No more clumpy rice!
Advantages: Cooks great rice every time Disadvantages: Has dinted quite badly with normal use
...I don't own any other breville appliances - bar a 20 year old sandwich toasters, but I would buy one in future. You can of course stick to using a boiling a pan full of water - but actually a rice cooker has been more useful than I thought it would be, I don't think I could do without one. So is that rice as good as that I remember - yes it is - but I like to think my chilli is a big improvement on the 70's experience - sorry mum!

From an eastern perspective
Advantages: cooks rice perfectly Disadvantages: not multi functional
Before talking about this Kenwood rice cooker, I would like to talk about cooking rice from an eastern perspective.
Growing up in the Far East, it is hard for me to imagine why a lot of western people boil rice in large quantity of water and throw the water away (I know rice is cooked differently in places like Italy or Spain but I'm not going into that). Our mothers always told us that by doing the above, all the flavour and nutrients are gone ... ...looked around and bought this Kenwood rice cooker. This can cook up to 6 cups of rice, which means 12 portions.
The rice cooker comes in 3 parts. Outside is a white ceramic type of pot with a round metal right in the centre at the bottom, which is the heating devise. Inside is a non-stick bowl where you put the rice in. Finally, it's the glass lid which you can see through. The cord is not detachable.
To cook rice, you first use the cup to measure ...

dont buy a slow cooker if you love food
Advantages: you can leave it unattended for hours Disadvantages: poor flavour, over cooks meat
i recently bought a morphy richards slow cooker (on recommendations from various websites) and i have to say if you really love cooking you wont like using a slow cooker or the results . if however you are very busy and need the convenience of food being cooked while you are out at work or shopping then you will probably find the results acceptable.
Personally i dont like cooking in the morning, just a personal thing i know but you have to start ... ...cooking you are not supposed to lift off the lid because all the heat goes out and you have to extend the cooking time. So how do you taste it and alter it or improve it if you can't take off the lid. My main problem with it is that although it makes the meat tender it all ends up half boiled / half steamed and lacking in a concentration of flavour that cooking in the oven in a cast iron casserole dish provides. Its the slow equivelant of cooking ...
