Advantages Advantages simple to install, configure, IMs, Emails, pager & phone call options, easy to navigate

Disadvantages Disadvantages A bit slow to log on during peak hours, not a very exciting homepage

Well after earning my stripes using AIM and ICQ2K, I felt it was time to go a step further and take on board Microsoft's much raved-about MSN. I downloaded V3.5 with the minimum of fuss and although you don't necessarily need to be a member to use this I already had hotmail account & password setup which works very well with MSN. Once installed it isn't exactly the most exciting thing to look at compared to ICQ2K for example. However they often say that keeping things simple work best of all. On the front screen you have a number of drop-down menus: File, View, Tools, Help. Along with four ... more

    Advantages Advantages Ease of use

Disadvantages Disadvantages Only chat to 5 people at a time

MSN messenger is a relatively simple chat resource where you can communicate easily to friends or people you have the e-mail addresses to. I find MSN very easy to use compared to some of the other chat resources such as Yahoo and ICQ although these services may offer many more features. MSN is also very easy to install and is ideal for somebody who is not especially skilled with computers. The basic interface for MSN messenger involves a long vertical column which shows all the people who are on your friends list. The name that is displayed is there username, whatever that may be and if you do ... more

Advantages Advantages Great to stay in touch!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Address in hotmail list

I was introduced to MSN about a year ago when I started university and it is absolutely great for keeping in touch with friends. Basically, it is what it says it is - an instant messenger. The idea behind it is simple. You can sign up to MSN (and hotmail's email service) at www.hotmail.com. Once you have got an email address and password, off you go. MSN can be accessed when you log into hotmail. Alternatively, MSN Messenger service can be downloaded free from this site. Then, every time you connect to the internet on your home computer, MSN will start up. I began using MSN primarily so that I ... more

Advantages Advantages Free, easy to use, low system resources used, good functionality, reliable.

Disadvantages Disadvantages You need to install it on your computer

MSN Messenger (Renamed Windows Messenger for Windows XP) MSN Messenger (‘MSN’) is by no means the oldest instant messenger service available but is certainly the most popular and in my view the best I have used. Instant Messaging bridges the gap between Phone and email with instant text chat on the net. The advantage of this is that you can see who else is online and talk privately over the net, adding more people to the conversation as you wish or having a number of separate conversations at a time. The obvious advantage being that the service is international and as long as you have some ... more

    Advantages Advantages Lots of features

Disadvantages Disadvantages A little more detail in places wouldnt go a miss

MSN is a Microsoft website which offers a massive range of features, which I detail below. MSN for Email and Instant Messaging ----------------------------------- Although Hotmail could be said to be another site all of its own, MSN offers massive integration with both your Hotmail account and MSN Messenger if you use it. On the home page there is a small section called the Communication Centre which lets you know how many new e-mail you have in your Hotmail Inbox and which of your MSN Messenger contacts are online. This offers quick access to all of your friends. The Hotmail e-mail service is ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy & simple to use, possibly the most useful thing ever

Disadvantages Disadvantages Have to get a hotmail address to use it, will take over your life.

To be honest, i can't really imagine life without MSN anymore. Everytime i go on my computer, the first thing i do is logon to it, even if i absolutely know there will be no-one online. It's an impulse reaction i guess - to be honest, nowadays i use MSN more than the phone. If i want to talk to someone, i will go and see if they're online on MSN before i call them. Is that sad? I'm not concerned about this because basically everyone i know uses MSN and everyone is exactly the same. It's just so addictive! Conversations are fast as lightning and easy peasy even for beginners. Once you logon ... more

Advantages Advantages Real time opportunity to caht live

Disadvantages Disadvantages Sometimes, sad people try to ruin the enjoyment.

Not being an avid fan of BT, the saying it's good to talk meant absolutely nothing to me. That was until i found out about the chat scene at MSN. Firstly i have never much liked Microsoft for many reasons, and probably many of you the readers feel the same, but they do have their uses, some of which are actually very good indeed, so don't be put off to quickly by the name. Also if you don't know what internet chat is about, hopefully i will be able to elaborate enough to allow you to enjoy not just the read, but to also have fun, meeting people on the net. All across the web, there are many ... more

Advantages Advantages Allows you to chat to your friends simply and easily by typing or chatting if you have mic & speak

Disadvantages Disadvantages For the first time in a very very long time I can't think of any disadvantages to this!

MSN is an Instant Messenger service - basically that means it's a way of communicating instantly with someone else who is online at the same time, so that you both can see the messages the instant that you've finished typing them and either pressed rtn or hit the send button. It's a great way to communicate with people, and although the idea has been around for a few years now, the current MSN system is the best incarnation yet. To be honest, I'm quite a conservative person when it comes to PC's. I use Windows XP, Internet Explorer, and Outlook Express for example, these all being the systems ... more

Advantages Advantages Its just brilliant and soo easy to use.

Disadvantages Disadvantages TOOOOOOO addictive. I must sleep!!!

Like a lot of people new to computers, we were very aware of the chat rooms, and the sorts of people who use them. Indeed after only one visit to one site we decided we were not the sort of people to visit these places. Many of you will tell us we should not judge a book by its cover, but we did spend an hour trying to find some chat half way civillised, and it just was not to be. We tried a Christian fellowship room, only to be offered talk about fellowship that I am sure Christ did not have in mind. Now do not call me a bore or a prude, I like a laugh as much as anyone and do a good karoeke ... more

Advantages Advantages Fast, easy and simple access to your Contacts and E-Mail

Disadvantages Disadvantages The program occasionally crashes but it doesn't happen very often and you rarely ahve any problems with it.

Practically all Hotmail users have MSN Instant Messenger. The latest version (3.5) includes some new features and improved layout and design from the previous versions. This is the ultimate key to keepin in touch with people and you will always know when you have an e-mail as this program tells you. You can add unlimited people to your contacts list and when they are online you can either talk to them using a microphone or just the old fashioned typing. Whenever they aren't online you have the option to send an e-mail to them. The Profile feature of MSN can come in handy when you want to know ... more
