    Yahoo.com has more than just news information etc, it has all the features of a typical web host but the real reason of this opinion is yahoo chat. It offers its own version of MSN, AOL and ICQ, registered Yahoo’ers can download a simple messenger which is very similar to those listed.     We got our computer (second hand) back in April/May of this year and immediately downloaded Yahoo Messenger, a must to use in all Yahoo Chat Rooms. You can log on under as many aliases as you wish. Once logged onto the system there are a number of categories for you to enter ie: Teens, Romance and Relationships, Music etc. You can enter the chat rooms in two different ways. If you have downloaded Yahoo Messenger you can enter via this way (which we found was the easiest) or via the web but you need Java enabled to see the chat window and to see who is in the room with you.     Being from the UK signing up with Yahoo.com maybe wasn't the smartest idea I ever had, however it was 12 years ago when I signed up, I was young and naive. I mainly used Yahoo.com for the email account that you get, it's a free account that gives you a lot of storage. It's a webmail service which means that your mailbox is online and as such requires no space on your hard-drive, but you have to be online to access your emails.     Way back in the mists of time (1995 to be precise) two Stanford students, David Filo and Jerry Yang, set up a search engine called "Jerry's Guide to the World Wide Web". It wasn't really a search engine as such, just more a categorised guide to the net. As happened with such things, it went commercial and rebranded Yahoo because the founders liked.the definition of Yahoo which was as a rude, unsophisticated, uncouth person.     I love chatting online, with friends and family, as it's a good, cheap, easy way to communicate with people who are either miles away, or it's too expensive to ring them. Yahoo! chat was the first chat room that I began to use, and it's a bit naff and tacky, but does the job. Apart from the weirdos online of course. You can either access Yahoo! chat through the internet off www.uk.chat.yahoo.com, or by downloading yahoo! messenger off the website at www.yahoo.co.uk.     I have been using Yahoo Chat for just over a year now and I think it is great! It is really simple to set up a chat id. Just fill in your details and find a chat name that isn't already being used by someone else. This can actually take a long time if you are going for obvious names. Although Yahoo will suggest alternative versions of what you are after by suggesting you add the current year or UK to the end of it. There is a profile for every id or alias you set up.     Yahoo messenger is a messaging system that lets you text and talk at the same time. I first downloaded yahoo messenger about 3 years ago and have never looked back. After many upgrades, all free might I add, I use messenger to stay in touch with many friends I have made online. THE DOWNLOAD The download is very simple as you just go to yahoo home page (www.yahoo.co.uk) and click on the link there for messenger.     I was introduced to Yahoo messenger by a friend and I have to say I'm hooked. I have spent hours chatting to my friends on it. I like the fact that it's difficult to get spam (unlike ICQ) and you can ignore people if they happen to have p****d you off. The software is very easy to use and understand, pretty small to download (if you need to, I've got the 'doze version included with my modem's drivers which is pretty nifty I think) and the website makes installation self-explanatory.
