Few people know that before writting children's book,Roald Dahl wrote short stories, the very same used afterwards in the tv show Tales of the Unexpected . The good thing with short stories is that it does not take long to read them,so this book is the perfect companion for a travel by train or plane for example. Ande these ones are all clever and funny, and scary too, thanks to this twist you never see coming. Very well written (as usual,we all know Roald Dahl's talent ),none of them is predictable, and even though I keep reading them again and again,I cannot help but still being anxious every time and wondering what is going to happen to this old man who knew this wonderfully talented painter in his young days,or what happened to Mary Malloney's husband ?
This book includes 11 short stories,Skin of course, but also Lamb to the slaughter, The sound machine, An african story, Galloping Foxley, The wish, The surgeon, Dip in the pool, The champion of the world (which is the first version of the children's book " Danny,The champion of the world"), Beware of the dog and finally My lady love,my dove.
