Advantages Advantages Fun, interesting and you get paid

Disadvantages Disadvantages Currently only in London and a few other cities, there is no expense allowance for travel

How long would it take you to earn between £30 and £50 on Ciao? Certainly longer than 1.5 – 2 hours I’m sure! A while ago, I earned £30 for 1.5 hours of my time, met some interesting people, enjoyed myself immensely, ate some good food, gave my opinions and fulfilled one of my (sad) ambitions. I attended a focus group recruited by Saros Research. The purpose of a focus group (or forum or market research discussion) is to elicit opinions from various groups of people on products, brands, advertising, or in this case, about the general feeling following 11th September in relation to the economy ... more

Advantages Advantages Opportunity to earn cash just for your opinion

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not always eligible to attend, not available everywhere

This website is the homepage of a company called Saros. Their main area of activity is in recruiting people for market research discussion groups. Their clients are companies who want to conduct research with consumers or members of the public to get their feedback, idea or opinions on any number of issues. Saros's role is to provide the right people to their clients based on age or gender or are you live in or work experience or product usage etc. They do this by building up a database of people who would be willing to participate in this kind of market research. They capture demographic ... more

Advantages Advantages You can earn up to £50 for 6 months

Disadvantages Disadvantages wait for another 6 months!

Back in August, I was privileged to take part in a research discussion in London at 7.30pm and was paid £50 for two hours work, which included free sandwiches and drinks. On arrival, I was met by the Moderator, signed my signature and was handed a sealed envelope with cash, gawd, I held onto this envelope and carefully put it in my handbag and images began to appear before me on what I was going to spend it on! I was taken into a room where I met eleven other participants of female, ages ranging from 30 onwards to 60. The large heated room was comfortable, there were a dozen chairs surrounded ... more

Advantages Advantages Well organised, well prepared and we were well paid.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Only currently suitable for folk in the London area, or able to get there easily.

The e-mail inviting me to take part in a group interview didn’t come as a surprise. I’ve always been happy to participate in surveys and focus groups. I think it stems from my deep love of ranting. Consequently, I had some time before filled out an online application to join Saros Research. This invitation was the first to arrive from them, and I was looking forward to getting stuck in to a really good group rant somewhere in the Wild West End. Sadly, I was unable to take part in the discussion about UK holidays. I had already been to one of the sites owned by the company sponsoring the ... more

Advantages Advantages easiest 40 quid in my life

Disadvantages Disadvantages I cant do another one for 6 months!

Forget 10p, interesting though Ciao is… last week I earned £40 for my opinions, simply for spending a pleasant evening discussing my shopping habits with an interesting bunch of people in a Market Research discussion group. I think this is the kind of thing also called a ‘focus group’, it was led by a market researcher who clearly had an agenda he wanted the discussion to follow as we looked at various aspects of shopping for the home. It was clear the research was for one of the big supermarket chains, I think they are very competitive at the moment and I guess that’s ... more

    Advantages Advantages Paid market research

Disadvantages Disadvantages up to 2 hours of your time

I have come across a website that pays for your time, to come and give your opinions on other peoples products. You take part in a discussion group, give your opinions on a product for up to 2 hours and you get from £30-50. I have taken part in 3 discussion groups, so this is geniune but not frequnt enough to make a carear out of. It can be jolly good fun in earning some extra cash for an evenings work. This company is still primarily London Based and wants to expand out of London so if you decide to join up it may take a while for them to setup a discussion group in your area. They should ... more

Advantages Advantages Regular focus group e-mail applications, cash payment upon completion

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can only take part once in a focus group with Saros research every 6 months.

This is a research company with a website, and they organise focus groups in London and in other cities. Members can join the website and create an account with ease. I joined in October 2010 and filled out the registration process which took me a few minutes. I then waited for e mail invitations and picked the first one where the company were organising a photocopier focus group in November 2010, and so I accepted the invitation and attended the interview in Central London in a nice office area. Along with about 10 other people we were asked for our thoughts and opinions of a particular ... more

3 Stars Quick review of sarosresearch.com by clarebub 18/09/2007
I have recently joined Saros. I live in kent, which may be one of their "out of areas" so I have not been lucky enough to participate in a group discussion yet. I have heard good feed-back about them and I would be prepared to host meetings at my house too... I would love to know of anyone else in my area that may have travelled to get to a discussion meeting. Clare
