My Ricoh MP7200A
It is an ATAPI Internal model CD RW drive with the following specifications: 20x10x40x. Personally I have used it for about 1 year, and I think it is a tough and nice one. This CD RW drive is packed with Nero Burning ROM 5.0, and it cost me about Rp 1,500,000 (about GBP 100) and todays’ price is about Rp 1,200,000 (about GBP 80).
It works well with most personal computers nowadays. ... ...just an additional information, this Ricoh MP7200A - comes with a comprehensive manual and easy to understand, even for a beginner. Then as I have mentioned before, this CD drive is also accompanied with a burning utility, Nero 5.0 - and the manual of the Nero is a nice one, too.

Having a compact disc writer is a good idea though there are many alternatives available to record or keep data. The common efficient and easy ones of devices to keep data are a floppy disc and a compact disc (CD). These two devices might be common alternatives for us to keep our data. Which one is better?
Some considerations
First of all, let’s compare the price of a floppy disk with the price of a compact disc (CD). The prices of both devices almost figure out the same number. As the second consideration, the endurance of a CD to keep data is much better than the endurance of a floppy disc. And the last one, the data storage capacity of a CD is much higher than a floppy disc has. These comparisons have proved that using a CD gives more advantages.
Having a CD writer is more expensive, isn’t it?
Okay, though the first investment to have our data transferred onto a CD is more expensive (if it is being compared with investment on having a floppy drive and or the others), I am sure it is still advantageous. The price per megabyte of the data space of each device should be one of our main considerations.

It works well with most personal computers nowadays. However, I think I should inform you the system requirements based on its manufacturer’s recommendation. (1) The central processing unit / processor is suggested to be Pentium-2 300MHz or above. (2) At least 64MB of memory attached on the system and more is better. (3) Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME/NT should be one of the operating system. (4) Disk space of 100MB or over. (5) +12V or +5V voltage switches.

Just Link
I purchased this Ricoh because it offered a Just Link technology, a nice burning feature with a reachable price. What is it, then? Well, in case the data transfer cannot catch up during the writing process, the buffer under run errors will occur. This error has always been major concern for most CD RW drive users. Just Link is a new technology developed independently by Ricoh that automatically prevents buffer under run errors by predicting them before they occur. This technology enables stable writing in the following situations where buffer under run occurs may otherwise occur in a conventional drive.
Knowing the nice specifications, especially its outstanding features, I encouraged my self to have this one, and till now – I am satisfied with its good performance; in brief, I always succeed in burning my data and or my favourite albums for my backups and personal use only.
Some Tips
To keep your CD RW drive in a good condition, try to avoid using the drive for watching films, playing your albums or playing games.
Be selective before using your CD RW, especially if you have just one CD drive. In this case, it is assumed that you have just one CD drive and love making backups, you must be careful to see the source CDs. If you see there are a lot of scratches on the surface of a CD, just leave it and don’t use it on your CD RW drive.
It is advisable for you to buy another ordinary CD drive as the drive to read your source discs if you love burning CDs or doing other activities that require reading a CD directly on your CD drive.
Try to follow the hot news of burning your CDs in order to know the better software. Currently I prefer using my Nero Burning Rom and CloneCD as the burning utilities.
Finally, as my conclusion, using a better CD RW drive and using the right burning utilities, it is one of the factors that determines the result of burning a CD.
Thank you for reading, and may it be helpful for you.
Advantages: Fast, No Buffer Underruns Disadvantages: Possible inaccurate detection of media speed?
...5-6 minutes is typical. The Ricoh features "Just Speed" which looks at the media and "suggests" a maximum burn speed. This sounds like a good idea, but I have a spindle of 16 speed rated disks and the drive suggests 12 speed. I thought what the heck, turned the feature off and have written a dozen disks without a problem (it seems a shame not to use full speed!).
Just-link is also included, this stops the drive from suffering from inadequate data ... ...and would have suffered from an underrun, the supplied Nero software tells you how many times it saved you. I haven't had a single failed write yet.
I've not used the packet writing software also supplied (InCd) much yet, but it seems to do what it says on the box. ...
