Ring Gate Latch

I have a back garden gate, which has been up for about 6 years now. This garden gate is six feet high but the last one was only five feet high. I had it changed as I was burgled and I ha a lovely new latch put on with a matching bolt at the same time. These gave me more security and as the gate is so high I have not been looked into by burglars so easily now and I think it is more of a deterrent for them. This is what my neighbour says, too.

The man came out and suggested I buy a good quality ring gate latch and I bought this directly from the ironmonger’s shop in the town. It cost me £9.99 just for the latch and that didn’t include the bolt, I had to buy that separately. I bought a heavy-duty steel latch and it came with all of the fittings I needed and I didn’t have to buy those separately. The man fitted it for me and I thought it looked lovely when it was new.

It still looks nice now but it has rusted just ever so slightly if you look closely. The latch is a good quality though and very hard wearing and it’s never rusted so much that I cannot open or close the latch very easily. Two of my cats are now too old to jump right over the six foot high gate to get to the front of my house so every day I have to open this latch to either let them into the back garden or out of the garden.

The latch is in black and it is 150mm and this was the standard size for me to buy and the one the man recommended to me. The fittings all worked well and the man soon had it nailed to my gate and it has been very reliable. I prefer this type of a latch as though it might look old fashioned I think it looks nice and it serves its purpose well.
