...the blue packaging of a Rimmel mascara. It proudly proclaimed to be 100% waterproof, lash building and lengthening in attractive silver writing and was a great price at £4.50. There are a number of shades, such as blue, brown and black and I chose the latter. It is a full size tube at about 4.5 inches and has the standard screw top lid with wand. This wand is quite big (1 inch) and is tapered at the end.
I have used a number of mascaras ... ...less not more. This Rimmel mascara does apply well, and dries quickly. It darkens my fair eye lashes wonderfully and it does not clog them up. The smaller end of the wand is useful to get those delicate outer lashes and there are no lumps of mascara left on your lashes. However, I’m not too sure about making them look much thicker or longer. Reading a recent opinion by Cazz on mascara, she mentioned it enveloping her lashes in a tube, which sounds ... more
I mentioned in a recent opinion that my eyes were starting to look like pee holes in the snow first thing in the morning, so I decided something had to be done! This something, was to start wearing some eye makeup - just eye liner and mascara normally. I have very fine, short, fair eyelashes, which never look particularly long, even with expensive mascara, so I decided to go for a cheap one this time. I also go swimming quite often, so I decided to go for a waterproof one to save me looking like a panda during and after the swim.
Whilst browsing in Tescos one evening I was drawn to the blue packaging of a Rimmel mascara.
I have used a number of mascaras in the past and have found many of them just clog up your eyelashes rather than enhance them. This is shown in a current TV advert (sorry can’t remember which mascara it is for), where, with each brush stroke, more eyelashes clog together, thereby making it seem that you have less not more. Reading a recent opinion by Cazz on mascara, she mentioned it enveloping her lashes in a tube, which sounds wonderful, but I can’t say these quite do that.
Most importantly this mascara is not waterproof! I suffer from allergies, and the first time I realised this mascara’s shortcoming was when I had a sneezing fit which made my eyes water. I ended up with the dreaded panda eyes and had to go and scrape toilet paper under my eyes in the toilets at work – great! I then stupidly tried it in the swimming pool and the same happened. I am also very naughty at taking my eye makeup off at night, so by the morning it looks as if I have been given a black eye. When I have tried to take this mascara off, I use a cleansing sheet and it does come off quite easily, although I still end up with more under my eyes by the morning. It sort of goes all soft and gooey after a while, as if it is melting, which is when it starts spreading under your eye. I can’t imagine this mascara lasting well at all in sweaty clubs. Also, reading the other opinions about this mascara, we all agree that it is just not waterproof. Can we sue Rimmel under the Trades Descriptions Act?
The mascara also claims to be suitable for sensitive eyes, and I must say I have had no problems with sensitivity, even when the so-called waterproof mascara ran in my eyes in the swimming pool. It is also opthalmologically tested. I have been using it almost every day for a few months now and it is still going strong (although I’m not sure how you tell a mascara is running out until it actually happens). Also it does not dry out in between uses like some mascaras I have tried, so the packaging works well.
So would I buy it again? Well, definitely not for its waterproof qualities, but perhaps for its other qualities. It makes my eyelashes look much better than some other more expensive mascaras I have tried in the past by not clogging up my lashes or leaving unsightly blobs. It darkens them nicely, is easy to apply and a good price. Overall, I have had to rate it as poor as it does not do what it claims. I think I’ll just have to keep looking for a waterproof mascara that does what it says on the tube.

Advantages: Cheap, but that shows Disadvantages: It does not go on properly, is nowhere near waterproof, has consistency of tile grout
...is one of a few Rimmel mascaras they have "invented" to try to keep up with the rest of the make-up market. Well, they should leave mascara to the rest of the market for sure in my opinion!
The mascara is extremely off putting in every way. To apply, it is very difficult because the liquid-like solution in this case is rather thick, and too difficult to put on lashes and achieve a pleasing effect in any shape!
It even clumps to the brush and the ... ...irritant, but the only thing I would do with this one is bleach it white and use it for tile grout!
It's such a shame because Rimmel are getting better all the time with their other products, just not mascara.
Leave this one alone, PLEASE! ...

...irritation. But since i found Rimmel 100% waterproof mascara, i have worn it every day.
I had become increasingly sceptical of so-called waterproof mascaras, as neither me or any of my friends had ever found one that actually worked. But i thought i'd try it anyway, and was amazed at how well it worked!
The first day i wore it, i decided to test it by wearing it in the bath and, amazingly, it stayed on. Frankly, this shocked me, so i decided to ... ...medicated face wash, and again the results amazed me. Only the slightest smudge had appeared under my eyes, where all other "waterproof" mascaras had left me looking like a panda from just the smallest amount of rain.
The only slight problem i had was removing the mascara, which took a while as it just didn't want to budge.
The applicator brush is really soft, and so is gentle on lashes, whilst giving great coverage. It went on really easily and ...

Rimmel is known for its brightly-coloured packaging and this is no exception: the bright blue tube with its silver writing is bound to stand out from the crowd, and I'm sure it looks particularly good on the shelf next to Rimmel's newest offering, the bright purple tube of Sexy Curves mascara.

...this mascara is extremely waterproof! Rimmel must have changed the formula or something, but this mascara simply does not budge when you are crying!
You might think that this is a good thing, but I don't agree. Although this is waterproof, this mascara smudges and has a very dry consistency, which makes it difficult to apply. It is flakey and instead of having a rich glossy consistency, the colour of the mascara is dull and doesn't make your eyes ... ...to even make an impact on your eyes - but after several coats the mascara is just thick and gloopy. This mascara doesn't even come off with industrial strength eye make up remover. Instead, you end up with mascara clumped on your eyelashes and dark smudges under your eyes. Quite simply, you look horrendous. It also irritates my eyes because it won't come off. Surely that can't be hygienic - having a day old mascara around your eyes?!

It comes in a brightly coloured blue tube, with silver lettering on it, which is quite attractive and inviting. There is a choice of colours, the usual blue, black and brown and it only costs about £2.99, which is reasonably cheap for a mascara especially a well know brand like Rimmel.
To apply it can be quite annyoing, it didnt go on smoothly like other mascaras instead it felt rather odd and sticky. After i had applied it i wasnt impressed with ... ...i expected, they still looked about the same length and there wasnt much of curl in it, but my eyelashes were darkened.
The main reason i had chosen this mascara though was the fact that on the tube it promised me that it would be 100% waterproof. And as i am an active swimmer and live in Wales were it rains an amazing ammount i need a mascara that can offer me that protection. But unfortunatley it didnt live up to his name and on several occasions ...

This is without a doubt the very best mascara in the world.
I'm naturally very fair and blessed with long eyelashes, but have always found it hard to find a mascara that doesn't make them look like spiders legs. I used to use Rimmels100% WaterproofMascara, as I have hayfever in summer and my eyes water easily in winter (plus my then boyfriend regularly upset me :p) I ran out one day and had hardly any money and couldn't afford to buy any more, so I wandered past the Miss Sporty section in Boots (which I had always previously ignored, as its blatant aiming towards children and teenagers did not appeal to me at all) and I saw that they had this mascara for only £2.99, so I bought it thinking that even if it was rubbish it could do until I could afford Rimmels again as it was only £3.
I was impressed straight away and have never ...
