A lot of comments on my ops and in my guestbook contain subjects along the lines of 'Good to see you writing again' and 'Long time no see!' I will admit that my writing on Ciao has become less than usual, and I do have a big confession to make. No, I'm not secretly writing as 'mbmb11isreallyaplagiarist' on other op sites, and no, I haven't rigged up a webcam in my bedroom and am earning megabucks off of hardcore pay per views - (Hmm, now that's an idea...!!) I have though, found another website (gasp, shock, horror!!) that has recently kept me up into the small hours and has held my undivided ... more

I’ve always been a fan of auctions as you can pick up some real bargains, and I’m always buying stuff online, as it cuts out the hassle of shopping of which I’m not a lover. So when a mate of mine recommended QXL I thought I’d give it a go. QXL is an online auction in which anyone can sell anything (anything legal that is!!!!). Sellers are both individuals and companys so there is a wide range of new and used products available. Selling – To sell anything on QXL you must be credit card registered, this means that when you register to become a member you must give ... more

    Advantages Advantages Get a bargain!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Some bad sellers

Introduction ~~ Internet auctions websites have become quite popular over the past few years and there seems to be more and more auction websites springing up all over the net. QXL is one of the best known British auction websites and in my opinion one of the best. Whether you're after a cheap mobile phone deal, a last-minute holiday, garden furniture or a computer at a rock-bottom price QXL has it. The QXL website ~~ The QXL website is well-designed and the search facility is accurate. On the QXL homepage auctions that have just started and auctions just ending are listed. There is also a ... more

I was introduced to this site via a friend and I am glad I visited it. It’s always a good to browse the site in search of a bargain and if you have something to sell then why not. This is a very good auction site. The site itself is well designed and well presented. It doesn’t take long to get used to how the bidding and selling works. But, first you will have to register to the site, so you can make bids and they can be tracked down and so you can be informed by e-mail. So, I decided to sell my Sony CD walkman valued at about £50 considering the fact I have had it a few years now ... more

Advantages Advantages Get a bargain, variety of products

Disadvantages Disadvantages Risk factor - quality of product? reliability of third party?

We all like to pick up a bargain – there’s something satisfying about paying less for the same product. My bargain hunting on the Internet was mainly confined to searching various online stores, searching for the lowest prices. I then discovered online price comparison sites, such as Shopsmart and Kelkoo. These took the work out of finding bargains myself, as they displayed prices from various shops and showed me the potential saving. This way I was getting new products at a lower price………….next I looked at getting an even lower price, and that is when I ... more

Online auctions have become extremely popular with sites such as Ebay, Ebid and QXL all springing up to allow you to the items you no longer have use for. Ebay is probably the ‘grand father’ and best known of the auction sites, and indeed is worldwide. There are differences between Ebay and QXL which penetrate deeper than the surface colour of the site. So what can you sell on QXL? Basically anything, from DVD’s and video to Antiques and arts to Charity items: There is also an adult or over eighteen section of the site which concentrates on things that you’d expect of an over eighteen site ... more

Advantages Advantages simple search for potential bargains

Disadvantages Disadvantages might have to give credit card detail at the very begining

QXL.com is the British part a pan-European auction company that runs in 13 countries. It’s free to join and the registration process is very simple. You need to give an email address and they will send you spurious junk fairly frequently – so use a spare account rather than your work or main personal accounts. You are given a membership number and you select a username so make sure if you join you keeps these safe! The site itself is adequate. There’s a lot crammed into every page so it can be a bit overwhelming at first. In fact sometimes certain pages are quite slow to load ... more

Advantages Advantages get rid of all those things cloggig up the spare room

Disadvantages Disadvantages same risks as buying anything from the internet

www.qxl.com QXL is a UK based auction site - although there is the equivalent site for various European countries. The basic idea is you place items you don’t want anymore on the site for other people to bid on, and you bid on items that you want - nice and easy. Actually it is nice and easy. You have to register to be able to bid, but this only takes a couple of minutes. If you want to sell, then you have to give your credit card details so that payment can be taken (after all they aren’t going to do it for nothing!!). Bidding couldn’t be easier. Everything is categorised ... more

Advantages Advantages cheap to sell, and without fees to buy, ratings

Disadvantages Disadvantages you get outbid by other customers! :-)

QXL is great for all you would-be Del Trotters. No more running around with your battered old suitcase avoiding the coppers, you can simply sell all your hooky gear online! This is many people's opinion on online auctions, but couldn't really be further from the truth. The truth with QXL is that you can find new and used goods at substantial savings to the high street, and QXL have safeguards in place to make sure you get what you pay for. If you've never used an online auction before, it works like this: there are many goods on offer on QXL from clothes to CDs, from electrical items to golf ... more
