I recently listed my top ten favourite websites, and after searching through Ciao today I see I can write a full review on one of them, so here I am, again. It's a teriffic money saving opportunity to music lovers, as well as ringtone lovers (with datacables and MP3 compatible phones!)
*What is Limewire?
Limewire is a one stop, non stop share file system. It's free and easy to use (Internet connection and relevant fees apply whilst downloading), ... ...and videos alike.
*Appearance.
There are several skins built in, and more to easily download. At the basic screen it's rather dull and drab, but functional. With a concertina folder style screen there are tabs at the top, boxes lower down to help you in finding your file whether it an image, video, audio, document or program. I love trying out new music, but if I actually bought everything I load onto my iPod on iTunes or CD, I would be permanently broke! Luckily for me there are ways and means to get music without paying a penny, one of these being peer-to-peer sharing.
I should point out that Limewire is not ENTIRELY legal. Okay, so downloading the programme is legal, and the concept of sharing files with others is legal - you could be sharing music you yourself have ... ...is copyrighted IS illegal, unless it was recorded before the 1950s, in which case its copyright has expired. That isn't to say that nobody does it, I would be willing to bet that 99% of Limewire users download music on it, and you are only likely to get caught if you take your computer for repair, for example, and they see tracks you have downloaded onto it. What exactly is LimeWire?
LimeWire is a fast and efficient download service with an inbuilt search engine and chat options. Using the service is extremely easy, whether you want to download MP3 files, MPEGS (movie clips) or JPG's (pics). It's all here at the touch of a button.
How do I get it?
To access this sofware you need to visit their website to download it, and unfortunately I am not allowed to provide a link in this review. Downloading ... ...follow the on -screen steps to complete the "free" download.
Dependent on what type of internet connection you have, download time varies so I would give an approximation of anything between 10-40 mins.
Once you have downloaded LimeWire product I found it helpful to create a shortcut from My Computer so that LimeWire always sits on your desktop.

Since the demise of napster, I, like many of us mp3 downloaders
have been looking for alternative software programmes to
download the wide variety that was available from napster
in the good old days.
I have used many programmes before including Kazza, Audiogalaxy,
Bearshare and ,so on.
The problems i encountered were either slow downloads, poor
search resluts returned or too much 'harmless' spyware detected by adaware.
Then, i came across ... ...was some four weeks ago. I've been using
the software ever since and have ditched both audiogalaxy and
bearshare (both still very good packages regardless).
Limewire comes as a 5.63MB package that i've downloaded from cnet.downloads.com.
Upon finishing downloading , it installs easily and quickly. A shortcut is placed on the desktop ( grey background with a green plug symbol).

Do you want something for nothing? Does free software interest you; how about FREE music, graphics and much more. Yes I did say FREE.
Now, before going on to the opinion in detail, let me say that I am not going to preach about the rights,wrongs or legalities, of obtaining goodies from file sharing sites. The choice to download software or music from these places is a choice for the individual and their own conscience. I am sitting firmly on the ... ...gathered from the above statement, a sight similar in nature to our dear departed Napster and Audiogalaxy. Limewire (from www.limewire.com) allows you to join the Gnutella network for peer to peer file sharing. Basically you type in a filename then the program searches the network for strings of characters matching your request. You then have the opportunity to download these files. The most popular uses for the Gnutella network at the moment are transferring MP3 music files and transferring images. Needless to say many of the pictures aren't ones you ... ...in particular is the ability to search for audio files only (or videos or images).
Limewire has a really easy to use front-end which allows you to keep track of your downloads. A major downside seems to be the regular loss of a connection 1/2 way through a DL. With other software, in particular Bearshare (from www.bearshare.com) resuming transfers after lost connections is automatic and effortless.

I have had limewire for a while now and have never recieved a virus from it. I think this because i have a good anti-virus and firewall, which was also free: AVG, and Windows automatic firewall.
Tips: *Ensure you upgrade all latest free versions to keep the connection at its best at all times.
*Do not accept to upgrade to Limewire Pro now as it is not free (choose the 'Later' option)
*Wait until the search is complete before downloading a song.

If you have a fast internet connection like my self, then a song of 4 minutes can take just minutes to download completely.
How many downloads can I have at any one time?
As many as the individual user wants, however the more downloads you have going on at the same time, the slower it may be to complete them.
