sensor and a wide-angle lens (28 mm), the Caplio R7 takes digital photography to a higher level. Retaining the best features of its predecessor, the Caplio R7 further enhances the series' reputation by adding a dual retractable-lens system and a powerful 7.1x zoom, so you can take photos of anything you choose. Its CCD-shift vibration correction function and ISO 1600 sensitivity work together to compensate for camera shake and low lighting conditions, ensuring excellent results. Its Smooth Imaging Engine III reduces the noise that can occur when taking photos in high sensitivity mode, without any loss in quality. The Caplio R7 also has a 2.7? LCD screen, making it easy to monitor your shots, and a host of advanced built-in functions, including the ADJ (adjust) button, which corrects exposure, a set of intuitive image editing modes, a face-detection feature and a number of scene modes. The Caplio R7 comes complete with a battery, allowing you to take up to 300 photos, and is set to continue the success of the Caplio series!

camera format) mounted on a slim body only 20.6 mm at its thinnest point, the Caplio R7 takes digital photography to an even higher level of image quality. The new Caplio R7 is the successor to the award winning Caplio R6 (launched March 23, 2007), which earned high recognition for its slim body, wide-angle zoom lens, vibration correction, and face recognition mode. Retaining the best features of earlier models, the Caplio R7 further enhances the line?s established reputation for high image quality with the introduction of: (1) Smooth Imaging Engine III, a new image processing engine capable of even more sophisticated image processing, and (2) an effective 8.15 megapixel CCD for outstanding results. In addition, the Caplio R7 achieves a variety of other evolutionary advances in fun and easy photography with enhanced usability for its unique ADJ. (Adjust) button function, which makes it easy to set exposure compensation and white balance. The introduction of brightness and colour-tone functions allows still image brightness and colour-tone to be adjusted in the camera after the picture is taken.

Advantages: great image quality from a tiny camera! Disadvantages: noisy lens mechanism due to it being such a big lens in such a small body
Picked this up nearly 3 months ago now as my third compact digital after having a kodak for my first then a canon IXUS 500 after that.
I also shoot with a Canon EOS 300d so was looking for great image quality, and a general upgrade from my IXUS.
I went for the R7 because it starts up and shoots so fast its perfect as a little point and shoot. The zoom level is brilliant and I don't even use digital zoom.
As far as settings go its got all that ... ...then for the more advanced users the array of custom options are far beyond any compact digital I have used in the past. Its even got manual focus!
I've not really found any faults with the camera so far, it does everything I need and more, looks really cool and is really easy to use. ...

Advantages: optical zoom, macro, stylish, not expensive, speedy Disadvantages: Some features are not very effective
The Ricoh Caplio R7 was released in August 2007. This camera has an amazing 7x optical zoom ( basically how much it can zoom when capturing an image) which is an exceptional amount considering it's size and price. It also has 8 megapixels along with a 2.7 inch screen with 230k pixel resolution. It weighs161 grams (including battery) and is very compact, you would really notice it in your bag or your pocket. One of my favourite features is the 'Vibration ... ...but this doesn't actually very successful. This is a point and shoot camera so it doesn't have as many exposure contrals as there could be in othe camera. Another anti shake system is the 'camera shake correction' ( compensates for camera shake) which can also double up as an anti-blur feature. The 1cm Macro setting allows it to focus on very small object or detailed closeups, this is a very attractive feature. The Settings are very user-friendly ...
