Just the job

Advantages: Plenty of jobs there (although I doubt that many are not genuine adverts)
Disadvantages: Horrible website design, not user-friendly

There is no doubt that www.jobserve.co.uk has to be the biggest resource on the web for jobs, particularly IT jobs. When I checked this morning there was 21000 IT jobs available - quite a lot considering that the market for IT jobs isn't supposed to be too healthy at the moment. The search facility in Jobserve is quite functional but nothing special. You can refine your searches by the use of the keyword "AND" so a search for "C++ AND Manchester" ...
...There is no other way to refine your searches further which is quite a big ommission. An advanced search facility is quite a high priority feature when searching for jobs. You can register your details on Jobserve and once that is done you may upload your CV to the database and add your own search strings in the database. You can specify emails of jobs to be sent to you whereby the jobs are results based on your specified search strings. The user-interface ...

Lots of jobs, but are they all real

Advantages: Lots of jobs, clear, simple
Disadvantages: Fake listings?, searching too simple, all agency

I've used jobserve.co.uk for years. It is always good to keep up with what is out there on the market. However, I have applied for jobs from this site and have had no success. I don't know of anyone who has ever got a job from jobserve, so I question the validity of some of the listings. For example, I applied for a job which I happenened to have seen listed more than 10 times over 2 months. I thought that perhaps the company were waiting for the ...
...this site. I think jobserve.co.uk as a company need to be careful to retain advertisers though, so doing this might turn away revenue. It's a catch 22 as to whether they want quality advertisements, or many advertisements. I'd have to recommend this site, but as with all job sites use with caution. If you're really looking for a job, I would suggest that your primary search should be directly with companies in your area that you would be interested ...

Come for a paddle in the shark pool!

Advantages: Plenty of jobs, updated very regularly
Disadvantages: Dated layout, some dubious content

Looking for a new job? As with most things these days you will find that turning to the internet can prove a useful exercise, although in this case there are certain things to be very wary of! Jobserve is one of many job search engines on the internet - though it was the original and is probably the biggest. These "job boards" can be considered the modern day equivalent of classified ads that appear in the local paper. The vast majority of jobs ...
...- media and construction for example. Simply enter your search criteria, keywords or phrases and location/s and you will be presented with, potentially, dozens of the latest vacancies posted by recruitment agencies and, though less commonly, employers themselves. To apply for a vacancy you like the look of, you can upload a stored CV (you need to register for this but it is free and also allows agencies to search the CV database for suitable job-hunters) ...

Not quite as impressed

Advantages: Quick, Variety
Disadvantages: Search Criteria based on Posting time not relevance

Whilst I can only agree with the other reviewers in their opinion that Jobserve provides a huge variety of differing roles and that it is quick and efficient. I think that over the last six months they have changed the way in which their search works, whilst I used to be able to immediately view a job that I might be interested in according to my search criteria I now often have to wade through pages quite often unsuitable jobs to get what I want ...
...money out of agencies who want to have their ads on the first page, they have changed the criteria to give you the most recently posted jobs regardless of match. Yes I still use jobserve since no other sites seem to have the same variety of roles, however I am now looking elsewhere for good alternatives because I'd like to see relevant jobs straight away and not four or five pages down the line. ...

rape and pillage

Advantages: lots of jobs
Disadvantages: they're not all real

Hmmmm. Jobserve. A mighty handy tool. I'm unemployed. BBut I sure as hell won't be using it. Well, technically I'm a student, but my course is coming to an end soon, and I have no job lined up. So I'm preparing to be unemployed. My life shouldn't change dramatically in all honesty. But I digress. I have never actually used jobserve from the huntee's end. I've used it at the other end when I was working as a recruitment consultant for a brief time ...
...board by hundreds of independant agencies. It's pretty easy for them to sign up, and they can post as many jobs as they like providing they pay their fees. On my first day at my job I was told that my function in the office was 'to rape and pillage'. In recruitment speak this apparently means use candidates who send their cv's in to find out where there might be openings for jobs which we could send our own candidates out to... Soooo I was supposed ...

Big isn't always better.

Advantages: quick simple interface
Disadvantages: spurious job ads with limited descriptions

Yes Jobserve does have a large database of jobs and the interface is basic & therefore quick. However, mother always said never judge a book by its cover & in the case of this IT job board that is most certainly the case. First off, the job descriptions must be limited by the site as I have found the same job advertised on other sites (ComputerWeekly.com for example) with a much fuller description including information on the compaies philosophy ...
...the job via the ad that really caught my eye not the generic Jobserve text. Secondly, I am starting to think that agencies get a lot of poor quality responces from Jobserve as when I metion where I saw an ad there always seem to be a Spanish Inquisition into whether or not I really do have the skills I claim, while when I apply to the same agency via a other sites they are generally more accepting of my qualifications. Thirdly, it seems to me that ...

No 1 Site for IT Jobs

Advantages: Very good site for IT jobs
Disadvantages: Needs improvement in terms of features.

