Yell.com was originally designed to be an electronic version of the yellow pages. For me, trying to find a hairdresser, it is indispensable, since in St Andrews, shops and businesses play musical chairs with alarming regularity. Every week one closes and re-opens elsewhere, some go for good, and there are always new places opening up. It’s like that with hairdressers – my old one had gone, so I needed to find a new one, ... ...not easier, to use. Yell.com gets a thumbs up from me on this point. The site is presented in a very clear way, using only the colours yellow, blue, black and white, which makes it easy on the eye. Navigation is simple and it is very easy to search for the type of business you are after. Into the box marked “what?” you type in the type of business – in my case, hairdressers, or if you are after a specific name, then you can type ...

...business is already listed on Yell.com and he has only been trading for a very short period of time!
There are a number of other services available via Yell, a Yell mobile service (which I have yet to use) and you can have Yell text you the nearest taxi, pizza place, hotel, etc., in reply to a simple text message! And you can have the details of a business sent to a mobile phone, too, though you need to be logged in for this service. Text charges ...

Advantages: Fast, easy search for phone numbers Disadvantages: None
Fast national yellow pages even quicker than finding the piece of paper where you wrote down the number down before. This is the best resource for commercial telephone numbers with business lines in the UK. The page loads up nice and quick and the interface is simplicity itself. Fill two of the three boxes and hit the search button for quick result. The first box is labelled ‘1. What?’ this is for the Yellow Pages category but who the hell knows ... ...of the company. But the categories don’t need to be complete for example, TAXIS AND PRIVATE HIRE VEHICLES but any unique part of it can be used for example, TAXIS. The second box is labelled ‘or Who?’ this is used instead of the first box if you know even a part of the company name that you want the number for. For example, for Pronto Cars you enter the whole name or either of the words in the company name. The third box is labelled ‘2. Where?’ this ...

Advantages: see text Disadvantages: site can be slow so check out the site
This is a great directory if you want to look up something quick and local. It’s easy to follow, and there’s a lot of people who use it to advertise so you should find most of the companies in it. I am sure we’ve used the Yellow pages for car insurance there’s literally hundreds of motor insurance companies, which are worth checking out. Take my advice, ring them all (well the free numbers) you will find what that is cheap ... ...home/pet/travel/life insurance. I have used the Yellow pages to book halls, look up garages for car exhausts, and I think it’s a really good offline directory which is easy to use. They have a good selection of categories and I’m sure they’ll have that suits you. It’s really good for looking up businesses and has all the numbers that you might want. You get a yellow pages free and it’s normally left outside your house, ...

Advantages: Lists all UK businesses, easy to use Disadvantages: doesn't sort results alphabetically, banner adverts
How many times have you picked up your yellow pages and had to leaf through looking for a plumber, builder, electrician etc. I bet you've lost count. It has become a necessary book to have near your phone.
This is basically what the online version is, except that instead of loads of books covering different areas it's all compiled into one site. It's a very easy site to use although it can be slow during the day, probably because of office workers ... ...site, labled FOR YOU and FOR YOUR BUSINESS. I only use the For YOU section, because I don't own a business, but I have browsed it the first time I went.
When you first visit the site you are presented with a yellow bar near the top of the screen, which houses three text boxes. This is the beginning of your search. Type what type of business you are looking for in the first box (or if you are looking for a specific company use the middle box) and ...

Advantages: Quick, good design Disadvantages: Not all businesses
Actually pretty useful site. it doesn't have all business but it is pretty good.
It's very quick - which is good. because looking through the yellow pages sometimes can be very boring.
You type in What it is you want like a hotel, golf course etc. or Who? - which is where you know the name of the company , and then Where? - in Wrexham , Cambridge - anywhere.
It has a WAP site, and also has separate sites for Cinema, Property, Shopping.
It also ...

Advantages: excellent all rounder Disadvantages: can take time to find your stuff
There are times when things go wrong, or you need someone fast! By almost every phone in britain is a fat yellow book packed full of usefull numbers and addresses. It has had many tv adverts about it and is the biggest directory in Britain! Not surprisingly, as the world trundles on into the computerised generation, the yellow pages has hitched a ride on the technological bandwagon and gone onto the net!
*first impressions*
The site appears clearly ... ...banner at the top of the page. The main block is split into 2 sections. For You and For Your Business. Here you have the capability of searching the pages, or adding yourself to them! The page is easy to understand and yet still capures the classic yellow pages feel.

Yell is the online yellow pages for the UK. This is a very handy site indeed. The search facility is excellent and will allow you to find details of just about any business in the country. One complaint that I have is that it used to be a totally focussed site, but it now carries all sorts of banners and links to other sites, which makes it a little bit more confusing. I am not going to complain about that too much though, because it is still a great ...

Advantages: Simple to use and effective Disadvantages: Too many adverts on page
Yell is a simple service and as such an excellent one. It is simply The Yellow Pages (UK business telephone directory) on the net.
Its functionality is limited , but remember what you want out of it is limited (ie a single phone number or an address).
You have the option of selecting a business type or name, plus a location. If Yell is unsure of a location it will prompt you for alternatives. Often you will know who you are looking for, and it ... ...in Newcastle). You also have the option of searchinfg for businesses (ie dentists in Newcastle) and it will list all the ones that it finds. You are given the opportunity to sort them alphabetically.
Where a result is not found you are given the option to zoom out of the area, ie Newcastle to Tyne & Wear to England to the UK.
Another useful feature is that you can see a map of where the business is located, and if applicable their website is often ...

Advantages: Quite a lot of listings Disadvantages: Not everyone is covered, especially small regional businesses
...these reasons I presumed that Yell.com would be perfect for me. I found this not to be true.
Yell list a lot of people, and do so in a way thats makes it easy enough to find them. The problem is that they do not list everyone, and at the same time the internet is quite slow.
In practice it is quicker, and more reliable, to use the phone and ring a directory service. ...
Advantages: your get noticed Disadvantages: abit expensive
...First up though its yell.com and no eyp.com which it seems to be suggested here.
For a basic website with one picture, logo and 250 words then it will costs you £150. If you want your own domain name www.yourcompany.co.uk that will cost you an extra £50.
If you already have a website and just want to place a link on yell.com then it will cost you $190.
If you have a business already in the yellow pages book then it means you will have a listing ... ...in more business.
Your business I think will only get seen on yell.com if you have a website and that your business doesn't have tons of other companies with it for example builders...the list is endless. If you are a mobile dj or something then you will get noticed. ...
Advantages: Quick, Maps are given if needed Disadvantages:
Excellent page! If you know what business you want and the general area where it is located then it is so quick and simple to use, and will even give you a customisable map to show you where it is.
If you only know what service you want in a certain area then it certainly save time over flicking through the dusty copy of the yellow pages that is lying around your house somewhere! All they need now is a version to list the websites you really want ...
...The links on this site are quick and accurate. ~On yell.com you waste little time filtering out the poo information and can get down to some quality searching. I would visit this sit if you are looking for the best ues of time and the most fun. ...
