Advantages: Choose from a whole range of different domain names Disadvantages: Server reliability is debatable
Mail.com A few years ago I was fed up with the average names of emails such as yahoo.co.uk and googlemail.com – very unoriginal, although reliable, so I went in hunt for a free email site in which I could have a better @ something to suit me better. After looking through various links on google (got to love that search engine!) I came across mail.com. Advantages: all the regular email features, web based system, reliable and secure, choice of email addys Disadvantages: not much
Mail.com is another web based email service like Hotmail, Yahoo, Excite, Bigfoot etc. So why choose Mail.com over any of those? Well for one thing what do you want from your email? A secure retrievable service. Maybe something memorable as an email address? Well you could choose from several occupations, say like fredsmith@engineer.com - or say you are a Londoner, you could have fredsmith@london.com. Not bad is it - surely a bit more personal than ... ...a webmail rather than your ISP's regular email service? For one thing suppose your ISP ups its price and you want to move to another rival service (as we have done with AOL and moved to NTL where it's free 24/7), then you've got to change your email address. You may not be able to have the same name even. If you used to be fredsmith@aol.com and change to say NTL, they may already have a Fred Smith registered and you may have to be FSmith@... or even ...

...I have been using mail.com for this very purpose for over a year now. Mail.com offers a relatively simple sign up procedure and offers you the choice of many 'domain' address to choose from, which range from @profssional.com to @cutey.com there are many to choose from and you should be able to find one which suites. There are pop up windows when you login besides the glaring adverts all over the pages, but with the current state of online advertising rates at the moment its hardly surprising. I also lost all my previous emails and was unable to log on to my account for two months after the software which runs the site was updated at Easter.

I don't really use my mail.com account that much anymore, but I did/do use it enough to be able to write a reasonable opinion. I found mail.com by searching for free email sites on yahoo. There was something about it there that made it stand out from the rest. I used it quite successfully for a number of months and never had on problem. This on nestles somewhere in between the likes of yahoo and another.com that I just mentioned. It very functional and reliable.
The site is well designed, and access to incoming mail is easy. It pops up fast. Sometimes though, its as iff it doesn't load properly. I found that by clicking on the get new mail button, it all comes up straight away. The only problem ...

IF they would guarantee a failsafe service, I might subscribe. ...why the internet was invented. Mail.com is a very reliable service that has taught me something about real quality consumer online services, and I'm demanding when it comes to online services. I have 6 email accounts with Mail.com, because I like the variety of domains Mail.com has. Mail.com has also a new interface for premium service users.
Over the 2 years of having email accounts with Mail.com. I've had no problems at all in logging onto any accounts. I believe this email service is much better equipped for volumn traffic than MSN's Hotmail service, or Yahoo's.
The easy to use navigation is the key point to volumn traffic. The user is in and out very quickly, if we were in the wild west, ...

Advantages: easy collection of mail Disadvantages: collects the same mail more than once
I have recently joined fetchmail.com to have all my various ISP's e-mail collected in one place. The first problem I came across was the two of my ISP's cannot have the e-mail collected from them. They appear to only collect mail from pop3 servers, this left my mail from totalise being collected for me. When I went to fetchmail.com to check my mail I found that the had been extremely efficient in their collections, they had collected each mail three ... ...my first visit and this has happened on each occasion. They do not have a lot of time options for the collection of mail, which means using their highest time of 2 hours, you can end up with a lot mail duplicated several times which is not much help. I would only reccomend this service if you can check you mail on an hourly basis, if not do not use this service. ...

Advantages: None! Disadvantages: Slow, unreliable, deletes your address book!
I’ve had an account with mail.com for a couple of years and had always found it pretty reliable. But when I set off for a year travelling it let me down badly.
When you’re on the road, you meet people and take their email addresses. I got pretty good at putting them straight into my address book but obviously had no backup.
Then mail.com was sold to another company and in the process of changing their computer setup, I had no email ... ...waiting. The system is now also very unreliable - messages turn up days after they were sent.
I’ve now ditched mail.com and have messages forwarded to my lovely new Yahoo! account.
There are still people I met on my travels I can’t contact because of mail.com’s incompetence. Rant over! ...
