Revs magazine. Yes, the name again points towards the boy racer but it takes all of the good points and takes out the bad ones. What’s on the front page? Modified cars. No Jordan, no free ‘Bass Choons’ CD and no cheesy stickers to ruin your car with. This is a magazine that is aimed at those who like to modify their car but without making it look like a complete mess.

Now on to the funny ...
...can.

Revs is here to give us ideas, to show us what other owners have done and even the adverts are specifically targeted to make you aware of just where you can get hold of the parts you need.

So how does the magazine break down (in to those nice bite size chunks)?

Cars:
The whole point of the magazine. The front cover will as always give you a rough idea of what you can expect to find ... more

Revs per minute, revs per month

Advantages: How To guides, well put together.
Disadvantages: Not for beginners.

Revs is the hands-on version of Max Power. Brought to you by the same people, EMAP publishing, Revs is more about showing you how to do it yourself. How to fit nitrous, how to fit a bodykit, how to mesh a grille, you get the idea. The cars are more Fast Car than Max Power, but that doesn't subtract from the feel of the magazine, which is quality. The magazine has finally undergone an overhaul. This has brought the one major problem with Revs to ...
...garage. The fact that Revs is a show-you-how, hands-on type of magazine is it's strength and it's weakness. It is the only magazine on the market to show you how to do at-home conversions, and so it is really good for those who like to get their hands messy. Me, I prefer waving a chequebook in someone's face and getting the subsequent warranty, and so a lot of the magazine is not of any immediate use. Having said that, I am sure that I will find ...

Quick review of Revs

Sadly this magazine, as from 2005, is now closed. Thanks for all the effort put in by the editors, journalists and photographers for creating a very special product, but particular thanks go to Jim Blackstock who started the whole sheebang - back in the day, cheers Jim. ...

LANDROVER FREELANDER 2.0L TD4 STATION WAGON

Advantages: Great towing vehicle and command of the road
Disadvantages: none!

We decided to purchase our Freelander as we needed a suitable towing vehicle (we have a caravan). We had previously towed with a Ford Mondeo and found that a little sluggish and uneconomical. We also wanted a diesel engine rather than petrol again for the extra mileage and endurance that they provide. We have now put it to the test and having towed our caravan successfully would recommend it as the ideal towing vehicle. We found that we barely went above 3000 revs and motored along steadily at 50-60 mph. We were able to load most of our luggage into the caravan as we were well inside the permitted towing weights and the boot provided enough space for those things which we needed to hand. ...

The Ford Focus St170

Advantages: Great Looking, Sounds Amazing
Disadvantages: Fuel Drinker

Haivng owned a 1.6 focus which I had no problems with whatsoever I decided to treat myself to the focus st170. Firstly I must say that its one of the best "hot hatches" for looks, its very understated and doesn't say oooo look at me and my boy racer car! which is important, you are not tainted with the same brush as those young kids. The engine noise is beautiful and purrs when doing 2000 revs up to 8000 revs. The car slugs a little in low revs which is perfect for town but get it opened up in the coutryside or on the motorway then the fun begins. 6th gear on the motorway is fantastic, having the smoothness to cruise and when needed the poke to overtake middle laners. The interior is nice with leather trim with cloth blue inserts and add to the sportiness of the car. The white photoluminescent dials look fantastic and in ...
