Robert Fleming premier banking have to be described as the best business bank account provider in the UK. The service they continually manage to deliver is always second to none. The accounts give a very good rate of interest and allow 20 free statement transaction entries per month. Whilst being phone and post operated this is no barrier, the staff are available on the end of a freephone number from 7am to 11pm everyday and are always very friendly, courteous and above all very knowledge and helpful. The account also comes with an automated service on another Freephone number allowing customers to find out balances, the last transactions on the account and to order stationary. Once again Flemings are brilliant, there is no point going elsewhere.
Advantages: Cheapest card for transactions abroad Disadvantages: Some banks have better interest rate
My husband and I originally set up a High Interest Bank Account (HIBA)with RobertFleming, over 20 years ago, mainly because it did all the things one normally expects of current accounts with a higher than average interest rate.
Over the years it has gone through various changes and is no longer particularly competitive on interest rate - we move surplus (if any!) to a different account.
Also, it has only one branch! All transactions, deposits, bill paying, direct debit etc can be arranged by post (free envelopes provided) or phone (free). More recently they have introduced internet access, though I have not actually used this yet. (Hence have put 'not applicable' in criteria below.)
What amazes me (I have and have had other bank accounts) is the efficiency, courtesy and knowledge of the call centre staff. It just doesn ...
Advantages: Free Banking, Interest on account, Free phone contact Disadvantages: No internet banking yet
If you are a small bisiness or someone just about to start a business then you should give some serious thought to Fleming Premier Banking as a fiest choise for your company bank account.
I have been with them for over a year now and have nothing but praise for their level of service, and as they have recently been taken over by Chase Manhattan Corporation, one of the largest finacial institutions in the world, I think we will see even more improvements to their already excellent service.
They offer an investment account for business customers which pays interest at a very competitive rate, you are issued with a cheque book for this account and you get free banking of upto 20 tranactions per month. This is ideal for a new start up or a small existing business.
You can bank by telephone or post and they even offer a free phone ...
Advantages: Polite, generally moderately knowledgeable staff Disadvantages: No longer able to answer the phone quickly.
I have banked with Cater Allen for many decades, since they were the retail banking arm of RobertFleming & Co (RIP).
Having passed through various corporate hands they ended up with Abbey, which in turn is part of the Santander Group.
The whole operation was always faintly amateurish, with serious incompetence demonstrated when anything complicated was requested (for example transferring funds to an overseas account), but the call centre operatives were friendly and polite, always addressed me as 'Mr Hemingway' and gave both their name and surname.
The one aspect of their operation that was good was the fact that the calls to the bank are answered by a human who can actually help. Being passed around the centre was very rare, and this alone kept me a loyal customer. The other great thing about the bank was that phone calls ...

Good rates, good service, good branches: all the benifits of a building society without the disruption of carpetbaggers!
It's not officially a building society, and like all plcs, has a duty to make profits for it's shareholders. It does a good job of hinding this fact t (*)
