Hello, I have been reading these reviews as I am considering this product. Firstly, there are 2 different products listed as the same here, the single hair, and the scaning wand. As an ex-laser therapist (SLP1000, 4yrs) I would never even think of treating a single hair root- this is a silly idea even for a professional. Also, as this product is "safe" for untrained consumers, it is a very very low wattage, compared with "real" lasers at 40W per pulse. The twisted and deformed hair described by one reviewer results from under-powered treatment which damages the follicle but doesn't kill it. Multiple consecutive pulses may improve the result, tho not advised by the manufacturer. With such a low power, on pale skin this may be safe.

Sorry, I'm new here and couldn't find how else to put comments or advice on usage in, or reply to individual comments, (-I'm not even sure if this will be available for others to see!) bcoz I think I can see where things have gone wrong for some people. I spent a huge amount of time working on patients fixing bad results from other laser therapists so I have seen ALOT of what can go wrong!
These machines have only just become available in Oz, and at a much higher price than UK (about GBP330!) so I'm devouring all the info I can find, as this is really a much bigger investment than for you. At GBP199, I'd barely hesitate! As a med science trained laser therapist, I can understand the underlying physics as well as the hair growth cycle. I'm currently waiting on the tech specs from Rio to help in my final decision. I'd gladly help anyone who has had a bad result try to work out why, because it seems pretty clear that some ppl are getting great results, and others not..so the problem must be in individual response, which can be maximised. Please feel free to contact me if you have had no success, I'd hate to think anyone has given up without knowing some tricks..
Thanks for the welcome too,
Laser-chick xxx

Although a bit off-topic because you're not reviewing the actual product, the advice regarding the lack of effectiveness of underpowered laser products and the potential for damage to hair follicles resulting in deformed hairs, is very interesting and helpful. If you add more to your review so that it also describes the actual products, you'll get better ratings. : )
