MP3 players have been around for a while now, they are certainly not the "new gadgets" anymore. However, for those of you not quite up to speed on modern technology, I'll give you a little idea of what it's all about.
MP3 files are a file format on the computer for audio and music. Normally audio files are stored as .WAV extensions, but these are large files, and not compressed. MP3 encoding is a way to shrink .WAV files (amongst others) to make the file size smaller, without compromising on the quality of the sound too much.
They range in quality from CD quality files (128kbps) to radio quality (64kbps). All of the MP3 players on the market play all qualities of MP3 files, and some even play other sorts of files as well.
This mp3 player was one of the first available on the market, and was definitely a hit with the public. On my first day at work, I saw them and thought this technology was a wonderful idea. I quickly surfed the net for ideas on the product, and decided that the Diamond Rio PMP 300 was the gadget for me.
This mp3 player comes with a 32 meg memory card, upgradable to 64 with a flash memory card, 3.3volt only. The playback is very good, and the software it comes with is both easy to use and quick. Although the transfer is not as quick as some of the USB systems, it is good enough for you to wait whilst is works.
It comes with an serial thru port, which plugs in so that you can also have all of your normal serial port peripherals such as printer and scanner connected.
Now, this may sound a little computer jargon heavy, but to be honest it is extremely simple to set up. It comes with a VERY accurate manual which features every piece of information you could ask for, and followed to the letter it should cause you no problems whatsoever.
Generally the size is also good, though it's heavier than some other similar products. The design is classy, featuring a solid black finish with grey around the display. It features a fairly large screen which is easy to see.
The features include an introduction which plays only the first ten seconds of the song, the usual sort, random and sequenced organisation for your songs, and also the display can be set to show amount of time remaining/card space remaining etc.

The best comparison technology wise would be mini disk, and this does indeed offer good competition for computer users who have a large MP3 collection.
