...Selling To Win by RichardDenny
When I tell people that I work in a bank, the natural image that springs to the mind of most is a local HSBC: Customers patiently queuing in line, an array of cashiers willing to serve, and general banking activities taking place all around. When I describe my place of work as an office, with no cash on the premises and without a current account facility, it’s easy to understand why people see me as a salesman rather than a bank employee.
My business cards acknowledge me as a Customer Account Manager. It sounds posh, but in real terms, I am a salesman, and it’s my job to sell loans.
When I first joined the company, a little under a year ago, there was a copy of a book called “Selling to win” hanging around the office. A quick flick through showed it did what it said, and that it was a sales...

Advantages: Easy read, hard to put down, alternative view from the usual Disadvantages: Points could summarised better in certain areas
...Egotistical, arrogant and ruthless are three words which spring to mind after reading the manner in which Dennis approaches business.
The declaration that employees are only useful for two years due to a diminishing rate of productivity shows the hard line approach in which Dennis governs his business. Pride and stubborness are also two unfavourable characteristics which Dennis oozes of throughout the narrration of his life to date.
Yet, despite all the character faults displayed by Dennis he still comes across as a very astute, intelligent and, at times, likeable character. As the book takes its path the reader becomes drawn into a feeling of sympathy for a man's shallow pursuit of money, irresponsible substance addiction and wasted time in failing to appreciate the more subtle qualities in life.
A fascinating read for anyone...

Advantages: Beautiful strips from the 40s & onwards! Disadvantages: Ugly modern front cover. Ouch.
...If you judged this book by it's cover, you'd say it was an awful, third rate, cheapo book based on the antics of Dennis the Menace and his faithful sidekick Gnasher, drawn in the typically poor 21st Century Beano style. That's what I thought. But I was wrong - thankfully.
I picked this book up and thumbed through it - to my delight, it was full of strips from the 1940s right through the to the late 80s - the golden age of the Beano! But it isn't just Dennis the Menace strips - there's also other stuff from the Beano, Dandy, Topper, & Beezer. Sure, they're just cheap reprints of old stuff, but the book is enormous - like a telephone directory (well, almost!).
I think that the Beano and Dandy have declined terribly since their 50th anniversary issues, way back in the early 90s. The paper is now glossy and horrible - the artwork...
