Advantages: Good introduction to the topic Disadvantages: Author's bias against Germans

The book has been intended as an introduction to the topic for people who have little knowledge of the air forces of the First World War. It does a good job of this, with very little technical language used, and the technical language that is used is generally explained well.
It keeps the readers interest by looking at the history of many of the great pilots, and their leaders throughout the war.

...This is my favourite book by Richard Laymon. It contains all the usual excitement, suspense, blood and gore. The story is written in the form of a journal. We know everything that our "hero" Rupert thinks and does but all we know about the other characters is what Rupert knows. The story is excellent. If you have liked any other books by Richard Laymon, you will love Island. It's a definite must read! If you want to read a Richard Laymno book for the first time, I would recommend Island. It was the first one I read and made me an instant Laymon fan....

Original Idea Review ofOne Rainy Night - Richard Laymonby
Claire102
Advantages: Exciting Disadvantages: Nothing special
...One Raniy Night is an average Richard Laymon horror book. The story is about “black rain” that falls on a town and makes everyone it touches evil. The book is well written but it lacks whatever it is in other Richard Laymon books which makes them so exceptional. The full potential of the storyline was not reached but overall it was still a very entertaining book. I would recommend it to any Laymon fans but if you are looking to read Richard Laymon books for the first time you would be better to go for one of his others (preferably a more recent one) such as Island, Body Rides or Quake before reading this one....
