Raising the Bar, Not Just Your PC Speed!

Advantages: Lovely Site, Massive Product Range
Disadvantages: Shipping and Products often expensive!

In over 6 years of intimate experience with online shops, I've come to demand a lot. As retailer after retailer constantly better themselves, customers demand not only basic service, but want to feel looked after, in a similar way we all expect from traditional shopping. Let's take a look: Typically, a customer would expect to be greeted warmly by a sales assistant, spoken to politely and given relevant and crucial information on products, perhaps ...
...then make an informed decision after visiting many stores, weighing up price against customer service reputation. (If the service is poor and the item costs £220, I'll very happily buy from the store adjacent, who offer superb service but charge £240) If the item later turns out to be faulty, or the customer simply has some follow-up questions, the store should offer an apology and handle the exchange/repair sympathetically, doing so in a timely ...

I feel the need, the need for speed

Advantages: Top quality products
Disadvantages: Not for novices

www.overclockers.co.uk What do they sell? Overclockers stock a good range of computer upgrades and peripherals. Products include motherboards, memory, CPUs, graphics cards, sound cards, hard drives, CD/DVD drives, monitors, keyboards, case and CPU cooling basically everything you need to build/upgrade your computer. They even sell complete systems. Overclockers do not have the biggest range available compared to some of the big online retailers ...
...the most popular/top end products available, so if you are an avid PC games player looking to upgrade your gaming kit, this is a good place to start. What does the site look like? The Overclockers homepage is a simple affair with a black banner at the top which have the Overclockers logo, telephone number, customer support number and the address on it. Just below that is a row of rectangular buttons which when clicked will take you to either: "News", ...

Avoid Overclockers!!!

Advantages: High Spec systems (if they work)
Disadvantages: Very poor customer service, broken systems, terrible courier company

I ordered an "Ultima Vortex" GX2 PC from Overclockers a month and a half ago. I wouldn't use this company again under any circumstances. As a caveat to this review, some of the issues may have stemmed from the courier company City Link. However, if this is the company Overclockers insist on contracting for their deliveries, I believe the buck stops with them. A brief summary of my issues with them: 1) I paid £35 for a Saturday delivery. City Link ...
...were not instructed to deliver on a Saturday. 2) I took the next day off work to receive the system. It worked for 3 hours and then gave up the ghost. So the system Overclockers supplied was faulty. 3) I contacted Overclockers to return the system. I specified a morning delivery. City Link turned up in the afternoon to collect it. Again, they denied they had been instructed to collect in the morning. 4) I phoned and emailed Overclockers to ensure ...

Be aware

Advantages: Delivery
Disadvantages: Rude manager, false promises and lies when you call them.

Spent over £800 on barebone shuttle pc, CPU, RAM & graphics card. Excellent delivery, took two days after ordering goods. Spent a whole day putting it all together slowly reading manuals. Installed XP, couldn’t update. Realised Shuttle PC face was faulty, missing Bluetooth & wireless router as advertised. Asked Overclockers for help, for them to arrange pick up and delivery and the answer was no. Asked if I could send the machine back as it was (installed) ...
...the answer was no. Overclockers said ‘sent it back and you’ll get a full refund, including pick up & delivery charges’. What a lie, they didn’t want to give me any money back for pick and delivery. It cost me £52 to send it back using the same delivery service because DHL only covers £70 if lost, stolen or damaged. To get delivery insurance you must book on the phone with DHL and booking on phone will cost you twice as much if you book online. I ...

Selling to be broken

Advantages: Hard to find hardware
Disadvantages: Don't answer emails, products can occasionally be found cheaper elsewhere

Overclockers UK (Or OcUK as they like to be called) is the place to go if you’re after either obscure, extreme, or extreme and obscure hardware for your computer. There’s more than just a shop though, they have everything from a motosport team to a discussion forum – it’s a hardware site quite unlike any other. * The Site Itself * OcUK has to the best looking hardware retailer on the web. Tastefully decked out with white ...
...looking and most importantly, none headache inducing. The colour scheme does swap around a touch though – the shop swaps the black and the white round leaving everything look just as nice. Forums meanwhile are completely different, mixing gurple (A sort of greyish purple) grey white and black it looks fine but doesn’t really fit in with the rest of the site. Still, as long as the aesthetics of a site are tolerable it’s the content ...

