Advantages: Price and Speed Disadvantages: Support Documentations
With the SP C222DN, Ricoh has entered the market of low cost color laser printers. However with the cutting of post, the quality has also gone down. The print performs decently but not up to the mark.
The problems start as soon as you begin the installation process. There is a huge guide which has all the necessary details. The instructions are pretty clear. At first, you are asked to move to the -'Software Installation guide' for network connection.
You are supposed to get the next set of instructions here, however these instructions are difficult to understand and inadequate. Some very important steps and key points are missing. Along with the printer, you get a CD which contains details about the USB installation. This make things tough as the USB details are only in the CD and thus not easily available. The remaining documents ...
Advantages: Economic when bought, great intro to SLR Disadvantages: Outdated now
for constant battery charging and replacing that make digitals annoying when you spot something that demands a photograph right away.
I've used all kinds of 35mm film in the Ricoh and have a preference for bulk Ektachrome, rolled on in small quantities.
Producing one's own slides from such film in a little developing tank, gives an insight to the photographic process that is a learning curve all of its own.
The camera is heavy by modern standards - but just convince yourself that weight is quality in this type of situation.!
It has the usual facility for tripods, and flash, and all the range of colour and special effects filters.
This is the system that allows for real creativity - not just standard digital alteration.
I use the digital snappers very happily - see review on FujiPix 610 - but that Ricoh was photography as real art.! ...

Manufacturer's product description
Ricoh launched the Ricoh GX3000SF desktop color multifunction product (MFPs). The first MFP to utilize the GelSprinter technology, this device combines the quality and performance of laser printing with the convenience of an inkjet and the vivid color customers have come to expect from GelSprinter products.Designed to meet the end user's document management needs, the MFP incorporates color copying, printing and scanning into a compact system. At 29 pages-per-minute (ppm) for both color and black & white, users can print and copy jobs quickly. As with all GelSprinter products, images are crisp and bold using pigment-based inks that are waterproof and sun-resistant, making it ideal for real estate marketing materials, student handouts, construction plans as well as a variety of business documents. An ideal fit for small-to-medium offices, organizations benefit from the low total cost of ownership with features such as the Level Color Mode, which reduces ink density up to 35 percent for graphics and images without affecting the text's readability. This mode makes color cost-per-page the same or less than black & white. To add further value, the GX3000SF delivers superior quality on normal copy paper. In addition, the viscous-ink cartridges used in this MFP offer higher yields than other dye-based ink cartridges to reduce cost-per-page, and the printhead never needs to be replaced. The GX3000SF makes managing and distributing documents quick and easy with user-friendly features such as the optional 100-Sheet Multi-Bypass Tray, which handles a wide range of paper stocks and sizes. In addition, errors are quickly and efficiently resolved via Ricoh's @Remote monitoring function. The @Remote system proactively sends e-mail notices to administrators when supplies are running low to minimize wait time.
