Advantages: manage your POP3 or IMAP4 based email at any web enabled PC Disadvantages: err.... wont make you a cuppa or fetch a beer
If you have a standard email account like me, (not web based – hotmail style) then what do you do if you’re away from home, want to check your email and send one too? Well there are actually some internet-based options, which let you manage your standard email account via the web, when you cannot access your mail in the usual fashion via Outlook or any other mail package. The web facility I recommend in these circumstances is mail2web; available ... ...The front page loads very quickly, it is uncluttered with just two banner ad’s using the top inch of the screen. To check your email you have to enter your email address and password. The password could be one that you assigned when you joined your particular ISP, or it may be a totally random offering, such as mine on NTLworld, which is jumble of letters and numbers. It’s a good idea now you know this facility exists to make a note of your password ...

Both Twigger and Mail2Web allow you to access your pop3 mailbox from any computer with web (port 80) access. You type in or select your details from a drop down box, click a button and have instant access to your mailbox. From here both sites offer you the ability to send, delete and move emails; pretty much everything standard web mail sites allow. And of course, both sites are free.
WHAT ARE THEY USEFUL FOR?
The main use for these sites is to ... ...simple and easy. These sites are also great to delete unwanted mail on your ISP’s servers, rather than downloading it to your computer and dealing with it locally. If your granny has just sent you a 10 meg video of her playing gin rummy in the nursing home, you don’t need to spend days downloading it, just delete it off the server. And while you’re at it tell your granny to use a more advanced compression algorithm, perhaps telling ...

Advantages: access mail from any pc Disadvantages: a bit slow sometimes
www.mail2web.com allows you to collect your email from anywhere in the world. All you have to do is to enter your email address and password to access your account. It works with most ISP's.
If you have more than one email account you can 'log off' fronm the site and then 'log on' again using your new email address.
You don't have to sign up , fill in forms or leave any details to use this service, and its free.
I find this very useful when I'm ... ...important messages and it can help stop your email box geting clogged up if you get a lot of mail.
You can delete emails from here so that you don't have to bother downloading them on your own pc. You can also reply to email from the site.
I did notice a rather odd thing about this reply service though. The return email address starts with 'mail.' which means that if someone uses the reply function to answer you then you won't get their reply. ...

Advantages: read any POP or IMAP account from any browser Disadvantages: none
I found this website by mistake. Basically we can't access any internet mail sites via the internet at work as they get blocked by our firewall and I was in desparate need to look at my Yahoo mail account as I knew that there were hundreds of emails that had to be deleted and I didn't want to go to the local library and do it there, so I searched the web to read POP mail and came across this website.
At first glance it simple enough. It asks you ... ...usual password for that mail account.
It will take around 3 or so minutes for it to locate and download your messages from your in box. Once its located your messages, it works exactly like your normal mailbox. You can read, delete and even send messages from here with your Yahoo etc. mail account name, it won't come up with "mail2web". It will automatically detect a POP mail account server settings but for IMAP, which is what Hotmail uses (I think) ...
