Excellent Learner bike and Commuter (Honda CG125)
Advantages: Stunning fuel consumption, Easy to ride, Forgiving Disadvantages: No power, doesn't handle brilliantly, not 'cool'
I learnt to ride on this bike a couple of years ago and have commuted on it everyday since then come rain or shine (except a couple where there was eight inches of snow and ice). During that time it has served me well and has consistently run at about 100mpg. There are drawbacks though. There is very little power produced and I found myself falling to about 40 mph quite frequently for hills. There is also no scope for overtaking even if the person ... ...too long to accelerate. There have been a couple of times during very heavy rain where the engine has cut out and been unstartable until it had dried out but this is probably due to my bike being old (17years) rather than the design. The handling of the bike is probably as expected from an old 125cc commuter bike but it is not impressive. I lowered the forks by 7-8mm and that has helped a bit but short of new engine, frame and brakes, not much is ...

Honda CB 600 F6 hornet
Advantages: handling, riding position, fun to drive, reliability, good look, nice sound, very universal Disadvantages: small fuel tank , can be thirsty, seat not for long runs
I have bought my CB 600 F6 Hornet brand new in 2006 . Since then only indicator lens cracked without any reason ,but it was replaced within warranty. I have done just a bit over 10000 miles on it and it still drives like brand new. If You are looking for universal bike i think hornet is just the bike.I use it mostly in the city where it shows it's potential all the time. It's responsive but easy to control, brakes are good ,handling is a dream, driving ... ...for trips longer than two hours.Personally i recommend new custom one if You've got longer distances in mind. Oh and i have fitted my hornet with a givi windscreen which i think is must have - it looks good and and makes faster rides much more comfortable. Fuel economy is not the best but it's not too bad,all depends on riding style. ...

Why is the CBR600 the best selling bike ever?
Advantages: Comfort, Reliability, Durability Disadvantages: Gearbox, Camchain tensioners
...second hand 2 year old Honda CBR600F with 6k on the clock. It's the 2002 fuel injected version. My first bike was a Suzuki SV650S which I got after passing my Direct Access in 2002. The Honda was something of a step up from the SV, which was starting to limit my learning on account of its budget suspension. I fancied something a little bit sharper to challenge me a bit more. I looked around at the sports 600s and even considered a 900 for a while ... ...a Kawasaki ZX6r and the Honda CBR600F. The reliability issues with carb icing on the Kwak led me to buy the Honda. £4300 later I was the proud owner of a brand-ish new CBR600F in navy blue /silver.
Engine
I had expected the 600cc four to smoke the pants off my old SV, as it turned out, the healthy mid range that the twin had was gone, replaced by a fairly strong midrange, but with a screaming top end accompanied by a rather addictive airbox snarl ...