Overclockers - Under-rated

Advantages: Great range, great service
Disadvantages: Not for novice PC users like me

...from Rabid, I went to overclockers.co.uk and purchased some goods which he had suggested to me. Overclockers sells computer components. They don't do complete machines but sell pretty much everything else. From motherboards to fans, you can pretty much find anything here. I bought 1 x 2.8GHz P4 Prescott, an MSI motherboard to support it, some fans and some heat sinks, some thermal interface pads. All of this totaled to about £200. The odering ...
...recognisable sections (such as "CPU's, Motherboards, Graphics") and then sub split into the different manufactorers. Personally, I don't like this way of organisation, I prefer to see all the products of a certain calabre together, regardless of manufactorer. But a search bar is provided and you can navigate around pretty easily to find what you want. If you know specifically what you want it makes life a lot easier. Information provided on the products ...

Does your computer need a face lift or tummy tuck

Advantages: Reliability
Disadvantages: Can be expensive

...the Internet I stumbled across overclockers.co.uk and it immediately caught my attention. The name ‘overclockers’ immediately suggest a site specialising in performance upgrades for your computer. They do tend to lean towards the more highly priced end of the market. But lower specification hardware can still be found, albeit in a very limited choice. So let me tell you a little bit more about the site. ~~~The look~~~ The homepage is quite striking ...
...company badge. Just beneath it are five buttons, allowing quick access to certain areas of the site ie News, Products, Support, Forums and Contact. The rest of the page is made up of various picture links to main product areas, eg Hard Drives, Graphics Cards, etc. The whole look of the homepage is very professional and welcoming. I usually find this a good sign and it did inspire confidence to proceed. ~~~Navigation~~~ Finding you way around the ...

Tweakers paradise.

Advantages: Pre-tested hardware, sells top quality products.
Disadvantages: Not for the nervous

I happened upon this UK computer hardware online shop, by following a link from Hexus.net, a hardware info website, that deals mainly with overclocking your hardware. Shops like this have done a roaring trade in the US, Canada and Australia and I was very pleased to find this one based here in good old Blighty. They sell a variety of computer hardware, from specially modified cases to unlocked and pre-tested processors, with everything necessary ...
...it's supposed to, they get hot and good cooling is an absolute must. The online shop is very well laid out, and many of the products have links to online reviews from independant sites, so that you can read up and make the best choices. The prices are very competitive, with pre-tested processors only commanding a slight premium. One thing to note is that the range is quite limited, with only the cream of the crop being available to but. So that's ...

poor customer service and returns procedure

Advantages: good range of products
Disadvantages: terrible after sales returns policy and staff not being accruate

After purchasing a new motherboard and processor a year ago all was going well untillthe motherboard caused the pc to crash from time to time, then it wouldnt even boot! it would pass the post but when it came to loading windows or attempting to use the recovery screen the pc just wouldnt have it. I tried 3 brands of ram from 512mb to 1gb along with IDE and SATA hard drives and still would not get to the windows installation screen! So i spoke with ...
...tried, but to make sure i did it all again with no joy. I obtained an RMA very quickly and posted it the same day! so far i couldnt complain about oc's customer service or tech support. I waited and was constantly told, yes the board will be tested today, yes the board will be tested next week! it finnaly got down to the engineer testing it in 10 minutes, so i phonned back again 2 hours later, no it will be tested tomorrow .. where they get the ...

Worst Service Ever

Advantages: There wasnt any
Disadvantages: I would never deal with them again!

The Worst site and customer service i have ever experienced. I have always used Ebuyer.co.uk for all my computing needs. A year ago, i thought i would try overclockers as some of the parts were cheaper than on Ebuyer. That proved a costly mistake. The motherboard i received was already a returned product and, when i tried building my computer, the motherboard didn't work! I sent it back and 'Apparently' they couldn't find anything wrong so they ...
...them say it was faulty (don't forget, i had to pay for p+p without any refund) and this time (after 6 weeks of back and forth emails) they found a fault. They did give me my money back but i wouldn't shop from them again as they just tried to lump the motherboard off to me. The customer support was not very supporting at all and kept fobbing me off with different things. ...

