The story is as much a promotion of US attitudes to Japanese dominance as a tale of murder. The backdrop is high-tech oriental industry in which murder is committed under extenuating circumstances. Detective Peter Smith must solve the murder as quickly and quietly as possible. Once again this book is better than the film.
