    Disadvantages Disadvantages Frames. Not enough pictures - sounds silly, I know, but I like to see what I'm about to buy.

    There are a host of websites that are falling over themselves with attempts to sell you cheaper books and entice you with good service. I could have decided to make my first on-line purchase of a book from Waterstone’s because it’s a name I trust. I could have made the decision based on the fact that it is a British company, or that I know they’re not likely to go bankrupt on me. If I had made my choice of internet bookseller from first impressions of their webpages then I doubt I would have given Waterstone’s very much time at all. More on that later.     Having just placed and received my first order with Waterstone's I thought I'd review it as I was so pleased with the service . Around Christmas time , when we were out shopping my Hubby spied a country and western book which he fancied for himself . At £ 25 , right on Christmas , it was just a bit too pricey . Lovely book though . Having been a bit flush this month he said he was thinking of buying it . As I recently had joined greasy palm.co.uk I said 'Let's have a browse on the internet and see if it's worth ordering from there instead'.     I have always enjoyed reading, and I read on a daily basis. Now, I have to admit although I love gadgets and gizmos, I refuse to buy into eReaders. I've tried a kindle, and I just don't like it, there is just something about the humble paperback, that just seem to feel right when it comes to reading. Unfortunately, most of the world seems to disagree with me, and over the last ten years my home city has seen most of its bookshops vanish.     I was looking for a book for someone as a Christmas present. Although not a recent book, it's still a popular one, featuring in many of the 3 for 2 offers on in various shops at the moment. Now as a money saver I don't like paying full price for a book that someones only going to read once so I set about searching online. All online prices were cheaper than the instore prices but most were still quite expensive, until I found the book on Waterstones website.     Waterstones.co.uk - an online version of their high street stores. They are similar to other online books sellers, such as Amazon.co.uk, bol.com, etc...however, Waterstones sell mainly books. My opinion of this website is not as good as I would have hoped it would be. Firstly, the website is not the best, and could have been designed better. There are certain loop-holes on the site, which are not too clear for the customer (us), so can discourage us. One thing I wish it had was a confirm screen, before actually proceeding with my order.     Being a big reader, I never expected a problem with the giant company of Waterstones when ordering my books online!NAVIGATING THE SITEUsing the site is easy enough. Its simply laid out with links for all kinds of genres and big-sellers with numerous pictures. It also has a search bar which makes finding a particular author or book really quick! It also makes suggestions on upcoming books to pre-order or even buy for presents (e.g. mothers day suggestions, christmas present suggestions).     A really good book site for anyone wanting to buy books online. However, I did find the homepage a bit difficult to find myself a way around, but the site was quite difficult to navigate. You can buy all the books that are available in the Waterstone book store online and if they haven’t a book in stock if you e-mail them, they will order one for you. The prices are very good about the same as other book stores but delivery is really fast. And their ability to customise excellent.     I tried buying a book from waterstones.com and everything was going really well.... the website is well planned so that it is extremely easy to input your choice of book and where you want the book sent and everything... so happily i ordered a book... got a order number and was told that i would be contacted by email when my book was dispatched A plus point of waterstones.com is that it delivers free to most if not all waterstones branches ie you dont pay p&p a real bonus for poor students like me Anyways, i entered in everything and sat back looking forward to the email that would inform me ... more

    Waterstones is not the best site out there! But that doesn't mean they are the worst either! If it's books you are after then your best option is to use a comparison shopping site i.e kelkoo first. That way you'll find out which site offers you the best deal on the books you want. I have ordered from Waterstones several times though and found them to be largely reliable, the important thing is to look out for special offers! I got some fantastic bargains in one of their sales and managed to find a promo week when shipping was free. Many book sites apply free shipping now and Waterstones is ... more

    Waterstones online is pretty good when you just want to buy a few specific books. It's got an effective quick search, and advanced search facility, and you can store books you are interested in, but don't want to buy straight away in your own personal library. It gives you all the formats and publishers for your chosen book, so you can choose the cheapest edition, or the hardback etc. depending on your preference. The procedure for buying is also quite simple. The good thing is, you don't get distracted by links to other sites, or ad's for unrelated companies or sites. It's just you and ... more