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!

Advantages: Cheap, huge stock list.
Disadvantages: Illegal return policy

Good company until something goes wrong. I used them for a while with no problems, I live nearby and so would use "the shop" to purchase items. I purchased a new Motherboard, RAM and a Graphics card. After building everything the system crashed every time I tried to install XP. I checked all settings in bios, checked leads etc. to no avail, still crashed whilst installing windows. I tried various combinations with other kit, swapped out PSU, RAM, ...
...in the bottom of the bag the motherboard came in. After about an hour I managed to find where on the board it had come from, straight next to a memory module. So I thought, this is causing the crashes, back to OcUK we go. Took the item back, showed them the motherboard and the detached resister, to which the gentleman serving me said "We'll have to test it". "Huh? Its broke" I replied, "bits have fallen off, it isn't going to work" "Still have ...

Its a community not just a shop

Advantages: Wide range of high quality components, quick delivery, staff
Disadvantages: High delivery costs, not for beginners, email response slow

I first found Overclockers.co.uk (OcUK) just over a year ago whilst trying to source parts for a new PC I was building. My first visit to the site left me very impressed. I was directed to them by a friend who had very good experiences with them. On the first page there is a massive range of computer components and assorted hardware, all with links to the OcUK online store. Very importantly, the site looks very proffessional and well made, the company ...

They even have a 'News' pages that is updated on a regular basis with product and stock news. When you do get through to a member of staff, by either email of telephone they are VERY pleasant and VERY knowledgeable about the products OcUK sell. One, if not the biggest reason I finally chose to purchase ...

Bad Customer Service and Poor Packaging

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Customer Service, Testing of Product, Packaging, Courier.

I was sold a bundle package of a Motherboard, CPU and RAM. I built the system and found that the ram was not compatible with the motherboard. I explained the issue to overclockers and sent the RAM back. A few days later the RAM was returned to myself with a letter saying the RAM tested ok and would not be replaced even though it was obviously not compatible when you check the motherboard specs. Overclockers obviously did not test this bundle before ...
...and im out of pocket becuase of the shipping. I have also had problems with their packaging being totally inadequate for the items being shipped. They do not use any padding like air pockets at all and parts are free to move around in oversized boxes. I wont be using overclockers again. ...

Ordering a Media pc and Graphics Card

Advantages: Good value
Disadvantages: Rubbish customer service, lack of communitcation on their end, long delays, lots of stress

First of all, I don't hate overclockers, I have bought lots of components from them a few years ago. It was only when I last returned to them that they made such and epic mess of my order that I felt compelled to sign up to ciao and write this review. First off the positives. It was good value for money. Now the negatives. One of their staff, broke my shuttle motherboard, as there were now replacements in stock, my entire order was released back ...
...my order was being delayed especially after I had just spent £15 on next day delivery. I had to call up overclockers every other day for 2 weeks, each time they promised delivery "soon" or I even tied them down to a date, but it never arrived. Eventually I go so annoyed I called to cancel, they offered me a 50% bigger hard drive as a good will gesture so I accepted. The next day when it hadn't arrived I called up again, this time it was the replacement, ...

Worst customer support, rude on the phone. Stay clear of them.

Advantages: The website looks good. Guess it's to tempt you to buy
Disadvantages: No after support, horrible people on the phone when they answer it. Products fall apart

Recently purchased 2 western digital velociraptor hard drives from these punks. Only for 1 of them to keep failing. Sent it back to them for testing and then they send it back to me saying there is nothing wrong with it, and charge me £20.27 on my credit card which i did not Authorize. They are rude on the phone "when they answer it" and will do there best to avoid you after you make the purchase. They think they know everything to do with computers, ...

I presume these are there after sales phone support. These punks also hide any negative posts posted on there forums. Dont be fooled by them. There are plenty of other decent online computer part stockist that have excellent customer support and products that work. These cowboys ...