I have registered on this site for a while now and have been using this site almost daily. Job Ads ********* I am on the contracting line and am on the look out for the SAP FICO Contract jobs and have found most of the requirements come first on this site. I have seen the same job ads come up on the other sites like cwjobs later, but first it is advertised on this site. Almost all the advertisers are placement consultants and very rarely the companies ...
...far. 1. Same position being advertised by multiple consulting agencies. 2. Same position being advertised by the same agency multiple times. This creates a lot of confusion and for a person who is not aware of this, it might look like there are lot of jobs there, but in reality its the same job which is appearing more than once. The Job ads contain all the details of the role, the advertising agency, their contact number and the contact person, ...

Best for IT jobs

Advantages: quick, easy to use
Disadvantages:

It's my first choice when it comes to finding a IT job. I'm a software engineer and was looking for a job last year. The positions they have on the website are as many as you could image and I could alwasy find something new everyday. I've tried stepstone and others but couldn't really find many jobs there. OK, the design of Jobserve might be a little bit boring but it's fast and easy to use. It's not really a trendy website but definitely a very ...

Cool Site

Advantages: Brilliant site
Disadvantages: None

I have to agree with the other opinions on this site, this is where i managed to land my current position after having spent 9 years in the Royal Navy. I applied to lots of agencies and got a lot of excellent feedback and interviews, i am currently actively engaged in obtaining my MCSE and have just one more exam to reach that goal. This site is probably the best in its field for IT postions and includes both contract and permanent jobs. Lots ...

New IT jobs served up each day

Advantages: New jobs in your mailbox everyday
Disadvantages: No more lazy mornings when you're back at work

Jobs arrive daily in your e-mail inbox without you having to go to the website and repeatedly make the same search by re-entering all the same information. This site concentrates of employment opportunities in IT. So this would be of little or no use to anyone else. But if you need a job in IT this is one of the best online. Its main rival is Jobsite.co.uk and hey I use this one as well. You can visit the site and perform searches for various permanent ...
...unique feature of JobServe I do like is you can narrow down you search by looking only at the most recent postings from the last 1,2,3,4 or 5 days. This very handy to identify real new opportunities from those older and possibly already filled. Sign up to get your jobs that you are interested in to be sent you by e-mail. But, it is a good idea to do a few searches on the website to ‘tune’ the search engine so that it consistently returns jobs that ...

Lots of vacancies on JobServe

Advantages: lots of vacancies
Disadvantages: experience essential

I can definately recommend jobserve to anyone looking to get a job in the IT industry. The site has hundreds of vacancies which are all well paid. However, from past experience, it really is only worth applying if you have at least six months relevant experience in the field you're applying for. For example, if you're trying to get an IT Helpdesk job then you'll need at least six months IT Helpdesk experience or for the entry level jobs, six months ...

Psst Wanna a new job

Advantages: Simple to use, excellent selection of positions & agencies, fast
Disadvantages: Doesn't beat having contacts

Yes, it comes to us all eventually - the realisation that the grass is greener on the other side and that wonderful job you took is no longer the utopia it promised. Working in IT, this realisation can tend to hit you with the frequency of a David Beckham free kick. But where do you start? I think I did what everyone else used to do - sign up for Computer Weekly and then eagerly scan the job pages on a Thursday. Standard pun soon arose that if anyone ...
...new job? Let me have a look when you've finished.' I then found Jobserve. Jobserve is a simple, text based job site that serves the IT industry. It has an efficient (if limited) search engine but is bang up to date and has thousands of positions, as well as listing all the IT recruitment agencies. You can sign up for e-mail alerts - this is the best way, because you can limit the amount of positions you see and it looks like you're just reading ...

Great site .. but not if you live in North Wales :(

Advantages: Fantastic site
Disadvantages: Not that good if you live off the beaten track

Jobserve.co.uk is my first port of call when looking for work. I took redundancy 7 months ago .. and still out of work, but that's down to me being based back in North Wales and away from civilization! The amount of jobs posted on Jobserve's site on a daily (esp. weekday basis) is amazing. Any kind of talent you have in computing will be covered on this site and you can filter it down the the nth degree (and store quite a few of them using the autocomplete ...

Loadsa jobs

Advantages: quick, easy to use, loads of jobs
Disadvantages: hmm - can't think of any

THanks for listing so many job engines Ciao - I've now been trawling through them all! Job Serve seems to have the most number of suitable jobs for me (I'm an IT consultant) and the search engine came back with accurate results - it stripped out much of the nonsense jobs that other search engines give you. I even found quite a few in my home town - normally you can only search on large areas e.g. South East or home counties - which doesn't narrow ...
...in word format which saves time in entering your own details. Be careful to not put your number / address on there though to save unsolicited calls. I normally put my e-mail address on only and get recruitement agencies to contact me that way and then I decide whether I want to talk to them! I only posted my details today so I'll update this later if I get any responses! On the whole - JobServe is one of the best -if not the best. ...

best IT recruitment on the net

Advantages: good search facilities and e-mailed lists
Disadvantages: agency idiots may well call you

Jobserve has been my first point of call for some time when job hunting. I have been both a permy and also a contractor and I found this the best source in both cases. You can get a list e-mailed to you each day of all new vacancies but be careful to filter your list ot you will get so many jobs you will spend ages findind the ones you want. It also offers a CV distribution service and yes you do get calls from agencies but that's what you wanted ...
