Advantages: A surprisingly shocking poem which really stands out if u understand the whole meaning of Browning's words. Disadvantages: Probably not the best of poems to read if the 19th Century literature and style doesn't appeal to you
...RobertBrowning had a unique style when writing his poems. This is why I think this poem especially, is a work of genius.
The thing that struck me about this poem, I have to admit when studying it, was the way it told the story of a shocking possesive relationship. In the pre-1900's, this theme of love probably wouldn't have been such a big thing in the society of that time. But today, I feel it is a much greater issue.
I am not a great poetry lover, but this is what astounded me about RobertBrowning especially as he is a poet from the 19th Century.
Browning write the poem in a very different way, setting the mood almost immediatly. Through the poem, he tells the story of a Lady, quite rich in her class. coming to a cottage to meet her lover. He sets the atmosphere right from the beginning as being a cold, winter night...

Advantages: Imaginative genius in a compelling and ingenius series Disadvantages: He's only written 4 out of (possibly) 7.
...The Dark Tower series was started by Stephen King some twenty years ago, with the first book, The Gunslinger published in 1982. The most recent addition to the series, The Wizard and the Glass, which personally I think is one of the finest SK books ever written. Together the series is more epic than even The Stand and show a fine writer at his most creative, compelling and entertaining.
The story is based on a poem by RobertBrowning entitled 'Childe Roland from the Dark Tower came', and it is Roland, the gunslinger, whom is the main character in this series. An incredibly simplified description of the plot is that Roland and subsequently his companions that he picks up on the way, are to follow some force called the Beam to the Dark Tower.
It would spoil one and/or more of the books to go into any more detail and I can't even begin...

Advantages: Action and excellent plot - the pages fly by Disadvantages: Some bits are a little hard to believe
...This is the second book I read from Dan Brown. I started with the incredible Da Vinci Code, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and did not find that much of an inconvenience reading Angel and Demons afterwards.
Angel and Demons was my holiday book... and I read it in four days. I literally lived on it, forgetting about food and water !
This first book featuring Robert Langdon sets the target really high, with action, suspense, an extremely carefully studied and detailed plot, altogether with Brown mixing fiction and reality so cleverly. Dan Brown's writing is very light, making the story even more enjoyable... there are hardly any long or boring bits, and the action is very fast-paced.
I found myself liking Robert Langdon more and more, to the point where I would blackmail Dan Brown into doing another Robert Langdon book if I could !!
I...
