    Disadvantages Disadvantages Horrible customer service; censorship; downright confusion as to what's going on.

    The original opinion will appear with no corrections or updates after the following bit of information. Less than a week ago, I e-mailed MouthShut via their "Report a Bug" link in order to ask a question: "Do you think you could add a 'Delete review' link?" No reply. Fine. I don't give a rat's behind anymore. I just want to delete all of the reviews I have contributed to MouthShut because developments in the site since my original opinion was posted here have proven that it is, for the most part, a con job.     Unlike other reviewers, I did not receive an email from “jimmy”. Which, having dented my ego, puts me firmly in my place. So, of course, out of spite, I went there anyway. And, by the way, it appears “jimmy” does exist. At least he writes, reads, and has a profile. And he emailed a welcome after I signed up!     After reading DaisyDucks' opinion on Mouthshut I decided to write my own. I have been a member there for over 6 months now. You have to be there 6 months to cash out your points.I have written well over 200 reviews on there and have a lot of points. However nowhere on the site do I see how to redeem the points. I wrote them an e-mail requesting payment among other things and they answered the rest of the e-mail but nothing about payment. They also run contests on reviews and I was one of the winners of the education contest which was writing the most reviews in that category within a certain ... more

    Mouthshut.com is an opinions site based in India, at first site very similar to Ciao, but the rewards may not be a good as you might expect. A description of the site. Homepage... Links to joining,community centre,account/profile, star writer featured, latest 30 opinions and category list. Community Centre. Hall of fame, News, Hot Reviews, Member Flagged and Mouth Sealed.     The other day, I was sent an email, by a guy calling himself “Jimmy”, well anyway, this email quoted “Hi, I am Jimmy, I have been reading your Ciao comments for a while now, and like them, I am inviting you to join a new opinion site called Mouthshut.com”, so I thought, “Hey, I have never seen or noticed this guy rating my opinions”, so I came the conclusion that he has a different nickname on CIAO, well apparently I am not the only person to receive one of these emails, as I know of about another 20 Ciao users, to whom have also been sent this same email ... more

    Mouthshut.com was somewhere I first heard about after an e-mail from a character called Jimmy, who seemed to have bombarded a lot of Ciaoers with his e-mail about mouthshut.com - an Indian operation akin to Ciao. Ever the fool, I decided, after initially staunchly boycotting the site, to see what the hullabaloo was all about and went off to mouthshut.com. The site, although primarily based in India and with Indian products, also has a lot of international categories e.g. mobile phones, international cricket (after all the Indians are very passionate about this sport) travel, cars (automobiles) ... more

    ++ LATE EXTRA ++ Less than half an hour after mailing Faisal I got this reply: Thank you for your email. I must admit your suggestion is very noble and elegant. We have, in the past, accommodated the requests of about a dozen members, who requested their MS-Points amount be donated to various charities. However, it is more of a logistical nightmare for our accounts department. MS-Points are non-transferrable and I am afraid we have decided to make no exceptions now.     As far as Internet money making schemes go, I must have tried just about every one of the full range of programs, whether it be website banner ads, paid e-mail, viewbars, pyramid schemes and all the rest, but without doubt I've found that the best, most reliable and most lucrative to be the opinion sites, primarily Ciao and Dooyoo.     Well folks, as far as I'm aware most of you that persisted with Mouthshut never managed to redeem any MS-Points™ anyway, so it will probably come as no great surprise that after the 31 Dec 2001 MS-Points™ will no longer be redeemable at all!!!!! Yup, although you will carry on getting your points you will not be able to redeem them until further notice. For those who do want to try to cash in what they have, residents outside of India need to have points to the value of 999.00 Indian Rupees - which at their current conversion rate is around 10,000 points..... a far cry from the ... more

    There are not many DotComs that survive these days; even in the consumer oriented opinions sites there have been successes and failures. Epinion, Dooyoo and CIAO are all working well and providing a good service while Themestream disappeared, and Writtenbyme stopped offering rewards. However, there are always new companies appearing and attempting to break into this market - BigRag being a recent edition, and another newcomer being MouthShut. Mouthshut is a similar site to CIAO in that it allows you to write reviews and get awarded for writing reviews. Recently Epinions has just started ... more
