Advantages Advantages Some amazing bargains, mainly safe, secure, well laid out

Disadvantages Disadvantages I suspect that some of what's sold is stolen (I have no proof to back this up though), there's a huge scope for things to go wrong!

QXL is the best auction site in the UK by far in my opinion. It's well laid out, it's insured (if the item you order doesn't turn up) is also very good. I must say I prefered the site before they re-designed it about 6 months ago (when everything was bright orange)- but I don't suppose it makes a big difference! I picked up an Ondigital (tomorrow to be ITV Digital) box 12 months ago for £35, that's £85 below the shop price at the time. However QXL's popularity has led to more bidders, leading to higher prices. Therefore, as I spend a lot of time on QXL and other auction sites I've devised some ... more

Advantages Advantages Good bargains to be had

Disadvantages Disadvantages Cant view goods only pictures

I have been using QXL the auction site for quite some time. Registration is very easy as long as you dont mind giving your credit card details. So far I have purchased items ranging from a computer to a coffee maker and everything has always arrived in very quick time exactly as advertised. The computer purchased was a Pentium 3 450(Packard Bell) with 64 meg of ram ,8.4 GB hard-drive, Voodoo 3 Graphics card, Windows 98SE, Microsoft works and one year warranty that cost me £315.00!! Although this is a refurbished unit you would not know the difference from new and delivery was within three days ... more

Advantages Advantages reach a lot more people than the traditional newspaper

Disadvantages Disadvantages people win auctions then dont actaully buy the item

I have been a lurker/bargain hunter on the QXL site for some time. I have never actually bought anything from it yet. Spotted some bargains but always been out bit unfortunately. However last week when I realised I was strapped for cash this month I decided to try out being a seller on QXL. So I looked through my things and found a portable CD player and a Sega Saturn. So I set up my account and arranged an auction. I took the default time, which is 4 days. Looking back in hindsight that wasn’t that good an idea as that meant the auction ended on a Sunday. I need to look and see when ... more

Advantages Advantages Reaches wide range of potential purchasers, cheap service

Disadvantages Disadvantages Closing the deal isn't always easy - if the purchaser backs out then tough luck

I recently sold a guitar with www.qxl.co.uk and had quite a good experience of this method of trading. I put the instrument at a reserve price of 350 and sold it for 360 - OK, not a massive increase but had I advertised in traditional media, a. it would have cost me quite a bit to place the advert, and b. the offer price would probably be less than the asking price, not more. The offer I accepted was from a chap who worked about 20 minutes away from me (by car) and so I arranged to meet him in a B&Q carpark nearby his office, me with the guitar in the boot and him with the wad of tenners! I ... more

Advantages Advantages Very Easy To Use

Disadvantages Disadvantages There are some small prints

I have been a member of the QXL.com community for over a year now, and would like to share some of my experiences with you so that if you choose to bid in an auction on this site, you know what to expect. Firstly, I will start by saying that I trust QXL. I registered, but chose not to include my credit card details first of all, for obvious reasons. I started by bidding in some smaller auctions, not always successfully at first because I was worried about what would actually happen. As my confidence grew, I started to tinker around a bit, and use things like "Maximum Bid". This is something ... more

Advantages Advantages Great way to buy

Disadvantages Disadvantages didnt get my item

About 8 months ago, I heard about the cokeauctions that were happening online and decided to check them out. They were great! Whe I got on the site, there was a lot of talk about the power behind the site, QXL. Not knowing what it was I decided to check it out. Im really glad I did now as its enabled me to get my new PC online and for about half price. About 3 weeks ago, I tried to purchase a PC online form PC world without much success. Honestly, NEVER use them. Instead I decide to experiment with the online bidding sites. I had heard about them and how good they were from a few friends. I ... more

    Advantages Advantages none

    Disadvantages Disadvantages everthing

I have been 'lured' by emails of 'bargains' from Qxl and have bought 5 items over the past 3 years. I can say nothing other than this is the most disgraceful service I have ever come across on the web. They deserve to go broke and I hope they do. On 11 November 1999 I was successful at buying a digital camera which I bought for £99 at auction from QXL themselves (they were the vendors) . I thought it would make a nice Xmas present for my niece. As Dec 99 arrived I began what turned out be a 'series' of emails to QXL right up to and including Christmas eve. All I would ever receive was ... more

Advantages Advantages easy to use, can find a bargain

Disadvantages Disadvantages spending too much money and it become addictive!

QXL is my favourite on line auction site- in fact I've even managed to convert the office and they're all here bidding now!!! Using QXl is extremely easy, there are many catagories to browse from including: designer clothes holidays cars collectables perfum e sports equipment and loads loads more. Once you have found the item you want to make a bid for - then go ahead - BID!! Before bidding make sure that you register yourself with all the necessaries and enter yourself a username. When placing the bid you will need to enter your username and password first and then just hit the bid button ... more

Advantages Advantages A few bargains to be had

Disadvantages Disadvantages Is your money safe

I initially registered with them as they were advertising the fact that you could get a free cd, there were 6 to choose from and they were all decent titles. So I registered and surprisingly within 2 weeks I recieved my cd. I have yet to buy anything from this site yet but it is not for the want of trying. It seems that my bid is always the highest right up to the last couple of hours when i am mysteriously outbid. Is this a ploy to make me go back and place a higher bid, well if it is it doesn't work as I never do. This is not to say that some of the things on offer aren't a bargain, some of ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent site with all the features.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Spoiled by some site-users and many of the sellers

There are many different types of auction, and in recent years, "Internet Auction" has been added to that list. One of the earlier contenders (in the UK at least) was Quixell, who soon rebranded themselves as "Qxl.com". With this new territory came new problems, and QXL have their fair share. On the other hand, they have an great site and an excellent range of items for sale. >>> The site The QXL site is well laid out, and is updated regularly with shortcuts from the front page to relevent sub-sections, and receives occasional style changes to keep it from stagnating.
