The foundation that I have recently been using was on it's last legs and about to run dry any day. I nipped to Sainsburys and looked along their range of foundations which all seemed to be a little on the pink side. Favouring a darker shade, I opted for this mousse.
It was an impulse purchase as I have never used a mousse foundation before. I have always seen them as little value for money as there does not seem to be much foundation in the container.
A friend of mine uses a mousse and the closest I have come to a mousse foundation before this purchase was dipping my finger in my friends foundation.
Packaging:
The container is made of clear glass and fairly heavy. On looking on the underside the glass does seem to be on the fairly thick side and the height of the container is fairly shallow.
The lid is black plastic and a nice thickness which makes taking the lid off very easy.
There is a white sticker on the base of the container which gives you the amount of foundation the container contains, how to contact Rimmel, the bar code and that this is a mousse make-up.
I was a bit miffed that no where on the container is there any information about how to apply the foundation. Even though it is common sense.
There is also no information to the ingredients this contains. I feel as if I'm missing a bit of paper somewhere or a box? What if someone was allergic to any ingredients?
The black plastic lid tells you that this is the 'Cool Matte 16hr' range and the colour - 303 true nude.
Inside the container is a little white lid like cover. Unsure what use this has - maybe it keeps the mousse fresh?? Totally unsure but it is fiddly to take out with long nails. I may just loose the lid in a week or so.
Smell:
The mousse smells lightly perfumed and slightly on the sweet side. Very nice all the same. It would have been nice if it smelt of chocolate as the mousse resembles chocolate mousse, but then I would eat it.
The Mousse:
Looks fantastic, just like chocolate mousse. If this smelt of chocolate I would try and eat it.
It has a fairly thick gloopy consistency and is lovely to dip your finger into, so I try and control myself and not put too much on my finger tip at a time. This I can see is going to be very addictive. Great texture.
Application:
I applied this to the T-zone. Then I started to rub the foundation in to my cheeks.
Amazingly this felt really cool and icy minty on my skin. So that's where the 'cool' part comes from. This felt lovely and cool and would have been fantastic on a summers evening to apply. Unfortunately we have not had much sun this year.
I enjoyed applying the cool mousse and probably applied more than I normally would have done.
Coverage:
This foundation dried within seconds and left my skin looking matte and I found the coverage very satisfactory.
I used a concealer on my 'freckles' and the foundation covered the concealer well.
There was no shine to my skin and the foundation did not seem to be slippery on my skin. Also I was not left with a 'tidemark' around my neck.
Wear and tear:
The container states that this is '16hr' which I presume means it will last for 16 hours and still look fantastic.
The first night I wore it, unfortunately I slept in it after a night at the pub. On the seconds day I examined the foundation at the end of the day. There were a couple of patches where the foundation took on a powdery appearance, but after a slight rub this faded and look ok again.
My opinion:
I absolutely loved the feeling of the coolness of the mousse on my skin. A fabulous feeling on a summers night.
The texture of the mousse was very addictive and I just wanted to dip my fingers in the mousse and rub it all over my face again and again.
Firstly I was not keen on purchasing this mousse and only brought it for the colour of the foundation, but I was suprised by how much I liked this mousse foundation. I think I would buy this again depending on how long a container lasts.
I have given this 4 stars as I think the glass on the container is a little thick and can mislead you into believing there is more in the container than there actually is. Also not enough information on the container (please read above about packaging).
Advantages: Reasonably priced foundation Disadvantages: Doesn't stay put for 16hours
Rimmel mousse
Always being a bit of a sucker for trying out new make ups, I bought this recently because I am going through a bit of a preference for mousse type foundations.
~~Promises, promises…~~
As with most beauty products, this makes certain promises, and obviously has some secret or revolutionary formula. For this make up, it's a revolutionary aquacool formula which promises to keep skin matte for up to 16 hours. Apparently, this make up ... ...comfortable for the whole day. No mean feat because it's supposed to be non transferable for 16 hours.
~~Product and Packaging~~
The mousse comes in a small glass tub with a black screw on/of lid. All details and information are either on the side of the tub or the lid top.
When I first open the tub, I see the mousse exactly as I like these type of products- untouched and brand new. The mousse has a very slightly perfumed smell but nothing too ...

Advantages: Spreads evenly, don't need alot, smells great, radiant finish. Disadvantages: Appears a bit too dark in the pot - hesitant tone choosing.
...Look. The advertisement for the Rimmel London Cool Matte Mousse Foundation claims to last for a whole 16 hours, is light and soft to the touch when applying, looks natural, feels cool and refreshing on your face when applying, and (surprise, surprise) contains some breakthrough technology to keep you looking radiant the entire time. Needless to say, I was intrigued. I suffer from a very disruptive sleeping pattern and the thought of a refreshing ... ...sounded fabulous! Means I can keep the cucumber slices in the fridge from now on, eh?
The following weekend I set out to Boots to test it, I've always had trouble with foundation tones because I have a very finicky skin tone to begin with. It's uneven and i'm quite pale (but I guess that's English skin for you). And on top of that, I'm only 16 so my skin is going crazy right about now with blemishes and combination skin types and whatever else. ...

...What is it?
========
Rimmel have created a new foundation that is of a mousse texture. The idea is not exactly a new one though. Maybelline has its Dream Matte Mousse Foundation which has been about for some time now and Avon has its own too. This foundation is aimed at people who want a matte appearance and to help them create a shine free look all day. It is probably not a good product for people who have dry skin because with its mattifying ... ...claims

Advantages: Good value for money, useful, comes in nice shades Disadvantages: May give blotchy marks on face
Rimmel Cool Matte 1Hr Mousse, I thought, was brilliant! It's in a nice simple glass pot and it's small so it's easy to carry round in a handbag on a night out. It costs between £3.50-£6.00 from any cosmetics stores such as Boots and Superdrug. When I first bought this foundation I was very impressed, I did have one problem though, it fell on the floor and smashed so if you have small children wondering around near a hard floor then this don't buy ... ...and carried on using it. It has an even coverage over my face if the right amount is applied and doesn't leave blotchy marks on the face. I applied the foundation with a soft sponge just so it would apply a little better. It does exactly what it says on the tub, the foundation stays on for 16 hours so it can be used all day without having to apply it again. I thought the value for it's money was excellent, it last for at least two monthes, you don't ...

...Superdrug and Boots. Rimmel also have a range of other products available in the same style, such as blusher and eyeshadow, although I don't think I'll try them after my bad experience with the foundation! The foundation comes in a handly little glass bottle / container which is light and easy to carry about. This is great if you have a small bag and need to touch up on a night out. There is a slight scent to the foundation but this isn't too strong, ... ...look! One bonus was it did give good coverage, although, it could look a bit "cakey" and thick.
I wouldn't let this review put you off trying the Rimmel Matte products as everyone's opinions are different when it comes to make up and what look they are going for. ...

Advantages: quick easy light and gives a natural look Disadvantages: no applicator
As soon as I picked this up it matched my skin tone it was great I bought a few things from Rimmel. I was so excited so I went home and tried it. So I went home washed my face put on lotion and applied the powder it went on effortlessly and smoothly made my pores look smaller, even out my skin tone and reduced shine. Best part it looked natural and you couldn't even really tell I was wearing make-up. Not even close up that's the best part. It gives me a natural even toned look. I'm only 17 and I don't want to have a too dramatic look. And I especially don't want that CAKED on LOOK. I highly recommend this especially for a quick fix ^^! (and it lasts me an extremely long time pretty much my whole day and it stands up to the humid atmosphere I live in and even the rain didn't wash it off)
