I have used megabus many times and would certainly recommend it., but let's face it, you get what you pay for. At £3.00 return Manchester to London it's the best deal around. The annoying thing is that it goes past my friend's house in North London but doesn't stop-so I pay another £3.50 to get from central to North London. I have only been slightly late twice, the best thing to do is to build a little spare time into your schedule. Compared to the other forms of transport I think that the schedule runs pretty well. The busses which I have travelled on compare very well with the other well known bus company-and for 1/10th of the price ...
Advantages: Cheap! Disadvantages: Internet only and lack of comfort
Megabus.com is fantastic! You book your seats online from as little as £1 with a 50p fee per booking. There's no ticket so you do need to remember to print of your confirmation e-mail and bring it with you. I've travelled from Swindon to London and back on numerous occasions and you cannot go wrong for the price. The earlier you book, the cheaper it is. What would cost me over £45 on the train costs me £2.50 with megabus. (The most I've paid is £12.50 ... ...book) It does take a little longer than the train but the saving outweighs the extra travelling time. It has only ever been late into London once and that was by just ten minutes. The only drawbacks are:
you can't take much luggage with you, the buses don't seem to have anywhere to put it except on a seat, which is ok when there's not too many people onboard.
It's not exactly comfortable for a long trip, it's basic bus seating and if you're sat ...

Advantages: Very very cheap, fairly fast, good customer service Disadvantages: Not quite as quick as the coach or train
I recently had to make a journey from Portsmouth to London, and was faced with various ways of doing this - i could drive, but to be honest couldn't face any problems getting lost or stuck in traffic, and it costs a fair amount. I looked into getting the train, very regular services and also new trains - but this comes at a price. The coach was the next step down, cheaper but not as fast. The megabus was my last consideration, but i gave it a go.
... ...out so simply its fantastic, very easy to use and i booked my tickets with no problems. They email you a number which you can either write down or print out to show the driver, ie no waiting for tickets to be sent in the post. They will even send it via SMS to your phone for a very small price (10p).
There are limited journeys between Portsmouth and London, but the times avaliable suited me almost perfectly so i can't really complain. I got down ...

Advantages: none Disadvantages: you don't get the tickets you pay for
I bought tickets from the megabus website. Or so I thought.
Their payment company worldpay took my money and sent me a confirmation. However megabus did not confirm my reservation and did not send me the reservation no. by text (which I paid extra for)
I am travelling in a few days and now there are no tickets left on any other bus services. I usually use Nat Express but they are sold out now.
In 3 days they have ignored 4 emails from me and i ... ...mins before eventually getting through, when I was told that their website "must have crashed" and that means they took my money but didn't make a reservation for me. No apology for taking my money from me, but they will refund it "shortly" apparently. The megabus website is down half the time anyway, so it's very unreliable.
I will never use this company again and if you need a guaranteed booking I would advise you to use a better run company like ...

megabus.com is a pretty good travel service online provider. Seats start from £1. What’s more, a one-off booking fee of 50p is charged for all reservations. You do not need a ticket when travelling. You simply show booking reference to driver. Life is easy, huh.
Megabus run in major big cities, like London, Oxford, Glasgow, Birmingham, Cardiff, Chesterfield, Edinburgh, Bristol, Sheffield, etc. You will see more information from the company’s web ... ...they accept Solo and Switch cards. When I first came to the UK as an international student, I could not get credit card from banks, which means that I could not buy certain things over the Internet. However, I got Solo and Switch cards. I travelled with Megabus because they accepted my bankcards.
Another reason I like Megabus is that I can make a reservation 1 hour before my journal. Although I normally make plans for travel, but some times things ...

Quick review of megabus.com
We booked a trip to London from Cardiff a few weekends ago-it was last minute & we were looking to save money. I remebered the adverts "Cardiff to London from £1", so logged on-tickets the day before were phenomially cheap at £20 each way return so £40 for 2. The bus leaves Cardiff castle,we got into Cardiff and had some breakfast then headed over to the castle. It turned up at 7.45 bang on time we got the front seats on the right of the bus, nice and roomy,we were due in at 11.15 but got in at 10.40 which was class. Bus home 2.00 and arrived home at 4.45 an hour before we were expected-quality!! ...

