"A humerous comedy perfect for Kevin Hart and Ice Cube"

Ride Along (DVD)

Ride Along (DVD)

Introduction

Ride Along was another one of those movies I had no idea was being released, or had already been released, until I saw it in Sainsbury’s on DVD for £5. Being a fan of comedy movies, Ice Cube and the famous comedian Kevin Hart, I had to buy it. It proved to be a great purchase, and a more entertaining movie than anticipated. I have since seen the reviews and ratings for this film and feel they are a little harsh. It is not advertised as a ground-breaking masterpiece, simply another entertaining comedy, featuring some big names. It’s definitely not my favourite movie, nor did it cause me any great excitement, but it certainly made me laugh and was worth the fiver. If you enjoy light-hearted, slightly rude and crude comedies, Ride Along will undoubtedly make you chuckle; so long as you’re not expecting an incredible, mind-blowing piece of comedic genius.
The Plot

Ride Along is centered around two main characters, Ben, a security guard, ('''Kevin hart''') and Ben's girlfriend's brother, James, a veteran cop ('''Ice Cube'''). Ben has spent the last two years trying to win James' approval, and prove himself to be worthy of James's sister's love. After Ben is finally accepted into the police academy, James decides its time to put ben to the test, by taking him on a ride along, on an ordinary shift. As you can imagine, things take an unexpected turn, and dangerous yet hilarious events unfold; all the while Ben is comically 'running his mouth', exacerbating the already life-threatening situation. Needless to say, Ben and James end up involved with the cities most notorious criminal, and manage to get themselves in some pretty sticky situations.

Personally, I loved the soundtrack to this movie, as I felt it did exactly as intended by the producers. The often fast-paced tunes that feature a lot during this film do a great job of adding to the atmosphere, emphasising the intensity of the scenes. The soundtracks help to keep the movie moving, holding the viewers attention, allowing this standard comedy to entertain its audience for the entire duration of the film.

The Price / Availability

As I said in the introduction, this movie cost me £5, not long after it was released (****). Given the average price of decent, relatively new DVD in large supermarkets, £5 seemed pretty good to me. Not only was the movie fast, paced, enjoyable and certainly entertaining, it came with a pretty amusing special feature, showing some of the bloopers/ outtakes during the filming of the movie. I also feel this is a DVD suitable for watching numerous times, with family members as well as friends. £5 well spent in my opinion. I purchased Ride Along from a large Sainsbury’s supermarket, and I’m sure it is available in most other large supermarkets. It is also available on Amazon.co.uk for a fair price of **. I do believe this movie can be watched on the paid video streaming service provided by YouTube as well as some other sites.

My Opinion / Final Comments

Anyone that has ever seen Kevin Hart perfume, be it in a movie or on stage, will already know his persona. like in all his performances, he maintains this very entertaining persona throughout this movie. If you like him in anything else, you will certainly like him in this; and therefore enjoy the movie. Similarly, Ice Cube's character shares many similarities with his character in 21 and 22 Jump Street. These two, very comedic actors play their characters perfectly; it was almost as if the roles were written especially for them.

As you have probably already guessed, I enjoyed this movie. It is not an incredible film, or an incredible story, nor is it written and produced flawlessly. However, it is a light-hearted comedy, with occasional laugh-out-loud moments. It has a great paced and some great humour that entertained me for the full duration of the film. Ride Along is an easy-to-watch, Saturday night comedy that is certainly worth a fiver.
