    Living in a rural area, I have come to realise that not many of the supermarkets actually offer a home delivery service for my groceries, but out of the two that do, Iceland is easily the best and most competitive service. I shall do my best to explain why. Our local Iceland is in the heart of our nearest town, and I do not use it as often as I would like, the reason being the other supermarkets are on the outskirts of the town and are easier to get to, and also to park.     I decided to enter which was for me the virgin territory of online shopping after reading so many ciao reviews where the members recommended it. My freezer was empty so what better place to start than the Iceland web site. Please excuse the simplistic way I am writing this but I feel this will help all that have not taken the online shopping step either. Log onto the web site and enter your postcode to see if Iceland delivers in your area. Luckily they did so now I can proceed to the registration process.     It’s not been a good week. My car is on the fritz and I couldn’t get to the supermarket. The cupboards were bare – nothing left, not even the tins of goose liver pate and game soup that came in the Christmas hamper and no one fancied. Zilch. Nada. Nowt. Old Mother Hubbard syndrome.     As a supermarket i think Iceland has improved over the past couple of years (certainly since i worked there 3 years ago) but still has a long way to go before it rivals big boys sainsburys and Asda. What you can get in an Iceland store very much depends on the size of it, a small one will give you the basics but the newer bigger, stores will give you quite a lot of choice and range. The website will offer you what your local store has in stock (this is the store that will probably deliver to you), so what you get depends on how big that store is.     Well on Sunday 3rd Nov. 2002 all the latest offers started and I dived to the computer (I'm not *always* on here y'know!) to log onto Iceland.co.uk to place my order cos I really couldn't be bothered traipsing round the store with my kids in tow! There I am browsing the isles, always on the lookout for the ever-popular bogof offers and the buy three for the price of two etc, etc, etc,........     I've used a couple of online suppliers for my groceries and so far Iceland is the best by far!!! The Site ~~~~~~ The site was well laid out, looked very professional and was quick to load. The first page was able to take the user to various places - shop now, check out all the online appliances, dinnerware from 99p if you spend £5, latest deals and whats new. As you enter the 'shop now' icon you are greeted with another 'welcome page' and in the top right hand corner is the 'recommended by CIAO users' symbol (no better reason to choose Iceland now!!!!!!).     "What? I can order it ALL online? And delivery is free?" I asked a friend, bemused. I hadn't really been caught up in the online grocery shopping explosion - indeed, I actually thought services like these were only available around London and the big cities. I promptly fired up my web browser and toddled off to www.iceland.co.uk, not expecting my area to be listed. What a surprise I had when I found my local store delivered to my area.     When I lived in the Scottish Borders, my nearest supermarkets were five miles away. The thought of dragging my monthly shop on and off a bus was not very appealing and a taxi would have been too expensive. I looked around on the net to see what was on offer and decided to give Iceland a try. First of all it’s best to have a little look around the store before you register, you can do this by clicking on the button that says Take a Look.     I had never tried online shopping before. Appart from the occassional purchase on Blackstar, and the odd bid on ebay, I had been vary wary of handing out my credit/debit card details out on the inernet. I had heard such scarey stories and, being such a technophobe, I thought that the conventional way of shopping was for me.     I have been using Iceland online to do my grocery shopping for some time. It is really easy to use the site, everything is set out in catergories and sub-catergories, so once you have used the site a few times you know where all the products are found. If you order the same things each time you can save your order to use again. I like looking for all the special offers and all the buy one get one free promotions. Shopping like this is so much easier than going to my local store with my 3 year daughter in her pushchair, balancing the shopping basket whilst trying to steer the pushchair at the ... more