...strong motorway thumb. However, Megabus.com can seemingly get you a seat on a bus going that way for exactly £2!!
I believe they can offer such cheap prices because of the whole 'cut-out-the-middleman' scenario...but £2 for a 185 mile journey on a comfortable bus? They offer return fares...dated returns and open returns.
Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and England are covered.
All you do is visit the site www.megabus.com...

You then get a personal code that the bus driver of that trip will be aware of and will point you to your reserved seat...fantastic.
I believe that the service is run in conjunction with Stagecoach...so the coach WILL be comfy.
A booking fee of 50p is in place, but thats peanuts when you consider the cost of a ticket nowadays!
I mean...£8 ...

Advantages: cheap cheap user friendly Disadvantages: slow and cramped
Well what bad can you really say about a company that offers trips across country for a mere pound? The website is easy to use, you select the day you want to travel and then the time. Easy. The earlier you book, the cheaper the fare.
I took the Megabus from London to Leeds, and severely lacking money this amazingly cheap deal was to good to turn down. The journey itself took approximately 2 hours more than expected, and slightly less on the return ... ...wasn't really at fault! The only minor complaint I had, was that I would prefer to pay double the price and have a double seat to myself to stretch out a little, but unfortunately your not given seat numbers so even if I had purchased 2 tickets someone could still have sat beside me. Basically a Megabus journey is like sitting on your local town bus uncomfy seat but for a VERY LONG time! And at the same price. ...

Advantages: Once you use them you'll never use them again Disadvantages: No frills, no toilet, no legroom, no luggage space, no point.
It was a hot sunny day not too long ago waiting for the London to Manchester connection at the station. There were the normal mega bus coaches around us plus one clapped out old local stage coach bus!! You know the ones, no room for your legs and a seat with a metal bar at the top that digs in under your shoulder blades. So myself and my travel companion joked about the poor travellers who had to get on it until we realised it was going to Glasgow ... ...con completely packed with disgruntled passengers and no where to put luggage. The driver exclaimed "yes, I was disappointed with this when it turned up for the beginning of my shift at 3am", that instilled confidence knowing we had a driver that had already done a 12 hour shift. No sooner had we sat down we decided we were willing to pay anything to get off this 50mph top speed hell on wheels. So quick as we could we got off and got the first train ...

Advantages: None that I can think of Disadvantages: Buses run extremely late
Baltimore to NYC. Bus arrived on time, or so we thought, turns out the bus that arrived at 1755 was the bus that was delayed from two hours earlier and the driver would not let us on even though he arrived at our scheduled time. Advantages: can be cheap (but not always) Disadvantages: UNRELIABLE service, poorly trained drivers and inconvenient stops
I'm not able to comment on megabus elsewhere in the UK but my experience in Scotland has taught me to avoid megabus/stagecoach wherever possible. The megabus may sometimes appear very cheap but that's not the same thing as good value. I'd much rather pay a bit more than continue to suffer the unreliable service and sheer contempt for passengers that has been evident since Stagecoach aquired an effective monopoly of scottish intercity services in ... ...intercity bus operators in Scotland - megabus and citylink. Citylink provided a cheap reliable service to town centres. Stagewcoach's Megabus brand was cheaper but less reliable and less convenient. In other words, customers could choose whther they were more interested in price or service. Now that the two services have been merged into a single operation (under stagecoach control) the results have been chaotic
Incompetent timetabling means that ...

I've been forced as a student to use this service as my only means of going home, and it's awful. Megabus seem to believe that just for being a few pounds cheaper they don't have to provide decent buses, run on time, or hire proper staff. I've had a driver asking passengers where bus stations are after we're under way, people with scabies, break downs, late connections, no heating or unstopable heating, them all.
I am currently in the process of ...

Advantages: cheap Disadvantages: old smelly uncomfortable buses arrive late
I recently took the Megabus travelling from Aberdeen to Glasgow. The double decker bus was old (H registration), uncomfortable and with poor ventilation. We were told that on the lower deck we were sitting on top of the engine vents. The bus shook all the way and slowed down noticeably on any uphill slope. The luggage facilties were inadequate and this also slowed down the journey (as passengers struggled to retrieve bags from the front of the bus). ...
