A must for all new students!

Advantageswell designed, easy to navigate, great way of meeting people going to the same uni, doing the same course etc, free

Disadvantageslack of auto login, some areas still under development, colour scheme may present problems for some

"~ WHATS IS IT? ~ Newstudent.org is a free website aimed at students who will be starting undergraduate courses at University in the coming September (although there are a few members who are in their second year at university and they are great for comforting terrified new students!) It is a way for students to find people who will be going to the same university as them, find people who will be on their course and chat to other new students about ..." Read review

New students unite! Review with images

AdvantagesReally useful and informative

DisadvantagesCan be a bit on the slow side, is very addictive!

"I've been a member of newstudent.org since around June/July 2004, and the site has proven invaluable to me through the whole university application process. When you join the site, which is a quick and easy process, you can fill in a profile for yourself, and choose up to six universities, to which you are, or are thinking about, applying. You can also select the course you are applying for, which is good as you can search for other users that ..." Read review

Essential for any new student!

AdvantagesGreat support mechanism! Very popular, very friendly people on there.

DisadvantagesTOO popular?

"I was linked to this site from www.ucas.com, and I went on, due to my building excitement about going to Uni (University of Sussex, should I get my grades) and my thirst for any knowledge that would fuel this excitement. Registration was simple and free, you were given the option of adding up to 6 Universities that you were applying to, and this allowed you to view their forums. Each University has it's own section, with 5 forums. These are: Accommodation Courses Everything ..." Read review

• New Students!!

AdvantagesLots of great members, good moderators, speeded up - hurrah!

DisadvantagesNo search facility, you get some stupid threads,

"...picture of a photo - newstudent.org provide some pictures which you can choose from, or you can upload one of your own, this is a fairly easy process. You can also see who has recently viewed your profile and in turn view theirs by clicking on their name. ~~ My Universities ~~ ================= This is where you specify up to six universities which you are looking at - this is because you can only apply to six through UCAS. Specifying your ..." Read review

Thumbs up for newstudent.org!

AdvantagesMeet future friends! plenty of useful info

DisadvantagesAddictive, can be a little slow during peak hours

"Newstudent.org is the place to be for students both already at uni and students who are applying. I discovered the website when i was checking ucastrack and saw it as an advertisement. From my own experience, it has helped me not only to decide what university is best for me but also has allowed me to meet new friends. This all helps to lessen the fear of beginning uni as you realise that you won’t be on your own! Newstudent helps you to do this. ..." Read review

Calling all new students

AdvantagesGreat place to meet people

"Since October when my friend first told me about this website i have been addicted. As soon as i go online i have to log on to see whether there is anything interesting about my firm choice uni (Loughborough) or just in general what people have to say. The website is aimed mainly at people who have applied to uni and deciding on their choices, although mainy students who are now at uni still visit the website regularly. It is easy to register, ..." Students to be!

AdvantagesWell laid out, great community, lots of info.

DisadvantagesSpecific to a certain group.

"The whole idea of going to university can seem a very daunting task for an 18 year old who has lived with their parents for their whole lives, especially if they do not really know anyone in real life who is in the same situation as them. This is where once again, the Internet can help us out. This site is based around a typical forum you would see all over the Internet, and as all forums do it has different sections for different subjects which ..." Read review

Possibly the best site for new uni students ever!

AdvantagesA brilliant place for new students to meet (hence the name newstudent)

DisadvantagesThe odd idiot here and there

"I'm a little bias because I've been on newstudent since around July 2004. However, it's a great little community on the net and it's much the same as you would find at university - everyone meeting for the first time (even if it is monitor to monitor) and starting conversations, being friendly and helping each other out. The general forum is there to get to know everyone properly and there are other forums for the individual universities, which ..." Read review

Calling all uni students!!

Advantagesgreat way to meet new people and find out about universities all over the UK

DisadvantagesIt can be a bit on the slow side

"I was first introduced to newstudent.org when one of my friends in school told me about it. I've been hooked ever since. The site provides an enormous amount of help for students considering going to uni and you can post forums to find out about other people who may be considering the same uni or same course. You can also get first hand information from people already at uni. This is extremely helpful as you can find out what the accommodation ..." Read review

Does exactly what it says on the tin!

AdvantagesVery Active, Good resource for newstudents

DisadvantagesSeems very primitive in some areas

"...UCAS applications allow 6 universities, newstudent.org also allow 6 universities to be selected as your "own" universitites. This will create a shortcut link in your profile so that you are directed quickly to the forums/message boards specific to that university. Very handy as only people with that university selected access that specific forum, so you have a little university community of people with teh same university selected. I mainly use ..." What Newstudent.org could offer you

AdvantagesHelpful, meet people in similar situation

DisadvantagesSometimes slow running

"...have been a member of Newstudent.org from October 2004 after seeing it advertised on the UCAS website after I had received my track number. I found the idea of the website good as it allowed you to discuss issues that other people were having as well as yourself. It was also a place where any doubts could be cleared up. I found it useful in how people who are currently at Uni still post messages on the site and PM people with advice. I liked this ..." Read review

I dont wanna leave school....aaaaaaaaaargh!!!!

Advantagesgood time waster!!!!

Disadvantagescan become addictive!

"Well who would have thought it, me, appliying for University, and even more shocking....me, getting an offer at University (wayhay!!!). Im sure, like most people i have found this whole process petrifying and completely alien, it is unlike anything i have ever had to do before. I think it is those dreaded 4 letters UCAS which send a shiver down the spine of any university aplicant! Luckily for us students there is a free website, newstudent.org, which ..." Read review

Meet your future playmates!

AdvantagesGet to know potential uni friends and share worries & experiences

DisadvantagesIt does get slightly addictive and there are periods of downtime

"This site was recomended to me by a friend at the time of applying to uni. Everytime I checked my UCAS responses (about 6 times a day!) I'd take a little look on the newstudent website as well and I am soooo glad i did! It was great to be able to chat to people with the same fears and questions about uni, and it really put my mind at ease knowing that I wasn't the only one waitng for a reply! Even when talking to those who had gotten responses, ..." Read review

Cool enough for school

Advantagesan abundance of friends

Disadvantagesnot that much to do with university

"Thanks to NewStudent.org i've managed to make friends with people i'll be going to university with whilst also socialising with many people from my age group which has kept me up to date with the happenings of 17-19 years olds. The range in forums allows users to find discussions on exactly the topics they want and the general topic forum covers every subject you could ever want to talk about. the one downfall is that it seems to be a large group ..."
