids things and much more up for sale.     For traveling throughout the UK (England and Scotland) last summer, we used the gumtree.com website for booking our accomodations, often on short notice. We were really impressed with how easy the site is to use, how smoothly we could search and screen, and how accurate the information always proved to be. I have used other sites for this purpose, and, in my opinion, gumtree outshines them all. I am not sure how they do it, but we always felt that the representations of photos, amenities, and prices were fair and truly reflecting the facilities chosen.     Gumtree seems like a good place to advertise, especially as you can advertise for free. But the down side is when you are advertising property; you get emails from cash buyers. They use various names and ask to view your property, but give email addresses in order to try and take you off Gumtree. I wouldn't trust these people so I never contact them through the email address given, I only ever give a mobile phone number, which strangely they never ring! They give low offers via Gumtree email which we would never take, yet still keep trying various ways to view our property. We really don’t ... more

    Gumtree offer a very expensive advertising service which is driven by their "featured "ads offering more exposure to visiting potential purchasers. What they don't easily tell you before taking your cash is that your ad will be "featured" on a rolling basis meaning that the chances of a casual browser of seeing your ad is a bit likr buying a winning lottery ticket. When you try to contact this commercial love child of Ebay it is as close an experince you will have to getting an open tourist visa to North Korea. No one has a name ,answers a phone and the staff respond to scripted emails ... more
