I stumbled across www.creditexpert.co.uk through a website advert and decided to mosey on over and have a look. For those of you that have never heard of this website or company, they are managed by Experian, one of the two major UK credit reference agencies. Like Equifax, until recently, the only way to find out what was going on with your file was to send off your cheque for £2 with your name and address details for the last 6 years to:

Advantages: You can get a good idea why your credit rating is in the shape it's in. Disadvantages: I honestly can't think of any
After being turned down for yet another credit card, I decided I was going to find out exactly what companies didn't like about me. I visited the Credit Expert website and decided to enrol for the free 30 day trial. (If you want to find your Credit Score too, it costs a extra £4.99 a time. You can view that Credit Score for 30 days.)
Signing up was easy, you are asked to fill in answers to basic questions including where else you've been living ... ...six years or more. Even though the trial is free, you still need to give credit card details and after the 30 day trial (if you choose not to cancel) you pay £49.99 for the year.
After choosing your username and password, you are then told that a PIN will be sent to you through the post and that you would only need to use it the first time you log in. After that it's just straight username, password (and two letters out of your secret word) to get ...

Avoid at all costs. I signed up for the 'free 30 day trial', then telephoned after 7 days to close my account. The telephone operator spoke to me for a few minutes to sort out closing my account, then confirmed that my account had been closed. Two months later, and they are still charging me £6.99 per month. As an additional point, the advice they gave me on my credit rating was completely unhelpful. They could not explain why I was refused a debit ...

Fraudulent use of my details tro obtain a credit report about me.
In short a credit report had been obtained from credit expert in my name without my knowledge. It would appear that someone using my CC details and address were able to do this by quoting my details. The email address given was not mine so I can only assume that Credit Expert sent a report of my credit status to that address.
Worrying this is it not?
This came to my attention by ... ...on receipt I contacted both Credit Expert and Experian who were both either unable or unwilling to help. I aked for details of any report that had been sent to enable me to advise any relevant contacts of this fraud. They refused and said that the best they could do was pass the information on the their fraud department. Well its been over a week now and still no contact from either party. I even sent emails to the CEO and other directors. No response ...

Advantages: Interesting insight into credit profile Disadvantages: Late updating of information leads to inaccurate report.
Whilst the product gives an interesting and useful insight as to your credit worthiness, I have found that there can be significant delays in Experian's ability to update information and so your report might not be accurate when viewed by a querying institution.
For example, I brought one of my credit card accounts up to date in the second week in August 2008 and monitored my report to see when the 'satisfactory' status would be reflected. After ... ...been forthcoming so I assumed that the financial institution concerned would provide an end of month update file to Experian. At the end of the first week of September 2008 there was still no update so I contacted Experian who told me that they were reliant on the financial institutions providing them with the information and that once received, they checked it for accuracy then applied the update. I suggested that they receive the information at ...

Quick review of www.creditexpert.co.uk
I have been using "Credit Expert" for 12 months or more. I have always paid £5:99 per month by debit card for their services. I was puzzled when I received an email from them advising that my card payment had been declined by my bank so my membership with them had been cancelled. However, if I re-entered my card details they would be happy for me to re-join. On closer scrutiny I noticed that if I did this I would be charged £6:99 per month from now on, not my usual £5:99 per month. Alarm bells rang, my bank had not declined my card, I checked. This was a "stealthy" move by "Credit Expert" to levy a price increase. I will not be using their services again! ...

WARNING. Watch out for an organisation called Credit Expert, they are no better than internet scammers. Do not under any circumstances use their website. They wil con you. They are no better than thieves. I only wanted to find out if somebody had CCJs against them. Having looked at several sites one of which was Creditexpert and seeing that I would be charged and have to give personal bank details I abandonned what I was doing. The next bank statement I received confirmed that Creditexpert had SCAMMED £6.99 from my French bank account and were planning to do the same every month. They have managed to do this from my internet address and by whatever other information they hold. LEAVE WELL ALONE. ...

I would not recommend this service. although the data that is given is useful, before the end of my free try i contacted them to cancel my membership. I was told at the time that my membership ad been cancelled and i would not be charged. I have since contacted them regarding this and was told that i had no proof that i had phoned up to cancel and that i would not be refunded the amount.
My advice don't use this company it seams to me that they make there money taking some money of everyone in the hope people cant be bothered to claim the "relatively" small amount. For a service aimed at people looking out for there financial health this is unacceptable. ...

Advantages: None.. Disadvantages: Criminals.. Avoid like the plague..
This organization, although on the face of it provide a useful service, are in fact veering on criminal in their billing methods. What creditexpert.co.uk purport to do ascertain your credit rating for free during the course of a 7 day trial. What they actually do is: 1) Sell your details to any previous creditors you may owe money to. 2) Charge you every month, based on withdrawals made from the account you give them to test for a credit rating. ... ...and in their terms and conditions attempt to exclude themselves from Consumer Protection Law. I am sure however their policies will be found illegal if tested in any court. I suspect creditexpert are also affiliated with various credit providers (in particular Marks and Spencer’s...another less than reputable organisation) which (informally) recommend and promote Credit Expert. ...

Advantages: If you need to sort out your credit record, you need the information to address the problem Disadvantages: too easy to get caught in monthly payments through idlel curiosity
I signed up for a free trial of Credit Expert from Experion and must admit that all I saw was the free offer.
There were the usual pages of T&C in legalistic language. I was in a hurry, so failed to spot that they take nearly £7 off you every month after the trial unless you stop it by telephoning them. I completely forgot to cancel. And as I was more familiar with the name Experion, I later didn't connect Credit Expert debits with the free trial ... ...at my record, I didn't use the service. I have now cancelled, but am considerably out of pocket. The telephone contact (you can only cancel by telephone) said it was obvious that I hadn't used the service and in that case I should get a refund. But I have been refused. What I object to is that they bury the money side in a load of T&C then just state you agreed to the T&C. They didn't send me a notification that they were going to start debiting ...

Advantages: Information is obtainable and easy to read Disadvantages: There are hidden charges in the 30 day "Free" period. BEWARE.
The "Free" 30 day offer that credit expert is offering is not as free as they would like you to think. I am not foolish, but disapointingly I fell into the trap of wanting to read my "National Credit Score". The advisory says that it will cost £5.95, but nothing to indicate this is not included in the 30 day free offer. I clicked on it two times in a three day period, as if I needed to check that a 999 score could reduce so dramatically! 2 x £5.95 ... ...no use, they can only read from the Credit Expert "bible", and rather blithely inform you that the small print is there. This is how they make their money in the 30 day free period. It is very misleading. Don't expect any sympathy or common sense if you call to resolve the situation. My membership ended that day. ...
