How do I start to extol the virtues of such a fantastic company? First, some background. Since joining the house owning community about 18 months ago, I seem to have spent every weekend (and some evenings) wandering up and down the aisles of every DIY store within a 30 mile radius of the house. Not only am I getting to know the products from every department but also typical prices and even some of the staff! So, although I am not in the trade, I feel I have a pretty good idea of what to look for in a DIY outlet. Apart from a number of telephone calls I have had no direct contact with the ... more

Screwfix first started way back in 1979 when it started as just a small woodscrew supply firm. At the time this was situated on the Pen Mill trading estate in Yeovil.Somerset. The company was then belonged to a gentleman called Colin Brewer. Two years later the company was sold to John and Jenny Goddard –Watts. In 1992 the first ever catalogue with the business name of Screwfix Direct first appeared locally. Although still on the same trading estate they moved to larger premises. In 1998 as orders started rolling in at a great rate and the turnover rocketing, they then expanded too much larger ... more

Advantages Advantages I can choose what I want without looking stupid or girlie!!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages they keep sending me another catalogue

One of the problems i have found with living in 'the house that Jack built'has been the lack of funds to carry out all the work that needs doing. I have tried to prioritise the jobs in order - you know, starting with Dangerous, through Desperate, Irritating and just 'Bloody annoying. Sometimes, though its just so funny or maybe its easier to laugh. I have thought over the past two years that b&Q might adopt me, or at the very least make me a shareholder. But it is obvious they care not a jot for the thousands of pounds they have had from me - so I have moved to Screwfix or rather www.screwfix ... more

Screwfix is one of the best sites for getting not only DIY tools and accessories but also offering a wide and comprehensive range of professional and heavy-duty tools open to the trade and the public. I discovered the site through Internet research. I was looking to buy few bits and pieces essential for redecorating my new house. I had a quick look and saw immediately the extensive list of products they were selling and thought I would never get anything from there, it seemed to turn towards specific items. But I was wrong. After giving a more thorough look, the site had everything I was ... more

Advantages Advantages Very competitively priced, good range of products, free nexy day delivery

Disadvantages Disadvantages Purely functional website, a little lacking in character...or am I being a bit girly?

Until very recently if you'd said the words' Screwfix' to me, I'd had replied Screw What?! Though recently I'd don't know what I'd have done without this hardware company. I've only been ordering from the website, hence the review is for screwfix.com, however I notice they are opening a store in my town and another one not far away soon. Their catalogue popped through my door recently and I've even spotted the odd TV ad. It seems this is company is giving the B&Qs and Wickes' run for their money. The thing about screwfix is it's not only the general public who use them, but tradesmen too. You ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Better for bulk purchases, lacking in delivery tracking area

Wow - what a great site! Not only are these guys cheaper than most high street DIY suppliers but they also have a wider range and deliver to you. I usually rate web-based companies on a few simple criteria: - Delivery (speed & reliabilty). Lots of delivery options, order before 5pm and it's better. Use couriers for deliveries. A little too much packaging for some items. Would be nice to show the net weight of items too, especially if you get them delivered to work and struggle home on the tube with reels of cables! - Price (including delivery cost). Good if you're ordering in bulk, expensive ... more

I have been using screwfix for a couple of months now and apart from once when they were temporarily out of stock of a work bench i wanted have found them to be cheap and very fast at delivering. You can visit them on the web at www.screwfix.com or ring them up and get sent a catalogue which you can browse at your leisure. The freephone number is 0500 41 41 41 or you can write for a catalogue to screwfix direct,FREEPOST,Yeovil BA22 8BF. The list of products they sell is quite impressive, decorating ,electrical, carpentry, power tools the list is endless and the prices I would estimate are ... more

    Advantages Advantages Fast delivery

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor website, broken goods, oh, very poor website

I’ll take a deep breath and I’ll pause. I must say that the silver lining of not being able to access Ciao right now is that I’ve had time to think, re-think, change and then edit this review. Oh, there will be spelling and typing errors though. The changes that I have made are reflections on the cost and on the service of www.screwfix.com. My first thought was, when I opened the package ScrewFix had sent me, was to rush to the Ciao site and submit “ScrewFix Sucks!” in giant ascii letters. I was having trouble finding the exact product I needed and although ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice site, easy to navigate; Quick delivery; Good range of products; Easier than traipsing round shops; No problem exchanging things

Disadvantages Disadvantages Postage expensive if only ordering one item

I was delighted to find Screwfix’s web site recently. I have always liked their products but they can be hard to find, as they are a mail-order-only company. They are actually owned by B&Q, but their products are cheaper than B&Q’s and very good quality. I ordered an Adjustable Band Clamp (for making picture frames) one evening and it arrived within 2 days. It is fantastic value for money. It was a mere £5.99, which is only about £1 dearer than you would pay for a string one. This is made of webbing. It has a nylon handle with a tensioner and two clamps for easy adjustment. The total length of ... more

Advantages Advantages Good prices, excellent service, vast range

Disadvantages Disadvantages Just a few items are sold in bulk

Http://www.screwfix.com I have used Screwfix many times and have never been disappointed. You can order goods online or order a catalogue online and place an order either online, by post or by telephone. Their catalogue has the most comprehensive range of goods I have seen. Usually they offer freebies if you meet their requirements. Postage is made for next day delivery if you meet the deadline and is free if you spend more than £45. Their pricing policy is also hard to beat across the range. Gone are the days now for me travelling to the nearest stockist, getting lost ib the stores and ... more
