I first decided to go for the cheapest MP3 pleayer, which was (well 6 monst ago) the MP man, which looked much better than the Rio 300, sadly it didn't work with my computer (which is only two years old). It seems that quite a few mp3 players do not like the parallel port software used by the mp3 players, I spent a whole morning in PCworld with my laptop trying out all of the MP3 players before finding the rio, the only one in the shop that worked. So sadly I was forced to get this, but it really isn't as bad as people seem to say, I liked the thought of MP3s, the quick changing of songs, but the initial memory is really not enough, I had to get another 32MB card, which cost just as much as the player itself-so if you are thinking to expand, just go straingt for the large memory players-if you have the money handy. I liked the player, it's small but slightly naff in design. Its got nice easy controls and the rio manager software is dead easy to use, and the new upgrades on the internet are very funky. If you have an older computer you may not have much choice, but if you want a good MP3 plaer which is expandable should you be in need of an x-mas present. It doesn't eat up batteries like walkmans and runs on one AA battery. Its pretty drop proof (I tend to drop it all the time, it doesn't complain that much). Tip-get some better earphones and that improves the music quality no end. Well there are better players on the market and this wouldn't ever be my first pic, but for lower priced models this is fine and a great present for an MP3 novice, but if you know your computer well you can get better (and it will probably work!)
