... Road Angel is different. Rather than searching for archaic signals that are likely to produce false alerts than positive results, this device uses Satellite Navigation to identify your location and compare it to a built-in database of known camera and speed trap locations. Fighting Back Against The Cameras

Advantages: Simple Installation & Use, License Saver
Disadvantages: Ongoing Cost, Ugly on Dashboard

...at the side of the road and takes a photograph of your car from the rear. This camera uses a radar signal bounced off the rear of a travelling vehicle to determine speed and takes two photographs of the moving vehicle; on the road, white lines are painted and are used to ensure the calibration of the camera is correct. The ensuing photograph shows the rear of the car and its number plate, the date and time of the offence and the speed of the travelling ...
...at the side of the road but facing towards the car this time. It doesn't use radar to track the vehicle, but two 'pads' secreted beneath the surface of the tarmac, with the offending vehicle's speed timed between the two over a very short distance and the photograph being taken a few feet further along (look out for several narrow white lines painted across the road just in front of the camera for your opportunity to smile politely). Rapidly growing ... more

Be An Angel with the Road Angel

Advantages: Great GPS function
Disadvantages: Subscription and no Radar sensor

...However, with the Road Angel it is worth it. Basically the way the unit works - it knows where you are and it knows where the cameras are (via GPS). This means that as soon as your going towards a camera it will alert you - the screen flashes bright red and you also get a beep to warn you it's been triggered. You can adjust the amount of warning you get. As you get closer to the point in question it will start to flash faster and you will get more ...
...is a camera up the road because they will slow down, and that reduces the overall average speed. Well the unit sounds great doesn't it? Oh but i'm not finished did i mention it can give you full satellite navigation too? NO? Silly me, get this. You already have a laptop pc and want Sat Nav but don't want to spend £400 on a camera detector plus another £700 on a GPS for the car too? Well now you don't need to. The back of the unit has a serial ...

Road Angel - life and license protection

Advantages: Good looking, accurate and reliable
Disadvantages: Limited laser gun detection, vibration of unit on dash

WHAT IS ROAD ANGEL? Road Angel uses GPS technology to map the precise location of your vehicle, and using a database of all of the major varieties of fixed speed camera and blackspots, can warn you when you are approaching a camera or blackspot. GPS also means that if you break down, you can use the unit to determine your precise longitude and latitude which can be given to your breakdown assistance company to help them find you quicker. Plenty ...
...may drive off, when the Road Angel will tell you your speed, direction of travel and the time. The unit is easy to use, having only three buttons, and is easy to mount and remove from the vehicle. Road Angel recommend that the bracket is removed as well as the unit to avoid break-ins by people hoping to find the unit. As this gives a bit too much to carry round, I tend to leave the bracket out of view in the glove box and just take the unit with ...

Great device if you can afford it

Advantages: Works well, gets you out of speeding tickets
Disadvantages: Looks geeky, expensive

...conclusion that I should give Road Angel a shot. With the new laser detector it remains the best (and most expensive) solution for camera detection. Some people may argue that it’s cheating to be using one of these bad boys. I think it’s just a better way to tell you to slow down. You don’t always notice the camera sign and getting booked for going 5 miles over the limit is annoying and, in my opinion, quite harsh. If you are used to zipping around ...
...that since I had the Road Angel installed I’ve been driving more carefully. This device works via a GPS satellite which informs the Road Angel of upcoming speed cameras by tracking the movement of your car. It all sounds very Enemy of the State, but it works like a charm. All the cameras have to be registered in a database, and by accessing that database (which is not illegal) Road Angel knows where all the cameras and and what speed you should be ...

Road Angel - a blessing in disguise

Advantages: Speed trap and black spot alerts
Disadvantages: cost and subscription

...in mind I purchased the Road Angel because of the amount of driving I have to do on motorways and unfamiliar roads. The moment you fix the device to your dash board and plug it into the cigarette lighter the GPS is immediately activated and can not only pinpoint your exact position but it can also tell you exactly what your spped is on the illuminated display - what will astound you is how inaccurate your speedo can be!! The Road Angel can detect ...
...otherwise may be. The Road Angel can be constantly updated for new speed cameras merely by plugging it into your pc and downloading any updates from the appropriate web page so you will always have the latest information available to you. The unit is rather costly - currently £250-£300 for the older model and £400 for the newly released model but I feel that for basic road use the older model is more than adequate. With your purchase you are given ...

Road Pilot Micro with Laser

Advantages: Detachable Laser and external gps antennae
Disadvantages: Lots of wires

I just thought I would bring this device to your attention. RoadPilot comes from the company which pioneered GPS accident blackspot detection. For £399.95 you get a small, descreet device (not much bigger than a box of matches) which you can mount on your dashboard. I understand they also produce a larger touch screen version for £100 more. I have to say having used it now for 6 months I am convinced it has made me a less eratic driver. It makes ...
...once you get into the proximity of a speed camera (the proximity is user defined and adjustable) it warns you of the distance the device is from you together with what speed you are doing and very importantly what the local speed limit is in that area. Of course people are going to say don't speed in the first place but we all drift over the limit at times and I found that rather than have to worry about this and then be distracted from driving ...
