Advantages Advantages We love to hate many of them, soaps provide great escapism

Disadvantages Disadvantages I end up watching ALL the soaps just to see my favourites

Internet, soaps, watching Formula 1 – it’s just as well that I have Tzar and Merlin (my Siberian Huskies) to keep me active or I’d suffer from a very large bottom!! I am an avid soap freak and watch many of the soap operas that adorn our television screens. I think that my boyfriend Paul is secretly glad that we’ve lost our ITV Digital coverage or else I’d be spending more hours glued to the box. Over time I’ve started surfing the web whilst having the soaps on in the background, as I didn’t want to choose between the two. Here is my list of favourite soap characters. I devised this list over ... more

Advantages Advantages You can do anything you want with soapland characters

Disadvantages Disadvantages Sometimes they are too far fetched and not true to life

I only watch Coronation Street, Eastenders and Emmerdale so my choices of top ten soap characters come mainly from those three soaps. 10 First of all I'll go back in time to Hilda Ogden of Coronation Street. Married to Stan they lived at number 13, the house now owned by Sally Webster. Hilda’s muriel (mural) and flying ducks were to her status symbols while to others they were a joke. Hilda had barnies with just about everybody in the street, more often than not in defence of her Stan. Sharp tongued on the one hand she showed a soft spot with her lodgers who included Eddie Yates, Curly ... more

This is my favourite subject of soaps and you guessed it I actually asked ask for this category to put up under Ciao Cafe so I thought I had better get round to writing in it so here goes... 1. Den Watts, how Eastenders has gone on for so long without this excellent character and how dare they kill him off!! I really miss him, he was the best Landlord of the Queen Vic and that affair he had with Michelle Fowler resulting in Vicky being born well that was just one of the best storylines in Eastenders to date. Of course he would have been nothing without that drunken wife Angie beside him ... more

    Advantages Advantages All great actors/actresses

Disadvantages Disadvantages Shame when they leave

There's only two soaps I watch - 'Eastenders' and 'Coronation Street'. The rest (and there's a lot of 'em!), I'm not particularly bothered about. I did used to watch 'Home & Away' and 'Neighbours', but watching 4 soaps can be a bit time-consuming. So, I just stick to the 2 main ones on the box now. Therefore, my top 10 characters are from these two. Here we go... 1) KEN BARLOW - CORONATION STREET Is he the longest character in Coronation Street? He's been in it a lot of years, I know. He's gone from being a teacher to a supermarket trolley pusher. He's been married, had girlfriends, been ... more

With some time to kill and distractions mounting, I humbly present my top ten soap characters... 10) Nana Moon (Eastenders) Awwww, Nana Moon. One of the only redeeming things about Eastenders these days. And she only appears once every few weeks. The endearingly loveable batty old pensioner and the one good thing about the Moon clan (can't stand that Alfie, and those gangster brothers are a waste of time). 9) Kathy Mitchell (Eastenders) Gillian Taylforth, the actress who played Kathy Mitchell, must be so relieved that she is rid of Kaffy. She has abandoned the role of the world's most ... more

    Advantages Advantages We love them

Disadvantages Disadvantages Its not real life and we could all become soap obsessed

    10. Charlene Robinson - Neighbours Not much to say about her. Fresh faced Kylie Minogue brought to us back in the 80s when I was a nipper. Frankly, she is Kylie and she was also in love with Jason, both in real life and Neighbours life. We have to repect her for that at least! Lets also not forget that we all got a perm to be like her. And sang. A lot. 9. Dirty Den - Eastenders Back in the day he was a right little love rat and made poor Angie's life hell with his constant cheating and unhusband-like sins. Eventually he was shot by a man holding a bunch of flowers. For 14 years, Sharon ... more

Advantages Advantages They make soap watching more interesting

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Sometimes they leave

As a self-confessed soap addict, I thought I would challenge myself to deciding who my Top 10 characters are. The 10 I have come up with are all currently staring in the shows (Unless I blinked and missed their leaving parties) ... Read on to see why I like them so much!! ~*10 - KATE ELLIS - NIGHT AND DAY*~ (Julie Smith) I couldn't stand Kate when I first started watching Night & Day. She was an evil, conniving little so and so and it made me physically cringe watching her antics. Using poor old Dennis to make Sam jealous made my blood boil and I thought she needed a damn good smack!! Over the ... more

My Top Ten soap characters I’m soap mad especially Eastenders, although Corrie and Emmerdale have a very special place in my heart. They have been around forever. Some of my favorite soap characters are no longer in soaps but they still deserve a mention. Sorry theres no Brookside I cant stand it. 1. Grant Mitchell (Eastenders) This guy has to be one of the sexist characters on the television. The character was brilliant he was as rough as they come with a nice side as long as you didn’t cross him. For years he was in Eastenders as Phil’s brother and the other half of their ... more

Tis An Art To A Good Top 10 Soap Characters….. I was stuck for something to write so I just typed on the old keyboard and the following flowed out, enjoy !! Tracy Barlow played by that sex on legs Kate Ford. I watch Coronation Street just to see this babe in full flow, and she never lets me down. One mean girl with a nasty mouth and a temper that almost matches mine. But it's those sweet lips and those sexy eyes that do it for me. "You sure it's not her long shapely legs Art", "Yeah maybe my friend, maybe"……………….......... Tru Davies played by the stunning Eliza Dushku has to be in my top 10 ... more

Advantages Advantages Loads of them, funny, talented, inspiration

Disadvantages Disadvantages Maybe there's a bit too many to choose from! They leave the soaps too quick!

The deal with soaps is that you either love them or you hate them. You need to follow the stories to understand what is going on, and watch the characters carefully to really feel like you know them! Once you have the hang of who is who, there really is no letting go of the soapies... Choosing just ten top soapstars out of possible hundreds is quite a challenge, but I have narrowed it down! So, in no particular order... 1) Kim Medcalf - Sam Mitchell, Eastenders When I first started watching eastenders properly, on a regular basis, Sam was one of the characters I caught onto almost instantly ... more
