I just don't like this site. They asked me for an e-mail address and I gave them one. I've asked them several times to stop sending their rubbish to me but every day I get 'Homestead News' or 'Make your site pretty.'
It all began about six months ago. I am a member of a club, who wanted me to design a website for them. I had heard about Homestead from banners on the net saying it's free and wonderful. So I clicked on to their site and tried to sign ... ...apparently I was already a member - no, stupid dumb machine.
Well, after several attempts, I was finally accepted. I clicked on the 'Get Building' button. Strangely, it didn't actually take me to the building page. It took me to some ad about how fantastic Homestead was and how I should sign up. So I tried again. Obviously some member of staff had put the wrong page on the wrong URL.

...am writing this opinion on homestead.com in response to the opinon by itsmaza. I would agree that homestead.com are irresponsible with people's sites, but then what can you expect. You never get anything for nothing! That's something my granny has taught me over the years.
WHAT IS HOMESTEAD.COM?
Good question! It is a website that offers you free webspace so you can have your own domain. It provides site builder tools and many easy to install jazzy ... ...and also for personal study. You can do anything with a homestead site, it's not just a christian site but i chose to make mine so!
I don't think i would use homestead.com again though but i keep it as it is now!

If your looking for a easy website then this is the place to set it up! Homestead provide you with the tools and 12MB of space to set up a fully functional add free website, which is a rare thing to find! The uploading is all done via the Homestead editor which you can use either online or download the offline version, as with the rest of the site, this is free! Homestead is essentially a great all in one package for those people who want to create their own website. After exploring all it has to offer it is mainly aimed at personal/fun websites BUT what you can come up with is fun/flashy/and stunning.
It also caters for all levels of computer literacy..you can either follow the pre-loaded templates, create your own pages from scrathc using simple drag and drop methods, or if your really advanced then you ... ...for a website...a wide range of fonts/graphics/animated effects, along with messageboards and guestbooks.
Sites built on Homestead are also fully custamizable..you can upload your own pictures or logo's!!
Basically the more you play the better it comes out, the possibilities, and the fun you can have are endless, a great way of inspiring creativity!!

Homestead is my e-mail and web page server. The interface is easy to understand and quick to use, you can also download it so that you can work from home.
There are a lot of "elements" to use in designing your WebPages, these improve the quality of your site and let you use things such as horoscopes, magic 8-ball (don't know what this is), chat boards, message boards, guest books, counters, etc. I did most of the work at home and modified it using ... ...pages, if it's a member-only site, or if people can only have access to some of the sites, e.g. if you are making a game and no one except the player is allowed into his bit. A good thing is that it registers your site with search engines for you, but this may take a while as search engines must have loads of inputs per day. Another thing is that you can put in storefronts to earn money, but you can choose which ones go on.

Homestead is a nice and easy way to create and publish your very own website. You don't need any of the computer skills needed to make a website such as knowing the programming language HTML.
Homestead uses elements which you can add to your page to give it that extra bit of life, with backgrounds, buttons and many more usefull elements, Homestead site builder does all the work for you.
You can work on your website on-line and off-line if you choose ... ...well put together help topic, if you are ever stuck on your website help is just a click away.
Homestead also offer a personal E-mail address and if you are interested on how many people visit your website they offer a site stats option which will record how many people visit your web site each day.

I have four sites with homestead but they are nto very reliable. They make it very easy for you to design a website, they allow you to have more than one website and with each one you get a reasonable amount of space but my problem is their site is usually not working which means you can't edit your sites or because their site is having problems it makes you site(s) mess up badly. I have a free stuff site with them but it always ends up looking really ... ...to try and make it look professional and to make people want to come back to it. They are so unreliable. Nobody can really complain though because it is free and it is easy to use. I shouldn't really complain but after going and purchasing a domain name for my free stuff and competitions site then I'd like it if people didn't have to go to my site and see it messed up and think it is my fault. I guess there are a lot of people who have the same opinion ...

At the start when I first got the internet 3 years ago, Homestead was just a small webhost and FORTUNECITY was the best, but as I was new to the internet I decided to go with homestead. Back then it was only 10MB of webspace and you had to have there logo on every page. I downloaded there site ed and found it very easy to use. Then I stopped useing them as it took ages to upload anything to them and *.JAVA , *.CLASS & most other JAVA related files ... ...why, they responded after a while and this was a long while and said they would look into it. That was 2 years ago and the problem is still there! This is with there FTP site.
Now I use terrashare which give 50MB of space unlimited bandwidth and pay you for every person who visits your site, and they dont advertise on your site just visit mine to see >> http://www.foggames.com-1.net << you will see that on the index page only one pop up is show ...

I decided i wanted to make a personal website to keep friends and relatives posted on my news etc, especially as most of my friends are going away to university shortly so was recommended to homestead by various friends. Although this website builder is easy to use and has many elements to make it attractive, being free it does also have its diadvantages. I found that sometimes after I'd saved my work, it would be fine for a few weeks and then headings ...

This was one of the other free hosting providers used in my experiment (see my review of Fortunecity.com).
Personally I found this rather restricting and the tools provided rather slow.
One good thing is that the site seems to remain up even if you don't modify it over a long period of time. Always a worry with free providers.
However from reading other reviews this services seems to come highly rated. Perhaps because of my experience in HTML ...

Hi - I normally don't to do these reviews but feel I have no choioce and I must save people from being screwed by this organization. Of course this is just MY opinion but if you google around you will hear of quite few more sob stories., Wish I had come here before buying this crap. HOMESTEAD SUCKS PEOPLE SORRY TO BE THE BEARER OF BAD NEWS. REM if it sounds to good to be true its usually is = HOMESTEAD If you have sunk a lot of money into Homestead ... ...away from these people. If your looking for a professional site, buy your own domain and get a pro to do it if you cant do it yourself...You will save yourself much cash in the long run and less headaches/stress forever, BTW after being screwed by Homestead for a about 4 months with ZERO results YES a big fat F****ing ZERO I got my act together. I bought my OWN domain for penny's and purchased WYSIWYG Webuilder V5, much easier to use than crappy ...

Advantages: Extremely simple. First time users or children will understand. Disadvantages: Abominable Macintosh options.

While I was prepared to have a few ad banners on my finished site, I wasn't prepared for the shocking lack of attention to Macintosh users. This is the third host which I have used to host my website, and I can assure you that this is the easiest one I have used yet. They give you a simple easy to use program which you can create your website with, an easy to use publish feature, where instead of the normal typing in where your web page is, you just click on a button. The signing up process does not take too long and you can have multiple web sites hosted with them. Lacks html compatability, ...

I am a professional web developer who started out by building sites on free web hosts like homestead.com. Most understood that a majority of their clients were amateurs and made building a web site basically easy to do. Homestead is not one of them.
I have used the web building tool and have found it to be too complex. It is not intuitive to use (which it should be if it is going to be used by beginners). I found it difficult to figure out how to ... ...their editor. Instead of making such a complex program, they should have offerred a web-based editor like geocities. The fact that it can be downloaded and used offline is nice, but, if I was going to use a GUI editor on my computer, it would be Microsoft FrontPage not the homestead tool.
Also, the fact that you must create your homepage using thi program unsettles me. You cannot create your own index page. You must this program or it willnot be ...
