Then download mIRC. mIRC is the creation of Khaled Mardam-Bey, an enterprising young Brit. mIRC has been around for years, and is the chat client of choice for most hardcore internet users.
mIRC is basically a user-friendly interface for using IRC (Internet Relay Chat). I had heard about it from a friend who had told me how to get connected, so I downloaded it, and installed it. Advantages: Totally customisable, stable, well supported by author, established. Disadvantages: Text-only, so can't use webcams or voice to communicate. Addictive too!
In my opinion, mIRC always has been and always will be the only way to chat. It is just one of many "IRC Clients" - programs that allow you to connect to a protocal called IRC or "Internet Relay Chat" - but I believe it is by far the best.
What's the IRC protocal?

For those of you that don't know, ICQ stands for I Seek You, and is just another run of the mill chat program like MSN, Yahoo Messenger or AOL Messenger. mIRC, makes IRC simple, perfect for newbies. Unfortunately it's IRC that's the problem, with bots, floods and DoS attacks (exlpained later on) it can be a pretty dangerous place. Forunately some rooms are full of nice people who you can chat with and make friends. Servers, this is quite comfusing to the newbie so I'll explain, there are many different rooms on IRC, for example one could be #myroom, however the rooms depend on what server you connect ... ...#thedarksaiyans, connecting to irc.zirc.org and join #thedarksaiyans will bring you to an entirely different room. Different servers also have different rules, some allow cloning (making copies of yourself to multi-task) others forbid all bots, clones and anything that makes IRC fun. I have been using "MIRC" for quite a few years and find it easily the best "Online Chat Program" available.Its much better the ICQ and others, as it is a multiuser chat program, meaning you go in channels that can hold up too 200 chatterboxes at one time.
Well if you dont know, Mirc is a very easy to use Chat Program and stands for "Internet Relay Chat", to tell you the truth, I dont know what the "M" stands for, but Hey, is that important.
When ... ...a bit bewildered as it can be a bit tricky learning how to actually "Log on", but once you`ve done it once, it is simple.
What can you expect on Mirc? Well once you are logged on, you have a menu at the top of the page, which says "Channels", well just pull this down, and HEY you have a list of the most popular channels like Chat, Beginners, Mirc Help, etc, but this is not all, if you go back to your menu, you see another button saying "list channels", ...

Properly to most people, mIRC-ing is a waste of time, starting with an asl (age, sex, location) and end up with a bunch of bull shit! well, first of all, maybe true to many.. but as for me i meet many friends through mIRC and started a web-based business with the help of these mirc mates.
i started chatting via mirc using a 16-bit version mirc.. and god knows which version it will end up with .. but it definitely motivated me to move along the computer ... ...start my own small business .. so don't ever say mirc-ing is a waste a time .. mirc-ing is actually a tool .. like everything else, it's up to the user to optimise it ..

mIRC is a simple IRC client for all variety of users.For new users it offers a clear simple way of connecting to IRC, and for more seasoned IRC users it offers much in the way of expansion.
For new users, it couldn't be more simple. Select a server (i recommend DALnet) and type in your details and click connect. Once that happens a chanenl box pops up and allows you to chat in a safe enviroment.
For regulars mIRC is fully expandable. The built ... ...such as one line aliases to entire "remotes" script which can do anything such as tell the time or load music for you.
Another excellent feature is the easy use of file sending and recieveing. Files are transmitted using DCC (Direct Cable Connection) quickly using a few commands or a drag drop interface. This allows users to share information and files quickly with a minimum of fuss.
mIRC is also easy to upgrade, and in constant development. Over ...
